How long have they been doing a pre-draw? Didn't they used to do an actual draw on Sunday afternoon?

So far I’ve heard:
1 - Fishers 2 - Goshen 3 - Homestead 4 - Carroll 5 - Center Grove 6 - Avon
I also know Carmel performs before Brownsburg but I’m not sure if there is anyone between them.

This is another example of how FloMarching does some things better than Box5. I already paid a considerable amount of money for the Box5 Pro Pass so I could watch as many BOA comps as I am able to. But if I want to watch ISSMA (and I would love to), I have to pay yet even more money. At least with Flo, you get unlimited access for $29.99 a month.

The entire list is on IN Bands - no times, but presumably the order of performance for all classes. Avon and Carmel perform back to back.

I am starting to suspect the order listed on the INBands contest page is the actual order: Fishers Goshen Homestead Carroll Center Grove Avon Carmel Westfield Brownsburg Noblesville That's not really a bad order. Sucks a bit for Fishers but it puts Homestead/Carroll/CG close together, and Avon/Carmel together. Brownsburg has to be pleased with slipping Westfield in there before they go on. Preliminary prediction, having not seen any semistate scores: 1. Carmel 2. Avon 3. Brownsburg 4. Fishers 5. Carroll 6. Homestead 7. Center Grove 8. Noblesville 9. Goshen 10. Westfield.

Just a reminder. For anyone heading to Lucas for class B, and possibly some of class C, the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon is taking place Saturday morning. Plan travel accordingly. I recommend approaching Lucas Oil from the south to avoid runners and road closures.

Could someone explain how a position could be considered good or bad? I can understand having a 10am slot and being 4 hours away but is there more to it?

Could someone explain how a position could be considered good or bad? I can understand having a 10am slot and being 4 hours away but is there more to it? Going first in a group of bands means that you have to set the expectations. If you aren’t so strong, your score will be disproportionately deflated and vice versa. Judges also tend to forget how they scored earlier bands as the day goes on, meaning scores become warped.

Could someone explain how a position could be considered good or bad? I can understand having a 10am slot and being 4 hours away but is there more to it? I’m simple terms, a band doesn’t want to go first because I guess it makes you “least memorable” or something like that. The last slot is the most wanted spot because of the score creep throughout the night. (Usually don’t see this at finals at least for me, because there’s only 10 bands) But there’s also cases where for example a band wouldn’t want to go after or before Avon or Carmel as it makes them look a bit less than. That’s at least how I hear it is, I’m sure there’s more to it though. For example goshen got a bad spot going in between fishers and homestead. However brownsburg got a fantastic spot going 2nd to last inbetween Westfield and Noblesville.

Could someone explain how a position could be considered good or bad? I can understand having a 10am slot and being 4 hours away but is there more to it? It's not as simple as "you don't want to go on early," but given the option most groups would rather perform later. But there are plenty of variables. The most obvious reason for not wanting to go on first (or early) is the notion that judges aren't likely to want to give out very high scrores early in the competition, as they need to allow plenty of room on the score sheets for potentially better groups later. This could lead to an early group being scored artificially low. Now one would hope that regardless of what score the first group gets they should be able to properly slot later groups relative to them, but in practice scores seem to get inflated later in a competition. So going first is not ideal. But as far as a performance order, there are many other variables. Who are you following? Who is following you? Would you rather go on first...or following Carmel and Avon later on like Westfield? I think the ideal spot for most groups would be following a couple of groups that you think you're slightly better than, but are pretty good in their own right. They can push the scores up a bit and then you follow and judges will need to go up from there. I think Carroll has a pretty good spot for them even though it's in the first half of finals. Fishers goes on first, then Goshen, then Homestead, then Carroll. Fishers can put up a decent score from the 1 spot, and then it gives the judges a great look at Homestead vs Carroll, and Carroll has been winning that battle so they have to like this scenario. There are always lots of factors and variables concerning what is a good spot or bad spot. Fishers obviously can't be happy, (nor Westfield) but it's not a terrible draw for anyone else in Class A. EDIT: These are just my opinions as an observer, and shouldn't represent any particular group's ideas on the matter.

Thank you for the replies. Makes perfect sense now. We are right in the middle of class B surrounded by very good bands so it should make for a great competition!

Class A Predictions (with where I could see variance in placements): 1. Carmel (H:1, L:2) 2. Avon (H:1, L:2) 3. Brownsburg (H:3, L:3) 4. Carroll (H:4, L:6) 5. Homestead (H:4, L:6) 6. Fishers (H:4, L:6) 7. Center Grove (H:7, L:8) 8. Noblesville (H:7, L:8) 9. Westfield (H:9, L:10) 10. Goshen (H:9, L:10)
