Missed the title of Franklin Central's show: "Cirque du _____"; can anyone fill in the blank. Familiar tunes in a smoother arrangement than you usually hear. Heavy on the electric bass. Missing a closer. cirque de catrinas

Well, I like Central Crossing's "The Grid" much more than last year' offering, and in design terms, more than their show from two years ago as well. But the props don't really add anything to it, and it's pretty rough. Lots of music while playing, some decent writing and drill, but it feels like they only just finished it. Surprised that this beat Dublin Jerome a couple weeks ago.

How is the title of Fishers' show spelled? Is it "Candied Sweet"? Or "Candide Suite"? Either way, it's the best so far, although notably incomplete. It's neither. It's spelled Candide Sweet on their shirts.

Fairborn's show "3-6-5", stopped after "Autumn Leaves". And speaking of that song, let's hear some other possibilities for conveying this season. How about "September Song" by Kurt Weill? Or the Earth, Wind and Fire song "September"? Or the "Monster Mash"?

They also played "Bridge over Troubled Water". I want bands to play "Keep the Customer Satisfied" and "So Long Frank Lloyd Wright" and "The Only Living Boy in New York".

South Oldham's show is titled "Beneath the Surface". Wasn't that the title of Carolina Crown's show this year?
Anyway, the theme is underwater life. I think it would be clever for a band with this theme to play America's "Horse with no Name". They didn't.
A generally enjoyable little show. The manta ray tarp was nice.

That would be awfully obscure. I doubt many people under 50 would even get it. Of course, I would.

Lakota West was VERY solid. My favorite of the day so far.
EDIT: Saw on another forum that they almost didn’t make it because they were an hour behind due to traffic. Even more impressive! That might have been a cold run.

Lakota West's "Eccentricity" is probably the 20th show I've seen this year that features "Bohemian Rhapsody" -- and not the first one to use BR as a framework. The best example, of course, was the Reading Buccaneers "Dans ma chambre".
Two crown sets plus some backfield props that look like blue and pink crowns. Also big tarps that form an L and a W.
I wish they let some of the music play out at more length. We get a decent clarinet solo on "Festive Overture" and then 20 seconds later that song is done and they've moved on to something else.

The announcer for one of the festival bands at the Buckeye Invitational had the temerity to say that "Bohemian Rhapsody" was too difficult for most bands to manage. They were probably the fourth band to play it that day.

Centerville with yet another rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody...

Yes, two bands in a row whose music prominently features "Bohemian Rhapsody" and whose drill features a crown set.
Oh, and the second best band at the Buckeye Invitational, who will be at the Indy Super, has a similar repertoire.
Centerville's "Rhapsodic" also has fun with the color yellow. I thought they got sloppier as they went. But a Centerville show is almost always enjoyable.

Didn't Sufjan Stevens do a song about Decatur?
Edit: yes he did but that was about the town in Illinois, not this town in Indiana.

Oh that Decatur Central show is fun! It's called "Reindeer Games" and it features the best props today: housetops.
The giant jingle bell is also very nice. And the moment when half the band become reindeer is very clever!

The back of Campbell County's witch cauldron is visible from this angle, which spoils its effect. Their show is titled "Bewitched". According to their voiceover narration, it's supposed to have a "gloomy finish", but apparently that's still forthcoming. It's well done and entertaining, but the full ensemble writing seemed thin to me. I think they also had electronics issues in the beginning of their show. You’re right, ensemble sound was a little thin.

Concordia Lutheran's show is titled "How Great Thou Art". Some spread-out exposure for a small band, but in need of cleaning.

Nordonia's show is titled "The Remains of the Day".
That's the name of one of the best books written in the past 30 years, as well as the gorgeous movie that was adapted from the book.
Nordonia's show even includes a brief snippet of Anthony Hopkins saying something from the film.
But here's the thing: the point of the book and the movie is this: the main character is a butler who is so devoted to the idea of serving others that he not only fails to realize that a woman loves him dearly, and he not only fails to be present for the death of his own father, but he completely misses the fact that his boss is a Nazi collaborator.
I don't see how you can give your show that title, and explicitly link it to the film, and never touch the actual subject.
(The film also features Emma Thompson, James Fox, and Christopher Reeve, with Hugh Grant in a small part.)
That said, this has the bones of a darn good show. Unfortunately, they had a lot of small mistakes, some general sloppiness, and some amplification glitches. That closer, however, is in better shape than I would have expected, given that they didn't have it in when I saw the show two weeks ago.
Not sure they needed that giant tarp.

"Shine" is the show from Carroll [IN] and it's got some very nice G.E. generated from very simple elements. The music wasn't listed features "This Little Light of Mine", Verdi's Requiem, and, curiously enough, "Tom Sawyer" by Rush. In musical terms, Beavercreek did a nicer job with the last number in their show three years ago. But this Carroll production is otherwise notably superior to that one.

Walled Lake Central has a bunch of large backfield posters with patriotic messages. Unfortunately, right at the beginning of the show, they were caught by a wind and a bunch of them ended up in he middle of the field. After about a minute, band parents ran out to pull them off the field and lay them down. I assume they got permission from BOA to do that for safety reasons and won't incur a penalty.
