...did the stadium just play an ad during Monticello's show..? Sadly I’ve seen this happen before. Really frustrating..

I don't see any other group taking the gold from Blue Springs. We've yet to see Bentonville, Westwood, and Rosemount among other groups but the demand and the execution of that (at least in my opinion) was on a different level than what we've seen today. Here's to hoping Westwood and Rosemount really bring it tonight to challenge that performance

I think Blue Springs probably deserves to win. I could still see them losing music, but honestly I thought the music performance was better than expected except for a few moments that could probably be easily fixed. Not my fav show by any means from them (it kind of feels like a Blue Knights show tbh in a weird way) but there is variety and lots of intrigue as per usual.

Has Blue Springs gotten smaller over the last couple of years? They still sound amazing as ever, but seem smaller.

O’Fallon and Blue Springs just performed some really incredible shows. I can wait to see what Westwood, Rosemount, and Bentonville have in store for us!

Has Blue Springs gotten smaller over the last couple of years? They still sound amazing as ever, but seem smaller. I thought the same thing but this is the size they've been since probably 2019 ish. I would assume everyone's senior class is small this year since it was those freshman who started in F. 2020. But I was counting winds because I was curious and they had healthy section numbers IMO. I think the drill is very condensed at times too - could hurt them later but it's Blue Springs so probably not

Has Blue Springs gotten smaller over the last couple of years? They still sound amazing as ever, but seem smaller. They’ve never been particularly huge. With all of the props and tarps, I’m not surprised to see a smaller ensemble. Will O’Fallon be the largest band here again, or is there another?

O’Fallon is pretty large, I heard some people say it’s around 280 kids

On a serious note, I'm super into the direction Blue Springs has taken the past two years. There's an aura of mystery or surrealism I get while watching their shows, mostly because they seem to completely break conventions with regards to pacing and content. I completely get what marimba11 is saying about getting a Blue Knights vibe in that sense. There's also something about this style that feels like it's pulling so much from the winterguard world, not just because of the movement quality. Blue Springs 2022 was absolute perfection in my opinion. It's everything I could hope for in a marching band show: elegant, powerful, unconventional, and daring. It stands right alongside Broken Arrow 2006 for me. I'm not sure if 2023 will get there for me, but I know even after one viewing they're producing something special that I'm sure to play on repeat.

This is definitely a different vibe than last year, but I could see myself growing to like this one. Last year, it took me a few runs to really start vibing with the show, and once I did, I VIBED. Hoping for the same this year.

Blue Springs kind of give me "Marching band equivalent of the Blue Devils" vibes. The show themes aren't necessarily all that accessible, but it's executed at an EXTREMELY high level

I love when bands mix up the pacing and where they put ballad ect. I totally agree on the winterguard aspect of Blue Springs, it all flows so well too, the members/ guard are always selling the show like their lives depend on it. So, few bands achieve that level of emotional connection as Blue Springs can do, especially in the past 5 years or so. I don't know how they do it! I think my fav Blue Springs show was 2018, not because of the music but because of the visual program - that truly was something to behold. I loved 2022 too and was so happy someone finally did Engulfed Cathedral, feel like I haven't heard that in a while. Musically that show was such a treat.

Has Blue Springs gotten smaller over the last couple of years? They still sound amazing as ever, but seem smaller. I think it’s a combination of things. Blue springs develops more newer homes on the South side of town. In addition to this, I think blue springs has reached a spot where they’ve realized more doesn’t mean better. They might be more picky in their process of picking students to March.

O'Fallon is only band at St. Louis that was also at Indy last weekend. They placed 5th in Finals at Indy, behind Carmel, Avon, Mason, Brownsburg, and Fishers. Competition in St. Louis isn't nearly as strong as Indy, so looking for O'Fallon to be at/near the top. I'm only 4 years into marching band competitions, so not like I'm some real judge! Slight correction, but Windsor and Grain Valley were also out in Indianapolis last week! 😊 After talking with ilikeguard about Grain Valley's circumstances in particular, don't count them out of the finals discussion quite yet! Given all she told me, the fact they placed in the top 25 in such a stacked field this past weekend is nothing to scoff at. She can give more info on that if she so wishes 😊

They don’t have tryouts and everyone is allowed to march in competition which I feel truly embodies the “music for all” mentality. The fact that they’re this good truly says something about their director and work ethic

The fact that they’re this good truly says something about their director and work ethic I'm sure that it's the case for many more programs, but I was thinking the same regarding all of the top 3A placing bands in Indy last week (Castle, Lincoln, Southmoore)
