There’s a lot of new names I don’t recognize for this regional, however, I do know students from Cicero-North Syracuse and I’ve seen a couple of their shows. I think aside from Norwin being the obvious favorite, Cicero could place pretty high as well. They just happen to be quite small (in fact, they have been marching 8th graders too. I’m not sure if there are any BOA rules against this)

Governor Thomas Johnson is a good late addition to the lineup.

As much as they struggled last year I'm confident they would not have lost to spring Ford but you have a point.

These northeast shows are just awful to try and guess at. I’m not even going to try but Norwin will probably win even though I always think James Madison is better LOL

They put together better shows and their guard is fantastic. Just fantastic. I'm looking forward to watching them this weekend.

Norwin is very good but sometimes underwhelming but let's face it, LJ Hancock helped write the BOA book and so let it never be said this band doesn't know how to craft a winning show.

Norwin is indisputably a very good band, but, as has been stated above, underwhelming at times. While they used to have complete dominance over the Mid-Atlantic/Northeast region of the U.S., that dominance has definitely slipped over the last few years. In 2015, James Madison put on an incredibly strong showing and would have won the BOA regional if it were not for that one band from Florida. In 2016, a variety of bands came very close to topping Norwin at the early season Monroeville regional. Had Norwin attended BOA Mid-Atlantic@UD that year, I believe they also would have lost to an incredibly good Trumbull band. In 2017, Norwin's strongest year in recent memory, they won the regional. Last year (2018), Norwin won the regional, although I thought that Norwin seemed weak and that James Madison and Green Hope both had much stronger performances. I suppose these opinions may be wrong, but I'm not a judge I still believe that James Madison will win this one.

The Maryland regional has always been a typical regional for BOA (though it was further north), but this is the first time I've seen it titled as DC. I didn't realize Maryland was literally on top of the capital. One would need to leave about an hour for travel time between the stadium site and DC proper I live near UMD, it's about a 30 minute drive.

Anybody see any of these bands? I saw only Edison, Westfield and TJ. TJ is strong and I would bet top five here although I found their show just overly cute. Westfield was solid, Edison has some work to do but certainly not bad.

I caught a few minutes of jp Stevens, it was alright seemed like a difficult show with a decent bad. They looked bigger

I didn't get to see James Madison but assuming they will be in finals. I saw Norwin's show twice already this year and it loooks really good, as usual.

Brick Memorial seemee pretty good in context of this show. Spring Ford may make finals on the basis of solid music performance but their drill and guard seemed pretty rough.

John Champe is huge and the can really play. I like a lot of their drill. But I don't really understand some of these large bands who trot out 20+ guard and have them perform entirely incidental work.

Did anyone see Cicero-North Syracuse or Wakefield this morning? I'm not sure how BOA-friendly their shows are, but both have historically been strong (CNS more so in the last 2-3 years). I would be shocked to not see at least one of these two in finals.

Norwin....easily the best of what I saw. And I like the show.
But...a comment...a massive swath of their show involves almost zero marching and playing. I'm wondering if the show is still being developed. Danny Boy feature is all voiceover and band moving and not playing, then they literally park and play at the end then have another lengthy movemet with little playing feature.
I'm guessing the show isn't done.

Norwin's show fell flat for me. The music composition seems to be better done than in the past couple years, but I was underwhelmed.
