Skyridge tied with Davis, but the announcer failed to say it. It's possible that Davis beat them in General Effect and got the higher placement as a result. I know they don't do that anymore for determining the champion (they just declare co-champions instead), but they might still do that for the lower placements.

Skyridge tied with Davis, but the announcer failed to say it. Placement would have been determined by GE score if this is the case.

Sadly missed Etiwanda due to getting my mom Box5 but that was a very good show from Rancho Cucamonga! Great show all around.

That's AFs highest BOA score ever if I'm not mistaken!

I'm very impressed with the top tier of Utah bands. I didn't get to see them perform, but they really showed up today and you can see in their scores that there are several groups on the cusp of making waves outside of Utah. I really want there to be a super regional out west soon.

Maybe it’s just me paying lesser attention to competitions out west, but is it a typical occurrence to see bands doing chants or being heavily involved in activities during full retreat? Heard plenty of cheers or shouts from band members…maybe it’s just my central/Midwest competition ears making me unaware of other normalities.
Side note: something about this event felt a bit all over. Whether it be the mistakes in announcing during prelims, the microphone for the announcer never seeming to connect directly into Box5, or the short squeals/cries/I don’t even know what it was that kept interrupting the stream, it felt like this regional wasn’t kept as tight as most others are. So many amazing bands…yet it just felt so chaotic. All being said, congratulations to American fork on their VERY high first place score! They once again have had an amazing season, and I look forward to the continued excellence their program puts out every year.

Big congrats to American Fork. This is regional win number 13 with their highest score ever. This season also marked the first time American Fork won two regional titles in the same season.

I get FM had a pretty plain Jane show compared to the rest, but when I saw Joni shaking her head during their performance tn I knew it wasn’t looking pretty

I get FM had a pretty plain Jane show compared to the rest, but when I saw Joni shaking her head during their performance tn I knew it wasn’t looking pretty I guess FM beating River bluff actually was not a good indicator of their success here. I know you predicted a 5-10 placement but I don’t think you imagined last in finals. I don’t think them coming in 12th was what the directors and parents envisioned when they chose this Regional. I hope this experience will have them re-evaluate what direction they want the FM program to go in the future.

They should do a Salt Lake City regional or super regional tbh It would have to be earlier in the year. It's too dang cold in SLC in November, which is why they hold the regional in St George. That 4 hour drive south makes a 20-30 degree difference. 🙂

If we make this a Super Regional, I already know who's coming. Blue Springs, MO. They have gone to every Super Regional

I'm told they're the only NFL stadiums to do so. Vegas would draw a ton of national interest as a destination trip for marching bands, too. Easy and cheap to get in and out of. Tons of hotels. Would draw from entire Western US...and Texas, OK, Missouri at least. I think THAT'S the future for a western Super Regional.

Unlike LOS, which has a history with marching band, Allegiant Stadium would likely be prohibitively expensive. Note the lack of ANY current NFL stadia aside from LOS for reference.

Yeah, you’re totally right about the history and probably right about the expense. Still think Vegas is a better option for a western super than any other location. Maybe Sam Boyd Stadium? Big upgrade from St George capacity. And Pinecrest could host.

WBA did a show at SoFi this year. Mind you, it was on a Monday. Youth in Music is held at Minneapolis’s US Bank Stadium. USBands does one of their championship events at Met Life Stadium. Although, these stadiums (along with Lucas Oil) do not have a regular college tenant, so that makes scheduling slightly easier. Edit: Added more examples

It’s interesting to see how scores switch up between prelims and finals. Fort Mill and Rancho Cucamonga switched spots while Maple Mountain stayed in 11th. Cedar Valley technically “beat” Etiwanda in finals after being behind them in prelims, skyridge went from one of the third place winners to 5th, and Farmington moved up to 4th. I guess it all really comes down to how well your run was and the judges opinion.

'Tis another regional in the books.
I've never been in Utah before and had rather indefinite plans to visit, so I was thrilling that a band show would bring me to the state. I wonder how many people would feel unnerved saying I'd probably remember the palm trees the most...
Utah Tech was a gorgeous venue to be at. Where else could you just look off to the south and see the canyon ranges? The venue itself was also ideal in terms of layout- it was quite easy for bands to jump from trucks to warm-ups over to the field. A very slight tight fit here and there but Utah Tech has been blessed with being a consistently popular regional so all of the weird kinks in between have been worked out.
A big thank you to the American Fork parents for volunteering for the regional. Honestly, it's been years and years of experience in this pool of volunteers and they've been the true MVPs of making sure this event happens every year.
I'll also say I found the Utah band culture quite refreshing, too. The top has been obviously dominated by quite a few historic programs, but all underneath those, I felt a sense of DIY that that's pushing the direction of the activity in the state. The language to succeed hasn't been deciphered yet so most bands are trying out what works for them the best. What I love is there are MANY that are working really hard to make this happen for their programs, meaning there's a ton of educators that are dreaming big. It is going to be a fantastic time when the Utah dominance begins being questioned, because it's going to be when Utah have bands that are knocking on the door to GN Finals.
And none of the above is to take away from American Fork's win! There's been years of AF be given their dues, but also with a small tinge of whether the shows would shine on the national stage. This year feels more confident all around, like the program understood the assignment and know they can absolutely ace it. I think the show would be modified to a bit more if they were going to GN, but it was still a fantastically executed concept.

Does anyone know if Box 5 allows you to go rewatch the livestream? I want to go see Rancho Cucamonga's, Etiwanda's, and Fort Mill's show as I unfortunately didn't get to watch them.
