Not updated on the BOA page yet, but Mason will not be attending this regional. They are attending the OMEA Buckeye Invitational on the same day instead. I speculate this is to have the opportunity for a high angle video that will not be available at Castle Obetz. For historical perspective, Mason has only attended 1 OMEA event (performed with judges commemts but did not "compete" or receive a "score"/rating) in 20+ years. As an alumnus, them attending an OMEA marching event (at all) is very disappointing. As a fan of the activity, them choosing to attend an OMEA event over a BOA event (whatever the reason) is alarming.

It appears as though Dublin Coffman has dropped, as well. Their band calendar says “OMEA Marching Band Contest”. Perhaps they joined Mason...

Was this is the only weekend Mason could've competed in BOA? "Could have"? Only if they wanted to do a big trip. Schedule with "local" (read as "within a few hour bus ride") BOA shows: Sep 21 (Toledo/Louisville) is too early based on the formula they've used for years now Sep 28 (Columbus) would be a waste of a performance in that venue, hence (assuming) the change Oct 5 (Muncie) is homecoming Oct 12 is home MSBA show Oct 19 is MSBA Centerville Oct 26 (Indy Super) is a rehearsal day (never done Indy) Nov 2 is a rehearsal day Nov 9 is (home) MSBA championships

Good to see Greenfield confirmed. They are the band I heard was going to Columbus.
I think they could really generate some momentum with a good showing here.

Milford was AAA last year at Grand Nationals. Not sure if their enrollment changed for this year. Yes, they are now AA this year. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Is there a consolidated list of classifications or do you have some inside info? As discussed on here before, the self-classification process is pretty haphazard.

I know several designers on staff, in this instance. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Then their enrollment count is VERY different than the State of Ohio data their school district turned in. State of Ohio Headcount Enrollment for Fall 2018: Milford HS 9th - 544 10th - 525 11th - 433 12th - 431 With that knowledge, using their 2018 9th, 10th and 11th grade they are at 1,502 which is 252 over the AA cutoff. Maybe there was a massive enrollment swing between 2018 and 2019...

The Ohio High School Athletic Association did a count of all students in Grade 9-11 last spring to set the 10-12 divisions this school year. The results can be found here: ohsaa.org/school-resources/school-enrollmentMilford had 1548 students in Grades 9-11 last year, those are the exact same students currently making up the BOA enrollment. Unless Milford had 300 kids leave the school between February and now, I think it's safe to say Milford will be in AAA.

Looks like Lakota East will likely win their first regional. I just wonder how close Kiski and Lakota will be. I’m thinking a full caption sweep for Lakota based off of their scores the past few seasons, but you never know. Aside from that, I’m really rooting for Milford since I don’t think they have attended any regionals in recent years (correct me of I’m wrong) and I think they have potential to score pretty high.

Having attended the Buckeye Invitational each of the past several years, I've spoken to a lot of parents from schools with all manner of differents bands, including some who were appearing at one or more BOA events during the year, and let me tell you, the allure of appearing at OSU's stadium is very strong; as you probably know, it's like a quasi-religious experience for a good many Ohioans. I'm sure even Mason parents will be chanting along when the OSU band plays "Hang On Sloopy". If it's any consolation, among OMEA events, this one seems to get some of the most experienced judges, so Mason will likely get some insightful comments, albeit not from people who are working at the national level. (That said, someone in another thread said (erroneously in my opinion) that Grove City's musical chops have slipped since the legendary George Edge retired. Well, he's been a judge at this event recently.) And Mason will almost certainly "win", although no winners will be announced. All that happens publicly at the Buckeye Invitational is that caption awards are named in each class (AA, A, B, C -- Mason is AA, of course, being the largest high school in the state): music, visual, general effect, percussion, and guard. It looks like there will be 13 bands in Mason's class: it's a pretty good lineup, actually. (Not so much in the other classes, in my opinion, though obviously I hope to be pleasantly surprised.) Edit: just noticed that per your comment, apparently the last time they appeared at this event they didn't receive a score or rating. It is possible that's happening again, although if they're really good (as one would expect), it will confuse the audience if they aren't named as one of the caption winners, because I think it's unlikely to be announced in advance that they're only receiving comments.

While Lakota East is most likely the favorite for this regional, I would not be surprised at all to see Kiski Area take this one. Kiski is a band program that knows how to get things done. I'm expecting a tighter margin than others would think...

Kiski is pretty good! My worry with Lakota East is they can be quite dirty in the beginning of the season it seems. while Kiski is definitely smaller they are usually pretty clean especially visually. I’d say Lakota East wins but maybe I’ll change my mind after seeing both

Last time Lakota East went against Kiski in a regional was 2017 at Dayton, while Lakota got 3rd behind Carmel and Avon and Kiski got 7th with a decent gap between the two groups. Taking that into consideration, and the fact that 2018 was an even better year for Lakota East in the sense that they scored really high at Bowling Green, made finals at the super regional, and made semi finals at gn above groups like Fort Mill, I’m just going to say Lakota has a really good chance of winning, especially if they improved from last year. I don’t disagree with the idea of Kiski grabbing one of the captions though, since they are a smaller school and it’s likely they have clean drill, but I can also see this being a complete blowout for Lakota. Judging by how crazy the results for last week were, I guess really anything could happen!
