There have been talks about the want of a Super Regional in the West, and I want to discuss what viable options there would be for dates, locations, and cost for starting one out here. Also, what bands would attend if there were one?
Some important notes: -I don't think that this is likely to happen, at least not soon, mainly due to the opening of the Etiwanda CA, and reopening of the Moscow ID regional -The main push for this seems to be due to the high attendance of the UT regional every year
Possible locations: Allegiant Stadium - has a high occupancy and plenty of potential warm-up areas Lavell Edwards Stadium (BYU) - almost as high occupancy as Allegiant, holds a marching band competition independently, not quite so many warm-up areas Rice-Eccles Stadium (UoU) - less occupancy, already hosts a DCI event, has a good amount of warm up areas

Based on historical participation what are the odds they can get 65+ bands for a 2 day competition out there?
That’s what it comes down to.

It is returning to Stewart Stadium this year, because I’m guessing that it’s pretty expensive to rent out Rice-Eccles. I’d count it out. Lavell Edwards might be alright, they have other fields around the stadium that could potentially be turned into warm up areas. I feel like parking could accommodate the amount of bands to attend a super regional, although some parking areas would require a bit of walking. However, the weather would most likely be the determining factor of where the SR would take place. I feel like it would most likely take place in Las Vegas, whether it’s at Allegiant Stadium or not. I feel like it really centralizes the western bands, it would draw straight from California, Arizona, Utah, and Nevada, and would also attract their surrounding states such as Colorado, New Mexico, The PNW, and maybe even Wyoming. I have no doubt it would also get some Texas and Oklahoma bands, and the more occasional eastern bands as well. If it were up in the Wasatch Front, I feel like it wouldn’t have as great of a pull to all of those areas. It would just feel random, and poorly planned.

First thing would be to hold a regional in the same place every year to generate interest.
My pick would be Allegiant stadium in Vegas. It could draw from Vegas, LA, Phoenix, and Utah.
Why this will never happen; $$$$ The cost of the stadium and the cost of travel. Cities are simply farther apart out west then they are east of the Rockies.
