This is an absolutely stacked lineup. Honestly this is a better lineup than a lot of BOA shows, at least as far as competitiveness. I'm pretty sure that the only Class A bands will be Tuscola, Pisgah and maybe Enka, unless they change the thresholds. One of those bands will be the lucky recipient of a finals spot. There's going to be some very good bands left out of finals.
I wish I could go to watch but alas, the band I teach will be elsewhere that day.

Was supposed to have a house in the mountains rented during this weekend... but unfortunately mud slides are an issue this year. Might just have to drive up on my own anyway

Anyone here going this Saturday? I wish I could but the band I teach will be at Mooresville's home show that day.
Also, Pisgah will likely not be in Class A. I had not seen them for a few years until this past Saturday and they have gotten significantly larger and better, probably doubled in size since the last time I saw them maybe 3 years ago. So I have no idea who will win Class A and get a finals spot, but if I had to guess I would say Tuscola unless the Class A size cap is higher than they usually have it.

Mill Creek is playing Dance of the jesters one of my favorites. They seem very good this year!
I think Lassiter has new uniforms this year. Watch them come to win the entire show this Saturday, then it will really be like re-living the past 20 years ago, like with Lafayette last weekend. LOL

Good Morning! Anyone have predictions? Just a curious band mom If I had to pick right now... 1. Dobyns-Bennett (Music, Visual, Guard) 2. Byrnes (GE, Percussion?) 3. Kennesaw Mountain 4. Walton (could easily be overtaken by GH) 5. Green Hope 6. Lassiter (could be lower but haven’t seen anything from them) 7. Panther Creek 8. Mill Creek 9. Ardrey Kell 10. Hardin Valley (good showing at etsu) Just a guess

Another curious question, have you seen both Dobyns Bennett and James F Byrnes shows this year?

Haven't seen panther Creek but the buzz is good. No surprises if they break top 5. They typically do a bit better under NC scoring than BOA in my unscientific observation too.

Lassiter is average this year. It is possible that they could get 9th or tenth place though.

I saw a video of PC and I thought their program was quite ambitious considering the school split - it looked dirty. If they clean up their fine, if not I think they’ll be in the back half of finals.

They’re definitely the stronger playing band compared to KM and Walton. The rest I’m willing to maybe concede.

Huge brass sound and lots of big shapes, etc sometimes papering over some weaknesses in other areas. So this is an interesting year for them.

Where have you seen Walton this year? A video site lol As far as I know, Walton has not publicly posted any videos online other than a 15 second clip. It is simply not allowed.

Just a reminder, unless they've changed it this year, WCU has 12 finalists including all four class champions. Based on those being predicted above Hardin Valley will probably be in Class AA, the rest predicted will be AAA or AAAA. The Class A champion will get one of the finalist spots but likely not make it on score.

With dobyns bennett being national finalist it’ll take more than byrnes being a little better. I’ll have to be Atleast two points better to win by .05

The announce the finalists? Are awards for GE, Music etc done after prelims or finals?

The announce the finalists? Are awards for GE, Music etc done after prelims or finals? Prelims awards they do 1st and 2nd in each class for guard, percussion and drum major but IIRC they don't do awards for music, visual and effect. Then they award placement trophies for every band per class. So if there are 7 bands in a class they'll award all 7 places. So the class champions will know they've made finals before the finalists are announced at the end of prelims awards. At finals they'll award guard/perc/DM overall in finals and then placements 12th to 1st, plus the NC Roll of Honor trophy going to the highest scoring NC band once that band's placement has been announced.

Oh ok cool there are 12 finalists. I really don’t think DB will lose after last weekend. I think they at least handily take music and visual. GE might be DB’s weak spot this year but Byrnes’ show might be somewhat of an acquired taste all GE judges might not quite get onboard with - yet. What worries me about Byrnes is their content, which is exactly what DB probably has too much of.

I'm fairly certain that DB has not been beaten at WCU since at least 2011, maybe 2009. The years other bands won they were not there.
The last five-ish years they've always been a little shaky at the Carolina/Tennessee regional and have sometimes been beaten. But a week later at WCU is when they hit their stride and blow everyone out of the water.
