Last year Byrnes scored an 84.5 at BOA powder springs, 82.95 at Grand Nationals in 2017, 83.35 in 2016 at Grand nationals. I would say that I am correct in the fact that Harrison has consistently scored higher.

The only major band who has competed with Harrison is Nation Ford and that was over two weeks ago. Nation Ford managed to beat them by a large margin in music tie in visual and Harrison handily took GE. I don’t think either had their full show in the field. Nation Ford hasn’t lost music yet this season and likely won’t. Their show was very safely designed for SC state comp. With that said that was a while ago and tbh from what little I’ve seen of Harrison they seemed the strongest they’ve ever been since 2015. Byrnes has a GREAT show this year though I could see them winning too. But if I had to put my money down right now I’d go Harrison because of GE. Have you seen Harrison, Walton, or Byrnes this year? If so, where have you seen them?

Harrison certainly had a few down years 2016,17, kind of 18. They were smart to not go to GN those years. I think they finally are back to a higher level this year

Forget scores what have scores ever done for anyone. All scoring is, is a quantitative comparison among bands. Very this. 1st place with a 25 is still 1st place. “Rank —> Spread —> Range” should be the order of priority for judges.

Comparing scores from different competitions and years is never a reliable way to go with things. Byrnes scoring *insert score here* at a Grand Nationals that Harrison didn't go to means nothing. And bands can change from year to year very drastically. Anyways... this is going to be a very interesting competition, especially with the rain in the forecast

Last year at Powder Springs Harrison (87.40) beat Byrnes (84.50) by less than 3 points on a year that Byrnes was not attending Grand Nats, pretty sure the show last year was designed to win State, which they did. They beat Nation Ford by almost 5 points at state if I remember correctly.
Not saying Byrnes will beat Harrison, but this years show is certainly way different than last!

The general effect of Byrnes show is astounding, seeing that pinball go is crazy.. let me know what you think

Byrnes has an amazing show period. They must be great at policing the internet because the video that was up of them on YouTube is now gone but those props were crazy! I mean, I'm just a band mom but the whole pinball thing is awesome. When I saw it the closer wasn't finished so I can only imagine how great it looks now. I think it is amazing how hard every kid in every band works!
I don't have a dog in this fight but I find it hard to believe anyone at Powder Springs will beat Byrnes this go round!

So I think it's safe to say that Byrnes has been doing pretty well.. but proof will be in the pudding tomorrow night.

Nation Ford seems to be a little polarizing scorewise over the last several years. They've had some awesome placements in regionals then fallen short of expectations at Nationals. Maybe that's just my memory failing me.

Also, Jackson County had a fine performance this morning. I don’t think they are quite semis-caliber for Grand Nats just yet, but they will definitely place respectably for a first-year outing up there.

Extremely Unfortunate series of events for Hillgrove. They had 8 set pieces in the back of the field, and about halfway through 4 of them either got pushed/blew over and look like they were damaged pretty badly. Boosters had to push all 8 to the back sideline and drag the fallen ones off. Despite this, great performance by the kids. Agreed. My heart broke for them.

Also, it is no surprise, but I got word that BOA has every intent to cancel finals due to the incoming inclement weather. They are right now just trying to get everyone a prelims performance. Weather looks okay for now, though, other than the wind.

Watched a lot of this contest. It’s almost over, but so far, Sparkman, Hillgrove (despite some wind & prop disasters), Fayetteville, Walton, Milton, Kell, Mill Creek, James F. Byrnes and Green Hope all had mighty fine performances. IF finals happens (it’s not looking likely), I think we will see all or most of them perform tonight. And we still have Hoover and Harrison...

I feel so sorry for Byrnes as well as their pinball machine sound effects did not work. These effects significantly compliment their GE package, and without them, things did not connect. They sounded great, however!

They sounded great, however! I thought something was off. Regardless, they still turned it. Hoping it won’t affect their prelims placement too much as that’s likely all they’re going to get...
