I do a lot with plants here. I live in the same county as Tarpon Springs right on the edge of where it does not freeze often. I have a batchelor of science degree in horticulture (wish i had stayed with music) and a collection of close to 1000 orchids and some other strange stuff. Music and plants are my two passions so if anyone has a plant question feel free to pm me. That’s awesome. My husband loves plants too and his brother has a doctorate in Forestry. They are also crazy about music (and old stereo equipment). Those things must go hand in hand. I just kill plants. I love them but they don’t love me.

I surely wasn't a part of the MFA forums for long, only lurking for the better part of two years, but I am, as I'm sure may others are, so glad that we still have a way to discuss and appreciate the marching arts. Thank you Jeremiah!

I don't agree. Something that is not in line with the Mission and Vision of Music for All should not continue to be hosted by them. If people would like to continue a forum this is honestly the best way. I did always find it odd that MFA hosted their own forums, because it is a lot of opinions which tend to not always speak with glowing praise for every single band. All of MFA’s other means of communication are strictly positive only. While I definitely think a more comprehensive look at shows, programs, competitions, and groups is really important, I also understand that’s not how MFA has established their role in the community. The forums are really a hold over from before Marching Bands of America became Bands of America and then merged into Music for All. MBA was a very different environment, opting to strictly enforce penalties instead of graciously waving or lowering penalties and offering advice on how to fully comply with the rules in finals or the next event appearance. What can be viewed objectively in the change of penalty enforcement overtime seems to reflect a shift in approach as the organization grew and merged into MFA that seeks to be more accommodating and truly “create, provide, and expand positively live-changing experiences through music for all”. Of course the events continue to be extremely competitive, but there’s a much larger focus on making sure the 100th place band at grand nationals has as incredible of an experience as the first place band, and that echoes through every aspect of the organization. Necessarily, this leaves a big gap in coverage that outlets like HornRank and FloMarching among others are filling in. Much like how we fill in the gaps in recaps from BOA, ISSMA, and locally-operated regional-caliber events, we aim to provide additional information and context for the nerds who want to dig into the detaill. I hope these forums can be a place where we can be simultaneously analytical and supportive of all the work being done by all the groups.

We really need to meet up one of these days. lol .. I kill plants... and they partially kill me (allergies) so we have a mutual appreciation and agreement to stay away from each other.

This forum is picking up steam nicely! Thanks again Jeremiah for taking this on. Yes this seems to be working well. So far good traffic for the off season. Will see how it picks up when DCI and then BOA get underway. The format is actually considerably easier to follow then the old forums. I would have been posting more on the history thread but I keep having this thing called work getting in my way.

Hey, unless my eyes are fooling me, I noticed that the forums are not yet linked on the home page. I’m pretty sure that is purposeful.

I'm playing in a pit for a musical, and I was talking to my friend's mom who is a flute player there. After some talk of her high school days, I found out that she was the flute soloist for 1995 Broken Arrow! Just thought that was pretty cool

Would it be possible to get notifications easier or am I just doing it wrong?
The way it works for me is I see a counter next to "profile". I click on that, then have to click on notifications to see what is going on.

Thanks for setting up these forums! I was worried you wouldn’t find this place after the mfa forum shut down. Glad you’re here.

Can I just say how nice it is to come here and see ZERO spam?! It’s fantastic. So much more of a pleasant experience than the MFA forum was, though I do miss the chit chat there. It’s a bit quiet here but hopefully that will pick up in the coming months.

That might be the reason why it’s still a little slow.

I hope this isn't a bad time to direct this message to Mr. Wooten here(on tour again maybe?) but if I may ask when do you plan to link the forum to the main page and start publicizing it?

My guess would be when it comes time to release the first poll. He is indeed on tour right now helping with Academy.

I remember him being on tour last year so I thought he might be on tour again this year, especially with how quiet he has been on forums as of late. And that would make sense. I just figured he might update the site now that Drum Corps season is under way.

I am indeed in tour with The Academy as a tour manager and prop manager. Won’t be able to focus on the site again until August.

I decided to go ahead and launch our forums since the MFA forums are becoming overwhelmed with spam and keep mysteriously deleting many posts and threads. It's still a work in progress, so you can expect to see changes over time. For now, it's going to stay a little bit low key, with no direct link from HornRank's homepage, but (obviously) you've already discovered the url forums.hornrank.com takes you here. We'll definitely need moderators in the future, but with the current settings requiring account approval for each individual, and these forums somewhat exclusive, hidden nature, I think we won't have to worry about moderation for now. I'm curious and excited to see if these forums catch on at all, and how their use evolves over time. Thanks for joining, and I can't wait to read your insight! Jeremiah I think it’s catching on. We will be having our one year birthday next month!!

As a moderator here, I just wanted everyone to be aware of the addition of MANY new members to this site in the last few weeks. We welcome all of you to our discussion and we hope that you will enjoy your time here. Please remember to be respectful of everyone and to be gracious when discussing your favorite (and least favorite) bands. While we do all enjoy a lively conversation now and then, we just ask that everyone keep it civil and friendly, and that we all stick to our favorite topic as much as possible. You know…..band. 😉
Enjoy!

Crazy to think it has only been a bit over two years of having these forums. Thanks to everyone who has made them popular and an incredible source of information! We have seen a big increase of 70 member so far in the month of September. I'm excited to see what comes of this continued growth!
