Another year for indoor percussion! Noticed there hadn't been a thread yet so as an avid fan I gave it some love and made a thread! So, any predictions for how good each group will do, any new groups that will catch your interest? Leave it down below!

So, any predictions for how good each group will do, any new groups that will catch your interest? Leave it down below! After winning Concert World and not having an indoor season, I'm ready to see if Fishers is ready to progress even further with their indoor show. Not sure if it'll be easy to maintain status as the world champion in concert while aiming for a higher position in indoor, but who knows? Maybe we'll see a double champion in the future.

Personally, I'm not too invested in the concert side myself, but I to like to look at concert shows every once in a while. I had seen Fishers' last indoor marching show at Dayton finals and liked it a lot. We could look forward to a double champion soon enough, but I believe it could probably be Ayala that would do it if they do both this next year. That's just what I think though.

One thing I'll be very interested in is the DFW regional this year. This year, the roster shows 4 different Scholastic Marching World Class groups, those being Burleson Centennial, Azle, Timber Creek, and Union, the last 2 of which are doing world for the first time. I'm very excited to see what will go down as they had a spectacular season in Open Class this past year, and also as I am marching with Timber Creek myself this year.

Yeah so world class seems to be interesting
Timber Creek - 74.200 Azle - 65.900
Makes NTCA Burleson more interesting as Timber Creek will go against Burleson Centennial for the first time in 2 weeks. Can't wait to see how that goes!

Tuned in for Scholastic World in Temecula. Chino Hills was very good as always, but their shows really always struggle to interest me. Hopefully that will change when I see them again on Flo this year. I really enjoyed Vista Murrieta's show. They seemed quite clean and had an intriguing design. Sunny Hills first part of their show was very good, but the back half lost me. Should be interesting to see if VM can get close to Chino after prelims.

There was a point in time when I was excited to see Chino Hills more than most other groups, but there's nothing especially fresh about some of their recent offerings. They've become a bit predictable. Vista Murrieta has been a recent discovery for me, but I loved them last year and same this year. Sunny Hills was also very intriguing but I'm curious to see what the full show looks like. PIW was a bit sterile to me, to be honest. I'm curious to see what some other groups are bringing this year. Have seen videos of George Mason, Stryke, and Infinity and I'm very curious to see how those shows develop.

I'm gonna try to catch them tomorrow, along with RCC and POW. I checked and saw that VM isn't going to championships, which disappointed me, but great show nonetheless. On the score side. VM within 2.5 of Chino Hills which I would say is good for both sides. But really, CHINO HILLS IS AT AN 86 IN FEBRUARY. That is a great score that just shows they'll be the favorite to win in Dayton once again. Pulse being almost 2 points ahead of RCC bears well for them.

Pulse was definitely the most polished all around in PIW. The modular props added some visual intrigue when moved around. All the pieces fitting into place in circular forms provides a great visual representation of the theme without being too cliche. What's cool is that one of the main pieces they're using is something Mapes wrote as a solo acoustic guitar song a while back. Yeah, I'm disappointed VM isn't going to finals, too. I thought for sure they'd come this year after how amazing they were last year, finishing ahead of Ayala and Etiwanda at SC-PA finals. The combination of Mike Jackson and Kevin Shah has worked very well with Broken City and Blue Knights, and now also at Vista Murrieta. But Vista Murrieta is a very distinct style from Broken City, which shows their range. I recommend checking out their 2019 show. There's a video out there somewhere. Love how they infused some Olafur Arnalds into their production. It's funny... some of my favorite groups/shows don't even end up making it to Dayton. Last year I also loved Rowland and Diamond Bar's shows. Both very creative and with some great music choices (Rowland in particular with Lewis Capaldi's "Bruises"). Both also available to watch online.

I didn't get to tune in to Temecula since my school had it's own competition yesterday (against none other than Burleson Centennial... woo, at least Timber Creek won in music against them) and I just went through what I could find, a lot of these shows are impressive in their own right, also Dartmouth scored an 86.65 at their local competition last night as well so the Dayton competition could be tighter than expected this year

I still love Vista Murrieta. That show is awesome! Chino Hills interested me a little more today. I really want to know what the basis of that show is though. And I love the way they use the wall/cage like things.

I think POW was my favorite PIW group. I love what they do with the mirrors and when they split the battery in half. That's cool. RCC had a really short show and I couldn't pull much from them. Pulse was definitely the best of the group, with some amazing theatrics throughout. That will probably be my favorite by Dayton!

One thing I'm looking forward to is seeing how Union HS is going to do at their first competition this weekend, since they moved up to World Class along with Timber Creek this year, and they haven't performed yet at all this season. It would be good to see how they fit in before seeing Union with the North Texas groups in Dallas next weekend.

Reporting from WGI Houston, it's been interesting so far.
- Keller Central moved to Open Class after Prelims
- North Shore did a no show
- Cy-Fair beat Clear Brook in prelims by over a point
Yeah, it's fun.

Dear Clear Brook HS Educators:
You've proven that you can win a medal in Scholastic Open for each of the last three years, and four of the last five year, including one year where you showed up to Dayton with the exact same show as your prior non-Dayton year (a move reminiscent of SCV 1989's Phantom of the Opera show).
Why on Earth would you not challenge your kids to perform in World Class, the highest level of competition? What exactly do you have left to prove in Scholastic Open? Do you just feel better arriving back in Friendswood with a medal every time you perform? I simply don't understand why you wouldn't try to progress up the ranks to the highest level of competition, especially with a program size that's not exactly struggling to fill spots.
Same can be said for the Norwalk, Old Bridge, and Trumbull HS's of the world, who have been in Scholastic Open finals for 10+ years running. What is there left to accomplish?

Like recent years, the fight for the top and fight for the finals bubble in PIW are both going to be incredibly rough. Rhythm X and MCM have once again created some impressive shows that will match up nicely with the California Three. Rhythm X has room to grow/clean to pass MCM from what I can see. The rest of the groups today will most definitely be fighting for finals spots once again.

WGI Dallas is going to be very intense this mext weekend in world class. Every school in my opinion actually has a chance at winning it, any thoughts on this competition?

Looking at the roster now, Norwalk HS has backed out of Dayton, out of what I got, looks like the administration had shut down Norwalk's music program because of the Coronavirus ordeal. I feel bad for those kids.

Well that was quick. Dartmouth has a habit of "policing" all their videos on Youtube, but usually leave them up after finals. Guess they don't want anybody to enjoy the show.

Did Freedom ever perform in uniform? If so, does anyone have a video? All I’ve seen is Chicago and I didn’t get to make it to a performance before they were all cancelled.
