Park Vista outstanding band as always. Soloist needs to sing less from her chest it comes out very airy also some work tuning her voice and volume hope the vocals get some fix by Grand Nats but overall a nice show.

TIMBER CREEK! How on earth did you clean that show to this level so early in the season?? Did you start in January? They sounded FANTASTIC! A challenging music book that was full of exposure and melodic lines in the winds that rose & fell organically. Loved it. I'd legit have them over Tarpon & Park Vista in music ensemble. That was insanely surprising. To be frank, I'm not used to hearing that depth of musicality and nuance out of Florida groups...aggressiveness & relentlessness, sure, but that performance was full of some serious musical shaping and varied textures. What a skilled group they've got this year!! Come up to GN sometime??

I would not be at all surprised to see them finish ahead of Park Vista.

Wando with no electronics Yeah, that's really unfortunate. But the band is completely unfazed and performing like a medalist.

Wando's English Horn soloist is also a mellophone player. Pulling double duty on two difficult instruments to master!

WEAPONS AGAIN THIS YEAR!! Thank you, BA! Finally! It just wouldn't be a wild west show without a riffle! I like BA's show. Its fun and has some great music! Definitely a departure from their typical show design though. High brass seem to be a lot messier than I remember in the past, but overall it was a good performance. I'm sad we won't be seeing (or hearing ) YEEEHAAAWWW at Grand Nationals.

Cutesy like this year, and whatever you want to call last year...nah.

I don't know, I think I really enjoyed it!!!! I thought it was a blast, and that's definitely not my wheelhouse for show design, but they sold the hell out of it and played some INCREDIBLY difficult, exposed stuff very well. I thought they were heads & shoulders above everyone else in the field today. That was a meaty, difficult book full of notes and they executed at an exceptionally high level for early October!

I wish they would’ve leaned farther into the concept. It’s more like “yee haw” rather than “Yee Haw!”. Meh.

Amazing BA! YEE HAW! Loved that they played a little Oklahoma! at the end there. The choreography was great too.

Allohak & srv1084, I totally get you both; dark & bizarre is my preferred aesthetic over corny, and I absolutely did not care for last year's glurge of syrupy sticky patriotism, but I have to commend BA for stepping outside of their design standard! I wish others would take a cue and reinvent themselves a bit or expand their design style...stale certainly isn't a word that can be used for BA, whereas I feel the term could potentially be applied to a certain other GN champion in attendance today.

I thought BA's show was really fun! Definitely not what I was expecting from them but my favorite of the day so far. But I can't help but think of that girl on My Strange Addiction that is addicted to being a pony.

That wraps it up! This is the first Prelims contest I've gotten to watch from start to finish this year. In my mind:
BA light years beyond the competition.
Wando in a pretty clear second, at least in my mind, although I doubt a sweep of 2nd in captions all around.
Tarpon/Timber Creek/Park Vista rounding out the top 5, with my bet going to Tarpon as the other medalist and the top of this pack, although I'd like to see Timber Creek beat both in music.
Stoneman, Brownsburg, & Cypress Creek seem like clear locks to me. Maybe any of the three could slip into the top half, who knows. But I don't see any of them out.
Windermere feels like the safest of the bubbles in my mind.
A bevy of bands for the last spot; a lot of really impressive performances today. My most likelies are Seminole, Nease, Newsome, & Oviedo, although I thought East River, University, Braden River, & Gainesville all gave solid performances as well. I wouldn't be surprised to hear any of the 8 called, nor to see any of them not make it.

BA was still BA but i too dislike the theme choices as of the last 2 years. I wonder if someone took exception to what they were doing before and said something and this is the result. That being said they executed wonderfully and i enjoyed it anyway. Most likely winner for me. And they had to do rifles or its not western lol

Yep. That's why I've been a fan of BA since about 2007. Always thinking outside the box and they aren't afraid to take chances.

Chuck announced Windermere not Gainesville. Didnt hear any AAA groups called and he summoned the AAA champ director for exhibition. Is that a first to have no AAA in finals?
