I can’t believe that not many people are talking about this regional. In my opinion, it may be one of the most competitive BOA regionals this season. Oh I’m sure more people will after this upcoming weekend of regionals.

I can’t believe that not many people are talking about this regional. In my opinion, it may be one of the most competitive BOA regionals this season. Well, it seems like people tend to focus more on the events that are coming up the soonest. I’m sure next week, there will be a billion posts on this regional (at least I know I’ll post my predictions and what not).

Predictions that will probably be very, very wrong.
1. Lincoln-Way H.S., IL 2. Fishers H.S., IN 3. Centerville H.S., OH 4. Carroll H.S., IN 5. Goshen H.S., IN 6. Ben Davis H.S., IN 7. Walled Lake Central H.S., MI 8. Lakota West H.S., OH 9. Lake Central H.S., IN 10. Henry Clay H.S., KY
The groups just out, or flipping with the last couple spots would most likely be from Beechwood, Campbell County, Decatur Central and Franklin Central. I think the latter’s performance slot might hurt their chances. Beechwood has been on fire (no pun intended) at their local competitions, so I can see them making finals by score.
A: 1. Beechwood H.S., KY 2. Concordia Lutheran H.S., IN 3. Carroll H.S., OH
Outstanding Music: Beechwood H.S., KY Outstanding Visual: Beechwood H.S., KY Outstanding General Effect: Beechwood H.S., KY
AA: 1. Campbell County H.S., KY 2. Rockwood Summit H.S., MO 3. South Oldham H.S., KY
Outstanding Music: Rockwood Summit H.S., MO Outstanding Visual: Campbell County H.S., KY Outstanding General Effect: Campbell County H.S., KY
AAA: 1. Goshen H.S., IN 2. Walled Lake Central H.S., MI 3. Henry Clay H.S., KY
Outstanding Music: Goshen H.S., IN Outstanding Visual: Goshen H.S., IN Outstanding General Effect: Goshen H.S., IN
AAAA: 1. Lincoln-Way H.S., IL 2. Fishers H.S., IN 3. Centerville H.S., OH
Outstanding Music: Fishers H.S., IN Outstanding Visual: Lincoln-Way H.S., IL Outstanding General Effect: Lincoln-Way H.S., IL

I'm very tempted to make the drive to Muncie, this is an extremely competitive regional.

In tiers (alphabetical order):Centerville H.S., OH*Lincoln-Way Community H.S., IL*---------------------------Carroll H.S., INGoshen H.S., INLake Central H.S., INWalled Lake Central H.S., MI---------------------------Beechwood H.S., KYCampbell County H.S., KY*Decatur Central H.S., INHenry Clay H.S., KYLakota West H.S., OH*Rockwood Summit H.S., MOI placed Lincoln-Way with Centerville, but it's absolutely Lincoln-Way's to lose in my opinion. It's going to be a good fight for those last four spots- I think Campbell County, Decatur Central, Henry Clay and Lakota West will get them.----------------------------------------------Yeah. I wish Carroll (IN) could take a step up. I have to say I'm a little disappointed in how they've plateaued since Hassell took over. They made an immediate step up...then flatlined. And I can't figure out why. The band seems to have fantastic parent support and they've shared a lot of staff with their cross-town rival, but they can't seem to advance. I really don't get it. i dont know what you mean by Carroll they have gotten better every year...

Yeah I agree, how has Carroll flatlined? Last three years have seen them up in placements and this year has been the best Carroll by far. Sometimes programs need a few years to really start growing, just like sports you have your ups and downs.

I do agree that their show design this season is superior to what we've seen previously, but I still feel as if they have been slower to break out of the bubble band territory than I would have hoped. And in 2017 they did finish 9th, but Avon and Carmel were not there so that would have them at 11th in a normal season. I think the pieces are there (director, staff, kids, parent support) for a top 6 group in Indiana. Maybe this season.

I wonder if the scores will be higher than BOA Austin since it's a week later, or if they will be lower. I never know how to judge other contests outside of Texas, unless they contain Broken Arrow, Tarpon, Carmel or Avon!

