Crazy as it is, I made this Thread yet haven’t even replied to it myself! Here’s my top 15 most enjoyable shows. Lots of bias and ofc I haven’t seen everyone so I’m sure there’s many more!
1. Fishers - if you don’t know me, I want to marry fishers show this year. Someone hang the mistletoe! 2. Hebron - Enough said. I love the big brass, triumphant music, and firework moments! Never fails to amaze me 3. Avon - I mean…you won Nats after 13 years. Period. 4. Pearland - watched this show since the start of the season. So well done!!! Love everything about this one. 5. American Fork - BAM! Just killed it this season with everything. See you in 2024 Nats finals! 6. William Mason - Wes Cartwright has me going feral over this show. It’s just beautiful, and the music is perfect. And that one moment in the ballad… ifkyk 😍 7. Lawrence Township - this show has my heart! Just a really beautiful show. If you haven’t seen it, you’ve GOT to check it out! 8. Brownsburg - a lot of people had mixed feelings over this show, but I quite liked it! Good use of color and field staging. 9. The Woodlands - first off, your guard was out of this world. Second off, this is a catchy show! The amount of times I’ve had it stuck in my head… you have no idea!! 10. CTJ - Did someone order a flamingo party in Lucas Oil?!?! Show deserved so much more love. 11. Rouse - at first, I really didn’t get the hype of this show. Giving it some time, however, and this is possibly my favorite dark show of the year. I want more of this!!! 12. Tarpon! - Hiiiii! You guys are my idols. Tarpon pulling a Tarpon! 13. Beavercreek - one of my favorite Ohio bands taking a stand! Love this show from the start to the end. If you haven’t seen this show, you better Yabba Dabba Doo so! 14. Choctaw - I’d BEE going crazy if this wasn’t on the list! 15. Bixby - Plain fun! Very over the top, and I mean VERY over the top!! Lots of cool stuff visually.
There were so many bands I loved this year, but those are the ones that came to mind first! So many bands could make the honorable mention list, so I’m just gonna say that Flower Mound is my honorable mention. Their shows are always awesome, even if this year was a bit more traditional. Always good stuff coming out of their program! And of course, EVERYONE had an amazing show this season! Seriously, across the board this was one of the strongest seasons to date.

Dartmouth's show I thought was really well written. Carmel definitely had everything going for them, but the Jeremiah is maybe almost too high-brow... but the kids did great with it obviously. Dartmouth rode on the shoulders of one really good spinner plus a completely different take on "PaaEx" than Avon did. I agree in that I liked their concept but I thought they overblew their horns. As to Carmel, I will probably catch heck, but I thought they were very precise in both drill and music with a lot of degree of difficulty in both.....and I was bored to tears. I didn't see a whole lot of difference in concept and theme from say, Fayetteville. And their show was titled "Prophecy" but their one and only prop element recreated Moses parting the Red Sea, I think, which is considered miraculous, not prophetic. The rest of it seemed to be a lot of impressive and precise marching to and from with interesting and rather difficult music, but they could have named the show "Frog," or "Cream Cheese," or "Joe Schmo," and it would have been the same to me. I do understand why the judges placed them second, but in the national championship of me...meh. I had similar feelings about Brownsburg. Personally, I like shows that have a tangible theme or story. Bentonville, Avon, Dartmouth, and Lake Hamilton all had that and Woodlands at least looked like they were having fun and telling some sort of story, though I don't have much idea what it was. Avon, especially, worked on two levels-- a very minimalist and brilliant retelling of the classic Pictures, but also with the outfits and mass gymnastics they evoked the opening ceremony of the 1980 Olympics in Moscow, which were referred to at the time as Brezhnev's Pictures at an Exhibition-- showpieces that tried but failed to put good PR on the Soviet system. It might have been sheer coincidence on the part of their show design, but when you know the history, the show just made a lot of sense to me. Really, to me it was ballet with horns and a drumline. This is a great post! (Forgive me, I can’t sleep so I’m reading old threads). This is also another reason I wish BOA would put out a special program that spectators could hold or access digitally that would give all of the background and meaning behind shows like these! I would personally enjoy them even more if I had more information about the shows in general.

Music For All did this before for every year (more like reviews but does give some context behind the show), but only for Finalist. They were great to read, but they stopped I believe after 2016, and since they updated their website it's probably lost. For Example: web.archive.org/web/20131227142904/http://www.musicforall.org/what-we-do/boa-marching-championships/grand-national-championships/2012-gn-championships-in-review

Michael Boo did those for years. He passed away in 2020, I believe. It would be great to find an archive of them all!

St. George is just a regional, not a super regional (though many people, including myself would like for it to one day be a super regional 😉)

This is my list for indiana only! You could judge shows 4930 different ways- but in doing it based on a mix of how good the show actually was and how entertaining they were. (good ≠ entertaining)
1) carmel - don’t hate me, it’s just amazing it every way. there was not a second i was bored and for me that is rare with carmel. i was not a huge fan in 22 and 21 but this year they had me 2) westfield - stumbling their way into state finals they gave it their all but you could sure tell they were nervous. regardless they did amazing and i loved the show personally- very pretty uniforms. 3) fishers - as a hamilton southeastern alum i grew up hating fishers in everything but good god you cannot discount their band for a second. i’m not even the biggest christmas person either, but they made me jolly. 4) HSE - this is 100% bias and i would not blame anyone having them out of their even top 20 for indiana. the growth they have had since i’ve left is insane and im so proud of them. rooting for them to jump into state in the next few years! 5) carroll - unfortunately lucas oil was not kind to them, but i loved it. the show was just almost there and i see the potential in their program. carroll is knocking on the door of being in the fishers/bburg/homestead/castle clump 6) brownsburg - this is easily my favorite brownsburg show, my gripe with them is i feel they play it a little too safe with what they can do visually outside of props. 7) Evansville North - i don’t care what anyone says they would be in the state bubble for class A 🤷♂️. absolutely loved it 8) Avon - i know, lower than you expected. the visual was outstanding, the music book just was not for me. huge congratulations on winning it all tho, long time coming 9) Castle - I’ve never been a huge fan of tarps but besides that- wow. powerful show! music is great, castle just has noticeably more visual dirt imo. during the ballad where everyone is kinda drifting to the side 2 end zone just never clicked for me and left me a little confused 10) Noblesville - I loved noblesville so much! the gold on the uniforms looks soooo good. they deserved state 100% and i hope to see them in 2024! hm) jimtown - how can you not like the marching jimmies, what they do at their size is inspiring.

Definitely a different approach to ranking them, but very well said. Ignoring the top programs in the state, Indiana has some hidden gems that are often overlooked… I’m glad that didn’t happen here!
