True. But I for one wouldn’t be surprised. It’s a GN Year for TWHS. That’s why I picked them. They’ll definitely try to focus more on the BOA stuff then other stuff in their show this year. And while we did have a tropical storm a couple weeks ago, we didn't have another Harvey...

And while we did have a tropical storm a couple weeks ago, we didn't have another Harvey... Lately the TWHS has been attempting some pretty difficult shows which take a while to clean. But that doesn’t mean they cant win, and doesn’t necessarily mean they’re behind or whatever. They’re a great band with a great staff and usually great shows I’m sure this year and the years in the future will be no different

I think musically they'll be a credit to Bernstein's music. Have no idea visually as I've not seen the show in person.

I'm gonna be honest, I'm not feeling the hype. It was a solid show, but it didn't quite hit me like I was wanting. I do expect them to be in finals though, maybe a second viewing will change my mind. Love the visual design 100%, props are great with the storytelling yet it doesn't get in the way of the band from doing some incredibly engaging drill moves. Music is where it fell flat with me, it's almost all music I've heard on the field countless times before so I can't watch the show without thinking of other shows. Execution is solid but it also felt like a rough run, hoping to see them tonight with a better run! P.S. I've been a big fan of the program since their Dracula show in 2017, so I'm rooting for them no matter what.

A lot of punctuated stabs and dissonant hits and not much more than that.

Anybody know why Churchill Fulshear isn't performing in exhibition? Don't know the exact reason. They were the first band that performed, and were a late addition to the contest when Conroe dropped. They may have had another contest or a football game. Their Drum Majors were not at the awards ceremony.

That sleigh drill in Westwood's show was great! It reminds me of the drill that goes viral for Ohio State.

Westwood is basically doing a better version of Round Rock 2016. Still a little confused on how the woodlands couldn’t top this especially visually / ge. Westwood sounds very good though imo. They should be very proud

Where is that big woodlands sound? This show isn’t my cup of tea but they’re still good. Lots of dirt in the music. Really not a fan of the drill. White uniforms makes bands usually look huge- that’s not really happening and they must have at least 140 winds out there

Really nice job by The Woodlands on the pas de deux from "On the Town" (that Santa Clara Vanguard played in 1997).

Question - is it a bad thing that the white uniforms don't do the "usual" thing and make them look huge? I would say that the sailor outfits do much better live than on the Flo stream.

I have nothing against them doing that I just love the shows where they play their socks off. They’re probably much better live than on flo, as all things are band related

They’re probably much better live than on flo, as all things are band related I get that too - nothing like a massive horn line saying hello world! In fact, as a former trumpet player, I really like that big brassy sound, but I also know that it isn't enough to be as successful at the top of this endeavor. Gotta play to the show and keep things under control.

White uniforms makes bands usually look huge- that’s not really happening and they must have at least 140 winds out there I got the same vibe from a visual perspective, so I counted the winds and it was roughly 160-170. Seems a bit smaller than usual, but certainly not by much. The drill just seemed very condensed at times, and the uniforms didn't help. I felt the same as you overall. I enjoyed the show for what it was, but it wasn't exactly what I was expecting from a show performed by The Woodlands. Still, it was enjoyable. My biggest surprises in the field were Clear Brook and Westwood. Clear Brook caught me really off guard.

I would imagine it had to do with the jazz style, but the On the Town soundtrack had amazing sound without distorting tone for the sake of volume or style. Centered tone just projects better, the physics of resonance.

I’m just not a huge fan of straight jazz in marching band - probably get that opinion from my old high school director. But he loved jazz in ensemble during the winter
