Owasso’s guard burnt their feet on the turf in prelims and doctors told them they couldn’t perform tonight due to the severity of the burns. Is this real life? Were they not wearing any footwear? Who in the world would let kids perform barefoot for an outdoor activity? Especially in that heat. Smh.

Who in the world would let kids perform barefoot for an outdoor activity? This isn't totally uncommon with high school colorguards in BOA. Two other guards that I believe don't use Dance Shoes are Rosemount H.S., MN and Broken Arrow H.S., OK (with the exception of last year).

It’s fairly common around here. Owasso has done it for years and their turf never burns them. I talked to a director who said the turf at Pennington was different and much hotter than anything they’ve been on in the sun. Who knows, but yeah, he suggested BOA make a rule requiring footwear for outdoor venues like DCI so there’s not a question. Doesn’t remove blame, but would be a good suggestion.

If nothing else, I'd bet the Owasso program will never let their guard go barefoot again.

Adding a rule about it seems like a cop-out. Truth of the matter is the kids were put in a situation where their health and safety were unnecessarily at risk. That is not, should not, and will not be okay.

No one knew or expected anything of the sort, and it's not like this band is new the hot weather and outdoor turf world. Adding the rule would be the responsible thing to do after learning this lesson. I'm sure further action will be taken by the school board.

WOW. I'm sad FloMo isn't going to GN. Hebron will do great.

Flower Mounds Visuals vs. Hebrons Musicality. I can't decide who wins this, both incredible bands. I'm glad Hebron's going to Grand Nats.

Both were really solid, but I had Hebron with the edge in Music and Music GE. Solid finals competition all around, but I can't help but wonder how these bands (and Reagan, TWHS, etc.) stack up against last week's competing groups. If I were a betting man, I'd say Vandegrift is still leading the pack with Reagan and Leander up at the top. I feel like Hebron has the most runway at this point.

IMO, the groups heading to GN are: 1. Hebron - should medal 2. Vandegrift - could medal 3. Leander - could medal 4. CT Johnson - comfortably in 5. The Woodlands - in, but not comfortably 6. Round Rock - slim chance, but can't fully count out That's projecting to that Saturday in November

Leander, Reagan and Vandegrift all go against each other on BOA sheets (but different weighting) next week at the Texas Marching Classic!

I think that the results are pretty shocking. I was absolutely blown away by Hebron and can’t fathom that huge FloMo lead. The ONLY explanation is that FloMo had a complete show...did it give them that much of an advantage??? I’m genuinely curious.
I guess it bodes well for Marcus and Keller (and even Bell) for being much closer to Hebron than I though they would be.
I know not to compare scores between years but...Hebron scored two full point higher in prelims last year than finals this year. Even with their crazy technical difficulties last year.
Houston and DFW scores can’t be compared at ALL this year that is for sure.

This is the 7th regional win for Flower Mound. All of these wins occurred in the last five years.

For those curious, Owasso finished 8th in prelims ahead of Timber Creek & Keller Central. Had Owasso been able to perform in finals, Waxahachie would've been out.
After Owasso pulled out, this was the cutoff for finals.
10. Keller Central H.S., TX 77.500 (Keller Central would've finished ahead of Owasso and Timber Creek if not for a 1 point penalty) 11. Waxahachie H.S., TX 76.850 -------------------------------- 12. Carroll Senior H.S., TX 76.725 13. Prosper H.S., TX 75.650

I love flower mound but I don’t see them having quite the lead they had over the field in 2016. I still think Hebron can make a lot of waves going forward.
