As I understand, word around the Carolinas is that the speculative date for this contest is October 12th.

As I understand, word around the Carolinas is that the speculative date for this contest is October 12th. It almost has to inorder for anyone but the 5A bands to participate. Last year there were quite a few shows that conflicted with this: Irmo, Blythewood, and of course WCU Tournament of champions. Hopefully this year there are fewer conflicts.

I saw a question over the reasoning for lower enrollment cap for Conway, so I'll answer in this relevant thread specifically.
There are no major parking lots inside the university. The most major one to hold the buses is about a half-mile away from the stadium. This was actually a major concern that designated semi drop-off and pick-up lots/times were created specifically for this regional. Spectator parking was further up the road to the north, to the point where a shuttle was necessary for getting to the stadium.
As far as I'm aware, the venue COULD possibly hold more, but most of the 2023 bands were on the smaller side (therefore fewer transportation resources were required) so my perspective of the event is a bit skewed. The logistics was also very, very different from many of the events I've been too, so I wouldn't be surprised if part of the enrollment cap reasoning is to let the event run over the years a bit more to allow newcomers and local bands to get used to the logisitics more.
I will say, though, that all the wonkiness did not disrupt the regional experience at all. This is a SPECIAL venue to be in! I recommend all band directors looking into this once the date is confirmed.

Byrnes is a strong likely to return to Conway this season. Director Moss sent out a tentative fall schedule to parents this week stating that they are basically waiting on the dates for Conway and Orlando to be confirmed before officially scheduling the date. I would personally love to return to Johnson City as well as Conway, but will have to wait for the dates to be settled.

Not wanting to over-speak for the TR band director, but I think TR is unlikely to attend Conway this year. We loved it last year but it's quite the drive for us being a smaller band. I think we're possibly looking at Johnson City but with the SCBDA/SCMEA changing things up this coming year, I'm not sure what competitions we'll be attending yet.

I'm not sure of all the changes, only some of them, so I'd rather not risk spreading misinformation. I do know there is a class addition and they're changing how upper/lower/state are done. SCBDA/SCMEA should be publicly posting the changes before too long.

Reclassification is the biggest thing I know of so far... I also think Stratford isn’t going to because of how much the cost for the event and the drive.

Reclassification is the biggest thing I know of so far... Interesting. Not really sure they need another class, but I guess texas did it maybe 10 years ago. What would be nice is if they did all classes like 5A where it just all happened on one day, maybe adding a class makes this work I don’t know. It would be nice to free up say the 2nd to last weekend for all those 1a-4A bands that are normally saddled by upper/ lower state

At least that's what I've been told

Almost certainly should be confirmed for 10/12 now. CCU plays away at James Madison on 10/10 and is home the 19th. They're off the 26th though so outside shot for that date but I would say the 12th is pretty certain.

I am not sure if BOA is paying attention to that at all when picking this regional, but that is usually the best date to not exclude anyone from scbda events afterwards.

Why was it moved from Wake Forest University? If the parking is so bad, why not look to other universities? Carolina, Wake and State have games on that date, but Duke and UNC-Charlotte don't. UNC Charlotte would be a great venue. My daughter marches for Green Level and her only complaint were the parking situation. She did mention the heat, but she was sick during Conway.

I'd love for this regional to be held somewhere more central in the Carolinas: Charlotte, Columbia, Furman, Greensboro or Winston-Salem would be fairly central for anyone in both Carolinas. I'm sure BOA has asked the major colleges around but who knows.

This has been discussed at infinite for many many years now in regards to the Carolina’s on these forums. UNC Charlotte would be awesome, but the parking/ bus logistics looks bad. BOA obviously way too expensive, and wake forest has a lot of scheduling conflicts yearly. SC state or USC usually has conflicts… honestly this is probably top 3 of the best options in the Carolina’s.

However, it's even more remote than Conway with respect to many of the bands that will participate in a Carolinas event.

Hello Carolina Panther Stadium. Would never happen, but wishful thinking. I can't imagine Panther Stadium would want a ridiculous ammount to host, probably less than the $40,000 Furman wants for a day's rent 🙄

The Panthers never allow anything other than professional/international soccer and big college football games. Not even the high school football state championships are there. Those gets played at the ACC schools.

Hello Carolina Panther Stadium. One word makes this a no-go, even if the team would allow it AND it wasn't cost prohibitive. GRASS
