Will be held Oct. 5, 2019, at the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland, just north of the nation's capital.

That looks to be a lot of ensembles that have never been there. Are you sure this is correct information?

Dobyns Bennett does not have this regional listed on their website so I think some of these groups are mistakes.

I think James Madison and Norwin are both also likely to attend, as it's been a while since they haven't. I'm not sure about Green Hope, since their school is undergoing a director change next year.

It's not on their calender as far as I know. I'm not sure who you're referring to, but I'm assuming it's Green Hope. They have the date listed as a "possible competition day". And yeah, Dobyns-Bennett does not seem to be planning on attending this regional based on their 2019 calendar.

Yup - and they also didn't compete that weekend in 2018 or 2016, either. Seems to be their off weekend.

Site is the University of Maryland stadium this year. Interesting. I don't think this will introduce too many other names to this event, but it will possibly draw more Northern Virginia schools (some of whom can really play!). Things probably won't get shaken too much at the top though unless a band from Ohio or the Carolinas decides to come up.

This one fascinates me a bit as my oldest daughter lives in the DC area and I just don't connect that with marching bands. It would sure be a fun trip for kids to make, though. Spending a day exploring the Smithsonian museums.

Spending a day exploring the Smithsonian museums. The Maryland regional has always been a typical regional for BOA (though it was further north), but this is the first time I've seen it titled as DC. I didn't realize Maryland was literally on top of the capital.

BOA is still calling it the Mid-Atlantic Regional. For our purposes on HornRank, I'm calling it the Washington DC Regional because we prefer to name regionals after the cities that host them, not vague regions, and it's significantly closer to DC than the Houston Regional is to Houston, so it seems acceptable. Depending on traffic, it'll take on average between 20 minutes and an hour to travel the 8 miles to get to DC.

When I visit her, it only takes us about 35 minutes to get from Reagan airport in DC to her house in Maryland. Even the metro goes out from DC to a station just a few miles away from her. Sometimes I take the metro downtown, or to Arlington National Cemetery or to the airport when I’m there.

I didn't realize Maryland was literally on top of the capital. That is a truly sad statement to make - did your school system not teach ANY geography? Not directing anything negative at thewho - just an indictment of our education system.

I don't think most people could place all the states properly in New England. Speaking of New England, Trumbull is currently a notable absence at this regional. Moving SW adds a significant % to their travel. A <4 hour trip becomes almost 6. (For many of the groups we know and love, that's not that big of a deal [used to several-hour trips for in-state shows], but it may be for them.)
