This finals lineup could be as competitive as this year, and semifinals even deeper. Just when we thought GN was crazy enough...

Holy smokes. Semifinals was incredible this year, but next year is seeming to be having more depth already. And finals seems like it’s going to be tougher to get in.
The big names that stand out to me:
Ronald Reagan Broken Arrow Avon Carmel Vista Ridge Tarpon Springs Blue Springs William Mason
And then you have all of these other potential finalists: (!!!)
Cedar Park, Wando, Dobyns-Bennett, Homestead, Pearland, Vista Murrieta, Castle, Owasso, Fishers, Lawrence Township, Jenks, O’Fallon Township, Marian Catholic...just to name a few

Throw Westwood on the buzz list. Probably won’t happen this year but their directors were sighted at GN.

So here’s the thing about the Wando “split.”
1. The new school will open with only grades 9 and 10, adding an additional class the following two years,
2. Wando currently has 4300 students. At full capacity - in four years - the new high school will have 1450. By that time, Wando, situated in a high growth area, will have already recouped as many as 400 of the loss. This growth trend will continue indefinitely.
3. The BIG point. Cario Middle, by far the largest feeder in the band program and arguably the strongest middle school band program in South Carolina, remains in Wando’s attendance zone.

A director from Panther Creek mentioned to me that it's possible all 4 of the Cary schools attend next year (Cary, Green Hope, Green Level, Panther Creek)

When was the last time any of the Pittsburgh schools attended. Norwin, Kiski, etc. Would be interesting to see how they would do here. Norwin has had a large contingent of students volunteering at GN each of the past (at least) three years. Time for them to come for the other side of the show.

I've heard rumors of Cedar Ridge. Anyone else have any input on that?

I have not heard anything about Cedar Ridge at all. It's not marked on their band calendar for next year even though they have all their other competitions there already. What I have heard on Txbands is Westwood possibly attending in 21, another RRISD band.

Bentonville is a possibility (last known to me, they are every other year (so they're due)) Also way too early prediction that if they go, Bentonville will get 15th

Some notes regarding some midwest bands:
- Bellevue West (NE) returns to Grand Nats on their every 4 year rotation. They made semifinals in 2012 & 2016, but their recent dropoff could put that streak in jeporady
- Rosemount (MN) will be coming to Grand Nats for what I believe is their first time ever. I can't wait to see how they'll do, and they should have no trouble making semis. However in exchange for doing Grand Nats, Rosemount will likely be forgoing the St. Louis Super Regional & the Indianapolis Super Regional to do more local competitions (though should BOA still have the Northern Iowa regional next year, they'll certainly attend)
- Broken Arrow (OK) has also been invited to the 2021 Rose Parade. I can't see them skipping Grand Nationals 2 years in a row, so this sets up a 2012-esque scenario where they might skip St. Louis in favor of Grand Nationals.
- With their participation in the 2020 Macy's Parades, it is unlikely that we'll see Union (OK) or Lincoln-Way (IL) at Grant Nats next year,
- Hopefully we'll see some more great midwest programs. I, personally, would love to see Camdenton (MO) in attendance next year.

We should also expect Miamisburg to place 4th or maybe medal.

Hopefully Lafayette (KY) will make the trip. With their success at the Johnson Regional, I hope they would be inclined to!

Also was 3rd place while Vandi was 2nd place in the 2019 San Antonio BOA.

As an above poster stated, they were right behind our current G-Nats Champion at SA. Especially putting them below CP, who missed finals there. Both great programs and again, I’m rooting for TX!

I know Leander ISD as a whole is more middle class to upper middle class, but after a little research it looks like Vandegrift draws almost exclusively from upper middle class & wealthy neighborhoods. It looks like the pockets of the families are deep enough to attend again; any chance the directors would want to come back to defend their title? GN is two weeks after UIL again next year, and their show design this year would EASILY be satisfying enough to UIL standards to crown them king there as well, so they wouldn't need to worry about a UIL-focused show. I'd be thrilled to see them attend again to defend their championship. It would be the first time an out of state band came back to defend since BA '11-'12. Before that it would have been Bell '07-'08. I'm sure it won't happen, but a guy can dream!

It's very unlikely they would approve. Plus, bands only get one out of state trip every other school year.

As a current senior from Lockport Township, the program may not be returning for Nationals this coming year. Conversing with my directors earlier this week, we all feel regret not attending this year as we held pace with Lincolnway at the end of the season along with beating Fishers at Indy Super and not placing too far behind Homestead. An option being talked about might be saving the money from a Nationals visit to dump into a big 2021 show.
Again this is all early speculation but we had a band-wide talk before Indy Super talking about the possibity as well in some detail, so take everything I say how you will.

That is good to know. I can say for us it was pricey to get our kiddo there for this last competition but she loved it so it was worth it. Too bad Cedar Park didn't go this year. I enjoyed their show alot. I also enjoyed Rouse's show this year. (except for the VERY loud whistles.)
