Got goosebumps several times during Avon's performance. I don't think that was the best run they've ever had, but I still have them in the lead currently.

Good god. Avon has a lengthy history to live up to, but this may be one of the best Avon bands I've seen yet. That guard is fearless, and that's probably the best I've ever seen from that drumline.
Just Avon doing Avon things.

Avon: Opening hit is great Love "Slalom" being marched [Has another band done this?] Fire of Eternal Glory?! Nice woodwind presentation Really clean percussion feature Was that saxophone with guitar filter [For lack of a better term] Harloff channeling PR with the kick halt at the end...nice. Carolina Crown played Slalom in 2009. There have definitely been high schools that have played it I just can’t think of them

I think that Avon can easily win this thing with a cleaner run. They were on fire! (Get it???)

Wow, wow, wow…..Avon. I think the best that we have seen today.

Avon is ridiculous. I think they have a better run in them but they have two more runs to do that. Their brass line sounds more controlled and balanced than 2019 and I love that.

Huron Valley: Interesting show theme. Solid opener. Appreciate the difficulty in the book for all sections Narrative exposition is ok... Nice mallet feature. Nice piano solo to close it out. Solid overall.

This show absolutely has the wheels to take them to the top, but largely dependent on whether they can get on Saturday evening. Given the clutch genes they've had the last few years, I think they'll get it.

It’s amazing to me how different Carmel and Avon are and yet both are so absolutely amazing. Much like Avon this Carmel show screams their name and is so authentically them. This world class guard is absolutely amazing and I’m in awe of them every time I see them preform. Carmel’s take on Rhapsody On a Theme of Paganini is my favorite musical moment of the season. Sooooo good!

Carmel: Interesting props Nice opening statement. Pointillistic Paganini is a unique statement of the theme. More woodwind demand than I've seen from any band this block. More of a symphonic approach than some of the other bands so far [Though I understand this is typical of Carmel?]
I'll give Avon the slight edge, personally, but that's just my opinion.

That Carmel show is wonderful, but I think Avon was better… today at least. Regardless, both have improved a lot since BOA Indy a couple weeks ago!

I don't even know how judges can evaluate Avon vs. Carmel. I feel like the shows are so different, and both are very effective in their own way. I guess it may come down to execution, but I think both groups performed similarly as well. If I had to pick, I guess I might pick Carmel on this specific night, but a better performance from Avon could easily make me flip-flop my choice.

With a clean run, I think they have the edge overall this year in terms of consistency across all captions. Music is what hurt them in 2019, but they sound so much more mature now. That’s not to say that I think they will sweep captions (though I think they are a shoe in for overall visual) but I don’t see as many flaws hindering them as opposed to some of the others at the top. But we’ll have to wait and see what happens!

I will never get over that Carmel sound. So full, so wide, so EXPANSive. They’re spread all across the field and that, in addition to all the cold attacks and speeding up/slowing down, is super demanding. It’s super difficult for me to decide but I’d put them just above Avon based on what I saw from the visual side of things

Talawanda: Solid opening statement. Like the unison bass drum stuff. Nice woodwind moment in opening of ballad. Are the bass drummers spinning flags? They're doing a solid job with that. That drumline is solid! All 6 of them have solid chops.

Fishers: Nice opening statement and woodwind feature Really like the blue aesthetic Muted brass plus cymbals is a cool soundscape for the low winds to play within. Trombone feature is quite nice Is that Delleruyelle's "Fraternity" I'm hearing? Tasteful vocals are best vocals

Fishers show is so well designed this season, it’s easy to see why they placed 3rd in ISSMA finals last weekend. It all clicks so well! Amazing visual moments and some spectacular music GE moments. Musically their upper brass seemed a bit rough tonight but their music book is great (I love how they work Beyond the Sea in there). I hope that next season is just as competitive between Fishers, Castle, Brownsburg and Homestead.
