A: 1) Newberry H.S., FL
AA: 1) Tarpon Springs H.S., FL
AAA: 1) Seminole H.S., FL 2) Cleveland H.S., NC 3) Braden River H.S., FL

Since Tarpon Springs won this contest last year, they would normally take the last prelims spot (if they so choose, of course). Did they swap with Broken Arrow?

Tarpon Springs may well have requested the last spot in the opening block to allow for some extra afternoon rehearsal time between prelims and finals. Or they may have just wanted to give the students an opportunity to relax and enjoy watching Broken Arrow perform (hoping that BA would get a performance time that permitted this).

Or they may have just wanted to give the students an opportunity to relax and enjoy watching Broken Arrow perform (hoping that BA would get a performance time that permitted this). Knowing Tarpon, they will probably be rehearsing somewhere before finals in the afternoon. It is amazing how much a strong group can accomplish in even a short rehearsal time. I got a real sense of that on Labor Day weekend this year at the DCA championships.
Normally that event consists of a Prelims round starting at about 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, and then a Finals round starting at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday. As I understand it, the corps tend to arrive late on Friday --when a number of their members might participate in the Individual & Ensemble competitions-- and then rehearse during the day on Saturday and Sunday.
This year, because heavy rain and/or storms were forecast for Sunday, DCA made the decision on Thursday to hold both rounds on Saturday: the Prelims at 10 a.m. and the Finals at 6 p.m.
That meant basically no rehearsal time before Prelims and only a few hours before Finals.
But what a difference those few hours made! After the Prelims round, I felt I had seen the weakest lineup in seven straight years of attending championships. But almost every corps was astonishingly better in the evening. They knew what they needed to fix and got it done.

I see it more like:
Broken Arrow
Tarpon Springs
Everyone Else
Although Wando and Park Vista are both formidable and could surprise with a finish above Tarpon. I don't see a scenario where Broken Arrow loses this regional.

I don't see a scenario where Broken Arrow loses this regional. I can certainly understand your opinion about BA winning here. We are also talking about bands 4-6 place at last years finals so for all intensive opinions they’re pretty close. This is also Wando’s final season before their schools split so they may have a little extra drive to finish at a higher place.

When was the last time BA did a regional in mid October? I dont think they are a guaranteed win but they are the best bet. Tarpon has their show fully on the field by the first weekend in October (Seminole sound competition). Broken Arrow usually keeps changing theirs till the end of the season so who knows what they will bring.

I know BA is ahead of their usual schedule, likely because of their short season. I know they had the ballad on the field about 2 weeks ago. I'm sure they'll have some sort of closer on, but doubt it will be the exact same as what we see in STL.

Still have only seen very little of it

Having looked at the recaps from the competitions in Florida this weekend (the FMBC website for those interested) this looks like its going to be a great competition. May be some surprises to people not familiar with Florida and its somewhat unpredictable marching groups. Tarpon will lead the Florida pack but after that who knows. Obviously you cant compare scores but seeing a lot of 80 plus point (or close to it) groups in a system that's not too inconsistent scoring wise tells me next Saturday should be fun. I plan to be there and hopefully can add my personal thoughts here.

Slight update. JP Taravella has pulled out of the regional. The schedule is otherwise the same, with Park Vista beginning the last prelims block at 3:00.
