Finals is still full draw, right? No top/bottom 7? OTTOMH, that sounds correct EDIT: OTTOMH was wrong

This is the first year of using the 2 panel system instead of by-day system at Supers, unless I'm misremembering

It is Top 7/Bottom 7
9.03 Immediately following the announcement of Finalist Bands, a required meeting for the Director or representative(s) of each Band competing and exhibiting in Finals will be held in an area designated at each site. It is encouraged to bring Drum Majors, as logistics for Finale will be discussed (14.02). The performance schedule will be finalized based on a pre-draw conducted at the Band Check-in process prior to Preliminary Performances. The top 7 scoring Bands from Prelims will be assigned the last 7 performance times in numerical order according to the pre-draw. The next 7 will be assigned the first 7 performance times in numerical order according to the pre-draw.

2019 Rulebook says it's top/bottom draw for Super Regionals. Relevant sections: 9.01 Following the presentation of Preliminary Class Awards, fourteen (14) Bands, regardless of classification, will advance to Finals and will be announced in random order. For determining the Finals Competition, - the five (5) highest scoring Bands in each Prelim panel (10 total), regardless of class, will advance;
- the next four (4) highest scoring bands determined from a combination of remaining scores from Prelims 1 and 2, regardless of class, will advance.
- When bands achieve the same (tie) score in Prelims, and when such score causes a placement tie for the last position advancing to the Finals competition, each band with the tied score will advance.
The panel of judges for Finals will be comprised of a combination of adjudicators from both Prelims panels. The Finals competition will be devoid of any classes 9.03 Immediately following the announcement of Finalist Bands, a required meeting for the Director or representative(s) of each Band competing and exhibiting in Finals will be held in an area designated at each site. Is there a chance that Granite City can sneak into finals? You must go there. It’s gonna be a tough one to sneak in to. For a LOT of good groups.

I probably wouldn’t have remembered it either except for the huge fuss the new system caused in the 2018 San Antonio thread in TXBands.

I’m a leader in the Granite program and this is our first year attending and many of us are hoping that we can play out of our minds and sneak into finals, we’ve won grand champ at U of I the past two years if that can give you and idea of our program level. We don’t have the budget to really compete for a high spot.

Top 7 bottom 7 (or 6) started at least by 2016 for supers and grand nationals. I think prior it was only in place for regionals right?? Which would have been top 5 bottom 5.
It still is random draw at check in like how it’s been for a while but even if your draw the absolute last spot at check in but place in the lower HALF you will be performing last of the bottom half.
Honestly I’m not a fan because judges use it to their advantage in finals - your rarely see movement across from 6th to 5th (10) or 7th to 6th (12) or 8th to 7th (14)
Look at Dallas this last weekend:
Prelims: 5th Keller 81.45 Coppell 6th 81.35 (.10 difference) Vs. finals Finals: 5th Bell 82.35 Wakeland 79.00 (2.35 difference)
🧐
There are exceptions but it’s been rare.
I believe it was after the great BA / Hebron debacle in 2015.

Is it just me or is it really funny that Broken Arrow's show is entitled "Yee Haw" when a lot of Texas bands are coming to this competition?

Can anyone tell us what to expect from Grain Valley this season? They seemed to weather their director change pretty well last year, but many times the year after can just be residual smoothness from what the previous great director had set up during his/her stint there....I always feel like it's the year AFTER the year after the director leaves that you really see if the program continues to thrive or not (see: Hendrickson this year).
