Rumors are flying right now that DCI has cancelled all of their events for this summer. Hearing an announcement may come as soon as tomorrow. Not sure I trust my source.
Anyone hearing anything?

I've been watching the DCP Forums, angry bunch that they are. I can't see any way there will be a 2020 season. Just none.

I'm not seeing an official announcement yet, but it sure sounds like the 2020 season will be officially cancelled. This is hardly a surprise.

It's pretty much a forgone conclusion. All of my friends (designers, marchers, etc.) are changing their profile/cover photos to pictures of their corps. The real question is: how many corps will not be fielding in 2021?

So, for someone like me who has no clue about the financial aspect of maintaining a corps, I take it that they somehow lose money by not touring? Is it the loss of contract fees from members? Mechandise sales?

But also now everyone should do a show reveal Doubtful. Many corps may use the same concept.

Well, there it is.
I know so many first-year members who are heartbroken (I was hoping to be one of them). They need so much support right now, so if you know a member, technician, or anyone behind the scenes, be with them and keep them in your thoughts.

This was the right call to make all along.
In another world, we'd deal with this like we did with SARS, Ebola, H1N1, etc. and our lives would go on happily. However, the reality is that this is not that world and any selfish desires we have to push on with anything we want matters extremely less than the lives we could save, whether those are impacted by the coronavirus, economy, social distancing, etc. All of this now is to protect the future where DCI can have a total unbroken streak of 50 hosted championships in a row.
I can't say I completely understand the feeling of missing out on a year of marching, but I sympathize with how much this pandemic has wrecked all of our lives in so many ways. This is such a tumultuous, unforseen, and sad moment that we are going through right now.
I can only say to hold on a bit longer, because there is a light at the end of tunnel, no matter how far. I will help you hold on- just PM me if you want to talk or anything else.

All because some dude halfway around the globe (or plate, if you're a flat earther) decided to eat a bat for lunch one day. What a time.

Hard to say, but there certainly are plenty of scenarios where that could happen. The current situation could drag on far enough into the summer such that programs scrap serious competitive seasons. Or, it could fade out as the weather warms, but comes back around in the fall forcing the same sort of cancellations that we're seeing now. Honestly, I'm having a hard time seeing any sort of normal BOA season coming off in 2020, but maybe things will take a surprising turn for the better.

So I guess the Blue Devils will not be able to make win number 20 in 2020. Bummer.
In all seriousness, I feel for all the students during this time. Yes, 2020 is going to be a painful year. Hoping 2021 will be the year of the comebacks.
Stay safe and keep your distance from people so we can stop the spread.

this will be historical indeed!
Band kiddos, I challenge you all to keep a journal of every day of this current world situation. Something you can look back on one day and share with your kiddos and grandchildren. Maybe even keep some materials that have to do with the coronavirus. Print memos from the school. Photo some of your zoom classes and print those. (okay I know people know how to do this, right? Hit the "print screen" button on your keyboard. Open up Paint on your laptop. Select "paste" after opening up a new project in Paint. Voila!)
These are remarkable times and they need to be documented in even the simplest of ways. Write down your feelings, your experiences, etc. Then keep it safe for future generations to learn from.
Love you all!!! HOLD TIGHT...we will get through this!

Young people today are likely irritated by the inconvenience of all of this (as are we all) but the significance is likely not really registering today. My mother is 87 years old. The other day on the phone she told me that she's never lived through anything like this. (An aside, her grandmother died in the Spanish Flu in 1918.) This is (hopefully) a once in a lifetime event. You're right. This is a time that will seen as a fascinating point in history.

Well that sucks. I did a whole Pangolin shoulder on the smoker on Saturday. Jamison Meats was having a special. A little chewy. Would not recommend.
