Barring any surprises, this regional should go to Dobyns-Bennett. However, the rest of the finals placement is gonna be a bloodbath. The way I see it, any of these bands could come 2nd: Bassett, VA Cary Senior, NC Cleveland, NC Green Hope, NC James Madison, VA Panther Creek, NC Thomas Jefferson, VA Seminole, FL Hickory, VA
This will be an exciting regional!

Based on yesterday's performances, Seminole looks like they will either be in the bottom 5 of finals or not be in at all. Dobyns-Bennett should still win this regional, although I would not be surprised if they lost a caption (or even two...). That being said, I also wouldn't be surprised if they did a clean sweep Predictions: 1. Dobyns-Bennett 2. James Madison 3. Green Hope 4. Cleveland 5. Panther Creek 6. Bassett 7. Thomas Jefferson 8. Cary 9. John Champe 10. Hickory Other potential finalists: Seminole, Freedom, Rock Ridge, Dominion, probably some bands outside of VA I'm not familiar with could surprise us as well

Based on what I saw yesterday on the ground in Johnson City...
Dobyns-Bennett is the clear winner. Nobody will beat them in any subcaption. They might break 90 at this competition.
After that, Madison, Green Hope are contenders for a medal. The rest is a total crap shoot. I agree with secret's list of finalists except that I don't agree with the order and I see Seminole in over John Champe. Hickory will be in.
Given Bassett's momentum right now and their ensemble vs individual scores, I would not count them out of being a medalist just yet.

I could also 100% see Seminole in, but I don't think that Hickory is as strong as other people think they are.

DB can take it all, I just think yesterday we were seeing an unpolished very difficult show they are still struggling with that isn’t GE loaded because they’re not going to GN. Reminds me of Paradisum in 17’ it took a while to clean that beast - nevertheless Lafayette was excellent too. I didn’t catch Cleveland but Bassett’s show package was very good. I think if they can clean it they’ll be well on their way to a higher placement- still would have had them over Mooresville and Cleveland.. Green Hope was great yesterday! They’ve had weird histories as far as their season trajectory goes but I could see them medaling if yesterday was any indication. Madison is very good too but I’m not personally a huge fan of their design rn.

I don't see Bassett taking down Cleveland, who has some really nice playing on the move and some excellent woodwind work. Brass and perc may hold them back but they were just the tiniest notch behind green hope both rounds and I could see it flipping. I am happy for Mooresville and they had a few really neat flourishes in their show but I confess I'm at a bit of a loss as to their scoring. Whether it be big band bias or whether those flourishes stuck in the judges minds, I don't know. But I'd have had them 9th or 10th with Kell and a clear notch lower than White Knoll. Their show just wasn't at the same level. Reminds me a bit of JP Stevens sudden scoring ascension last year in Delaware.

Honestly, I saw AK on the ground and I thought they were pretty good. I preferred their show to Mooresville....
EDIT: also, it's weird that now Kell refers to Ardrey Kell instead of Carleton J. Kell. My how things have changed in this region in the last ten years!

My how things have changed in this region in the last ten years! They really stopped being relevant the moment after David McGrath left for Kennesaw Mountain in 2011. But it’s really something! That’s good to hear about Kell... haha

Local NC competition this weekend, Panther Creek and Green Hope bailed on the Western Carolina show (due to rain it was going to be held indoor, DB also bailed) and came to this local competition. There was rain at the competition but not directly on any of these bands. Panther Creek and Green Hope performed before the rain, Cary Sr. and Cleveland after the rain stopped.
5A results: 1. Cleveland (Guard, GE, Percussion, Music)
2. Cary Sr. (Visual)
3. Green Hope 4. Panther Creek
Cleveland show was amazing, the soloists and small ensembles were extremely good. They also have a guy in the guard who did tosses one after the other, not a single drop. The theme is Bonnie and Clyde, and the show is really entertaining, the audience got into the whole story. I could easily see them 3rd at the Lynchburg competition. It will be interesting how they score as a group at a BOA event.

The timeslotting here throws the outcome into question as a barometer I have to think as Cary has not been close to GH or PC in earlier competitions. Based on these results I think this has likely no predictive value but I have seen Cleveland and absolutely agree with your assessment.

Agreed, this won't indicate results next week, except for Cleveland. Both Panther Creek and Green Hope have scored higher than Cary Sr. at other local events, by a few points. I won't be able to attend Lynchburg but very curious how they score.

I think the real interesting outcomes will be the 2-7 placements. Somebody not used to medaling outside of Delaware ( I believe Cleveland, Green Hope and Madison all have one or more there) is likely to get a medal today.

Anybody seeing this one? I've seen some finalist contenders....
Thomas Jefferson clean in all respects, show a little too hokey for me.
Cary, nice show, good visuals, musically not as strong.
Panther Creek real strong musically and I like the show design. Some shaky execution at times.
Dobyns is pretty good.
No real surprises so far.

Will be interesting to see how boiling springs scores. They have a really nice sound but their drill is just soooo slow moving that I can't imagine the visual scores doing them any favors.

I think Green Hope had the most complete performance of the day hands down, non Dobyns division.
Madison and Cleveland still to come.

How much value is placed on difficulty? I think Madison sounded great but Cleveland and Green Hope had substantially more complex shows. I see these as the 2-4 bands but on TV I'm sure I've missed things.

I know demand is a component of the adjudication handbook but it comes down to the weighting in the eyes of given judges.
