Lafayette has defeated North Hardin, KY to win KMEA AAAAA state finals each of the last two years by more than two points. Last year, North Hardin scored slightly higher than Kennesaw Mountain at Grand National semi-finals. I know it's often folly to compare judging between circuits, but I think you're going to be surprised. Not to knock on Lafayette by any means, but KMEA has almost no grounds go stand on as far as accurately ranking bands when they can't award the state title to the best band in the state in the last 4 years. I disagree, but you're not alone in that opinion. The good thing is we get to see how Kennesaw and Lafayette match up in just a few days.

Agreed... I find it doubtful KM will lose to Lafayette. They weren’t even the GN finalist level band they used to be in 2014 LOL (still don’t know how they made finals then.) but yeah they’re still good enough, I’d be surprised if they lost to Lafayette for sure. I know it's often folly to compare judging between circuits, but I think you're going to be surprised. Often state run contests yield different results than BOA, sometimes they don’t but often they do. Politics is much more prevalent in state run circuits/ contests.

Had the pleasure of seeing Estill County this past weekend. GREAT show and they will be a contender for Class A honors at the regional.

These are the things I'm looking forward to seeing Saturday. I'm not as familiar with the NC and SC bands, so I'd be interested to know what questions others hope to get answered.
1. Will Estill County or Ninety Six take class A honors?
2. Will Lafayette or Kennesaw Mountain take reserve grand champion?
3. Does Russell County have what it takes to challenge Bassett?

NC ...is Cleveland on a steady rise or will they continue to be up and down as they had been for several years. Given they beat Cary and Panther Creek last week things look good but I'd like to see the margins. NC is terrible about posting scores timely.

Who else was at the competition? Any more details?🧐

Green Hope had about a 4 point edge on Cary hence my curiosity on margins but they will compete on field in four days so I guess it doesn't much matter

The spread in that caption must’ve been big enough to give Cleveland the win. I don’t think Cleveland plays well enough yet to hang in the top 5 but I could be wrong. We’ll see this weekend... After seeing Green Hope at the Panther Creek competition, I expect them to do very well. Musically, they are incredibly strong this year, IMO. They also have a very interesting show that I think will do well in BOA this year. Looking forward to seeing how the regional plays out this weekend. Is anybody attending?

Because from what I hear it seems like they’re even stronger than last year Yes but less so because their new footprint isn't in as high a population growth area as Panther Creek so they didn't zone out as many kids. Having said that their band appeared to be maybe 135 so quite a bit smaller than recent years. I would assume that since the new school is only grades 9 and 10 that PC and GH may be smaller but maybe also musically stonger because they have a high ratio of upperclassmen. Just a guess.

I wonder if if the Bob Dylan / Old Crow Medicine Show song "Wagon Wheel" (best known in a cover version by Darius Rucker) could be adapted well to marching band.
Maybe paired up with "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" -- which had been played in drum corps if not marching band before: by the Colts just this past summer.
(Yes, I think this is on topic.)

I think both PC and GH are in their 140’s. Cary dropped to 120ish. I think all the Cary schools will be back to usual size in a couple years. This area is booming with growth.

Fort Osage H.S., MO was a no-show. Wonder if they had transportation issues?[/quolte] Yeah it seemed to be unexpected as nothing else got adjusted. Cleveland looked very solid and should be well into finals and Russell County should compete at the class level. Hard to judge music execution on the stream of course so the usual grain of salt applies.

Lafayette FINALLY with a current design after nearly two decades of sticking with late 90s designs. That was a really enjoyable show! As usual, they sounded & looked terrific, but now have a show that's interesting to watch and listen to. Welcome back to BOA, Lafayette!!!! I imagine the results will be quite favorable to them at this regional --- and I hope that causes them to stick with BOA competition. They're too good to stick in their safety zone in Kentucky for years at a time. When was the last time, a few years back when they went to STL and infamously missed Finals? I'm off to research!
Edit: unless I'm missing them somewhere (very possible), looks like 2014 was the last time they did a BOA event. Placed 19th at STL, 2 points and 5 bands outside of Finals. Quite the unexpected result for that program, and it looks like this is their first venture back into BOA in 5 years.

Very good show by Lafayette. Not saying it will happen, but if Dobyns-Bennett stays at their same strength as last year, we could see Lafayette win this one. Long shot, but very well could happen. I can't see that at all. The guard programs are not even remotely comparable. And that matters.

Yeah...that's a stretch lol Could definitely be heading home with a medal tonight, but unless D-B is way (WAY) down, this'll be a clean sweep