They didn't make state finals in 2012, but they were absolutely on watch the year after. They continued to improve tremendously to the point of making the legendary 2014 Class A state finals. However, after that, they kind of stagnated as other bands in Indiana began catching up to their standard (Ben Davis, Brownsburg, Columbus North, Fishers, Goshen, etc.). Carroll didn't so much as decline so much more of improve a tiny bit in comparison to other bands leapfrogging Carroll in quality during 2015-2017. 2018 wasn't quite the "Plainfield" jump per se, but it was a noticeable improvement in quality of the show compared to the last 3 years or so. The season remains to be seen, but I think 2019 will be a bit of a different story for Carroll. I think why he and I remember those years the most was because there was considerable hype around Carroll especially after 2014*. I really can't quite say which shows from 2015-2017 could've been definitively better than 2014 (maybe 2015? definitely 2018). 2019, however, was the leap we've been waiting for since 2014. *I can't really understate how top-to-bottom stacked 2014 was (other years have come close, but no cigar). Every band that made state finals was 100% deserving.

I guess this is the forum to be on since the BOA forum shut down. In Indiana, band fans are stilling mourning the end of IM.COM. Anyway, those that who enjoyed Lake Central's rise, hopeful maintenance, and continued tradition, will probably be in a shock, as I. I saw a recent video and pretty sure only counted two snares and they looked really small.

It was a shame when he left. EDIT: Just sampled the video. Yeah, that's a tiny LC band. To think that just in the 2013/2014 time frame they were GN Finalist contenders. (Should have been in in 2013.) Their school enrollment is still over 3300 students, so it must simply be loss of interest with the director and staff changes. I hope they can turn it around and get membership back up.

My Predictions. 1 Fishers HS, IN 2 Lincoln-Way HS, IL 3 Centerville HS, OH 4 Carroll HS, IN 5 Goshen HS, IN 6 Lakota West HS, OH 7 Ben Davis HS, IN 8 Franklin Central HS, IN 9 Henry Clay HS, KY 10 Walled Lake Central HS, MI I too had WLC that low in my predictions, then remembered how well they did last year at Bowling Green. They’re always a wild card... EDIT: Also, I think Lake Central will still make finals.

Is Dave Nelson still the director at LC?? I know he has a percussion background but his writing was never very good IMO even though his theory was.
Harmon went to ld bell right? Not really seeing how that paid off for bell but what do I know... another thread perhaps

Yes, regarding color guard director left at same time. Alan Buzalski
Chris Harmon joined the staff of L.D. Bell High School as Associate Director of Bands in the summer of 2016. Prior to moving to Texas, Mr. Harmon was the Director of Bands at Lake Central High School in St. John, Indiana from 1998-2016

Those Lake Central shows in 2012 - 2014 ate some of my favorites... in fact, the 2013 show is one of my all timers and I was absolutely shocked that they didn't make finals at Grand Nats that year. When I saw them at the Brownsburg Invitational a few weeks ago I had to look at my program a couple of times to make sure it was actually Lake Central being announced onto the field... I knew they were smaller but I didn't anticipate what I saw. They looked more like the size of an ISSMA Class C band. I hope over the next few years their numbers can increase back to what they use to be.

Is horn rank not doing predictions for the other regionals this weekend...just Texas? We all know that only Texas REALLY matters! The other regionals are just so the "A" in both BOA and MFA can be justified. In reality, don't give up just yet - the predictions/previews have been a little later this year than in the past but once posted are still of the same high quality.

I have not seen, nor do I know anything about, Centerville this year. But I have seen Carroll and I'm going out on a limb and predicting Carroll to beat Centerville. You read it here. And Fishers over LincolnWay.
1. Fishers 2. Lincolnway 3. Carroll 4. Centerville

Hot Take: Fishers doesn't medal here.
Having watched Fishers live last week at their home show, I was left wanting. I'd like to be surprised and have them turn it to prove me wrong but can easily see this is 5th or even 6th at this show.
