The last three groups were phenomenal. Dripping Springs made both me AND my hubby cry, so you know it was good! They could even win this whole thing with that run, tho Arvin and Fishers were fantastic as well. I did see a small error in Arvinโs show which could drop them a little. At this level, the competition is fierce and every little mistake hurts. They were brilliant though. I can see why they were seeded first coming in to Worlds in Open Class!

I would be THRILLED if Dripping Springs could move up. And the three of them were all what, less than half a point from each other after Semis yesterday, each performing a few hours apart from the other?!?! Drip was by far my favorite but sometimes it seems too much to hope against slotting...but maybe direct back-to-back comparisons is just what Dripping Springs needed to pull ahead! Fingers crossed. They were unquestionably my favorite of SO Finals in a sea of TERRIFIC shows!

Leander dominated Scholastic A last season before moving up to Open along with Dripping Springs. I would love to see The Dripp win it all their very first season in Open Class! Team Texas is making a splash in the CG world in recent years. Itโs about dang time!

Thatโs only the second time I have seen that Jimmy Stewart show by Bellbrook. Itโs so moving. And somehow I didnโt realize the first time I saw it that the girl in the brown unitard was the dog in the poem. I wish I could see it again. What a lovely job they did telling that story.

SW thoughts!!!!
Avon was tight as hell, and legit the best SW guard I've ever seen (I wasn't around for this activity when James Logan was king). I'm very curious to see if they break James Logan's high score of 98.80. I mean...what else is there to say? Other than the fact that it's impossible to grasp that Avon's kids are in high school still. Ridiculous.
CG unfortunately had a rough run, and I think either Carmel or West Broward are too tight in score to let them hang onto second. BUT, the show & group itself is still the epitome of grace & class.
West Broward was to die for. I think I'd like to see them slide up into second. A truly magical performance. Who wouldn't want to be in that show performing?!?!
Carmel, as much as I love and support the unabashed feminist manifesto...it's just not my favorite show of their's. I think I've determined that it doesn't develop & build in a particularly satisfying way, and that's what bugs me slightly. BUT BUT BUT. Some of the most talented performers in the activity. The skills Rosie Queen gets those girls to do year in and year out is jaw dropping.
Trumbull & Miamisburg, talk about elegance. Two shows of sheer beauty; Trumbull's design with the Statue of Liberty color scheme throughout, the signing, the impeccable flag feature...all of it was too beautiful. Simply perfect. Miamisburg, I will always shout it from the roof tops, they're some of the best weapon handlers in this activity every year. The double sabre feature couldn't have been more flawless.
I just want to reiterate that after ten years of watching this, it still blows my mind the level of talent & teaching capabilities at the top of the class. Simply astounding.
Norwin seemed to have a less confident run than the previous two nights, similar to CG. I wouldn't be surprised to see Lyman pass them, but I still adored the show.
Lyman was incredible as usual, sultry and sexy and every member totally buying into the show (duh. Allow high schoolers to act out a sexually-tinted show and...well...turns out they're happy to). I agree with you, LeanderMomma, maybe sex & crime isn't the most appropriate of themes....but damn they handled it professionally. I was thoroughly impressed. The performance straddled a thin line and, in my opinion, stayed in character and professional the entire time.
Flanagan, ugh. Nice for most groups, simply not what I expect from this historic trailblazer. I will go to the grave maintaining that that ten second pause was a horrible design choice that ran every bit of momentum into the ground.
Shen & Warren were both spectacular, though I felt Shen had a slightly rougher run than Semis. Unfortunately, with only 15 members as a SW Finalist, each blip just sticks out that much more. I wouldn't be surprised to see Warren pass them, although I much preferred Shen's show.
Stoneman, I get it. There isn't much simultaneous demand or choreography under the tosses, but wow is it fun. Sometimes you just need a good throwback, unison sky high tosses show!
TW seemed much more nervous than Prelims or Semis, but still absolutely deserved to be in Finals. And I get it, this is probably the most intimidating crowd they've performed in front of. Yes, BOA Finals, but this is a vastly more intimate & exposed of a venue. Again, this group unquestionably deserved their Finals berth!
Northview was terrific and looked liked seasoned pros. I'd expect them to pass TW.
Bellbrook...well, all I can say is three times is FAR too many times to see that show! I cried every time. But, again, I'm 100% on board with their unexpected Finals berth. A group that truly looked World Class, moved elegantly, had layered & well-written work...just flat out looked like a SW Finalist group!

Just saw on Twitter that Rosie Queen is moving on from teaching Carmelโs colorguard. That's really unfortunate! She's been there for...i'm guessing at least 15 years. Rosie Queen was/is absolutely instrumental in influencing so much of the visual design & staging on the football field through her many years writing for Carmel. Everything they've pioneered visually over the years has trickled down, and all of that pioneering was helmed by her.

Sheโs evidently moving across the country. Maybe a California squad is about to be the new beneficiary of her expertise! Just thinking out loud.

How often do groups self- promote from A to Open or Open to World if they do not automatically get promoted but were close?

Back to Rosie Queen. Evidently her husband has taken a job in California so theyโre moving there. There are some amazing bands and DCI groups in California. Iโm betting we see Rosie working with one or more of them VERY soon!

*-*-*-*-*-*-* Yes I think she said it had been over 15 years. Sheโs evidently moving across the country. Maybe a California squad is about to be the new beneficiary of her expertise! Just thinking out loud. It's quite sad! I can understand after 15 years with the program, achieving everything there is to achieve, wanting to move on to a new chapter. The past few years I've noticed more of Michael Townsend's influence on Carmel's design and choreography. Considering he's also the color guard director for Boston Crusaders, along w/ their lineup of designers/instructors, they're in great hands! You know Rosie is proud to leave the Carmel guard on such a high note. +-+-+-+-+-+ Absolutely! Sheโs obviously quite proud and was a bit emotional over leaving them behind. Evidently her husband has accepted a job in California and thatโs why they are moving. Canโt wait to see where she ends up!
