It isn’t sounding too good for Round Rock. I really hope they pull a nice performance spot in semis and regardless of placement, have a fun and memorable trip to Indy.

So, I'm going to tune in for TX 6A finals today. I watched BOA San Antonio this weekend. Can y'all (see, I'm practicing my southern) give me insight in how UIL sheets differ from BOA sheets? Greater/lesser emphasis on certain components of performance? Differing captions, etc. I definitely had my own favs from Saturday, but I've not seen a good vid of FloMo yet. Just curious how scoring for today's competition may differ from BOA.

Currently they look most like a DCI sheet. Each judge has a 1,000 point scale that is divided into 500 points for content and 500 points for achievement. There are 7 judges. Ensemble music in the box, woodwinds, brass, and percussion from the field, Ensemble visual from the box, individual visual from the field, and a "content and design" judge (UIL's new version of GE) in the box. The final score is still done in an ordinal style so the best score possible is a 7 (first place from every judge). So far I actually really like it. The ability for one judge to completely tank a band seems to be quite a bit lower.

Round Rock is out of state finals. While sad for Round Rock this gives me hope that we will see Fishers or Castle in finals! True. But given Dobyns-Bennett's proximity to Tarpon a couple of weeks ago, I'd say they are the more serious threat to a Fishers/Castle finals berth anyway. Not sure about Wando.

Can someone explain how semi finals is scheduled again? I forget every year and seem to always have to ask this question... At Band Check-In, each group pulls a number which builds a predraw for later performance order. This cuts down on the amount of time it takes to put together the semifinals schedule. As soon as the last band's scores are tabulated, BOA knows the semifinals schedule. Top 11 bands from each panel advance. Then the next 8 overall scores. After those 30 are determined, if there are not 2 from each class from each panel advancing, additional bands advance to fill out that representation. Once advancement is determined, panels do not count in any way. First groups to perform (before 8am eastern) are class representatives in semis predraw order. From the 30 bands who advance on score, the top 22 are slotted into performance times 5-26 in semis predraw order. The groups finishing 23-30 in prelims are split into performance times 1-4 and 27-30 in semis predraw order.

Can someone explain how semi finals is scheduled again? I forget every year and seem to always have to ask this question... The first 'x' bands on are all of the bands who advanced as class representatives (minimum of 2 per class per panel must be in semifinals). In 2019, there were 8 such qualifiers. After the class representative bands finish, the next 4 bands are from what we know as "the outside 8." These are scorers 23-30 from preliminaries, regardless of panel. Then the Top 22 scorers from prelims, regardless of panel perform. Finally, the remaining 4 bands of "the outside 8." Within each group of bands (class representatives, outside 8, top 22) the performance order is based on the pre-draw that bands complete at check-in. The draw orders for both semifinals and finals (two separate unrelated draws) are posted at band check-in. Those with lower numbers get the earliest times within their group. Note: this is just a different way of expressing what Allohak posted while I was typing.

About the only thing I might be able to do differently is put them over Rosemount, as I don't have much to go on there. But in all honesty this is where I see them this year. No games.

The simulated crowd eagerly awaits the simulated finals... I was told that your algorithm was hot garbage. Not true? It would be pretty slick to add in both the recency bias and the randomization as Hostrauser suggested. Then train "The Algorhythm" to run 1000 times with random seeds and average all the runs to the final ranked list. Then it's bulletproof.

Bourbon County lost the Prelims Panel #2 Class A duel to Murray (KY) and Collinsville (OK). Less than a point separated the three bands.
Flower Mound had an incredible Prelims run and was actually 1st overall heading into Semis, but couldn't keep the momentum going on Saturday.

Those caption placements actually seem fairly plausible for me. CTJ had great GE scores at San Antonio but their music scores were what held them back. A shame because I think they're one of the best playing bands in the state; they just get a bit carried away sometimes and overplay in certain moments to where the tuning gets a little off.
