Drop: Seven Lakes H.S., TX Due to a schedule conflict with a Saturday football game. Similar situation to the TWHS BOA Conroe situation last year. Hope they can get something worked out with the school board. So disappointed for those kids. Really disappointing... I'd be happy to write a letter or sign a petition if people are pushing for it. TWHS did get what they wanted last year, but with new administration there was a little bit of a "pushed into it" vibe going around and we are crossing fingers that this year doesn't have any conflicts that have to be resolved and we can work on a better rapport between administration and band parents.

Vista Murrieta going to SA is now officially official based off of their IG story last night. Well that's exciting! I wonder if a strong California band can break through that WALL of finalist-tier Texas bands? Here they are this past season for reference: I'm not sure they have enough of a full band sound, but visually they move more like Florida/Indiana bands, which will make them stand out! Vista Murrieta almost made Grand Nationals Finals in 2016 in a very competitive field. They're definitely in the running if they can reliably hang with or beat Ayala during the 2019 season.

Nice opening hit! Man I’m excited that they are coming to San Antonio Super. How awesome is it that we are beginning to see more of the top tier bands headed to Texas?! I think we are going to see more and more of this trend in the coming years.

I heard through the grapevine that Rosie Queen is now working with Ayala, so that'll be interesting to watch. *%*%*%*%*%* i completely expect to hear that Mrs. Queen will be working with at least one California group if not more. And it certainly wouldn’t be surprising to find out its Ayala. I’m happy for them if it’s true!

I would be very surprised to see VM finish outside of the 10-20 range. I think they will most likely barely miss out on finals, but it should be a really good contest!

With how insanely competitive the SR has been getting the past few years, I wouldn't say it's completely out of the question to see them placing as low as top 25. More and more groups show up every year and they all seem to only be getting better.

Y’all are making me a little nervous for 2019! How much harder will it be this year to make finals at San Antonio as opposed to previous years?

Y’all are making me a little nervous for 2019! How much harder will it be this year to make finals at San Antonio as opposed to previous years? Quite honestly, the best answer I can think of to this question is... "Yes." It gets harder and harder every year to make finals at San Antonio, and I would add most of the other BOA regionals as well. Bands are getting better and more competitive with every passing year as the bar is raised higher and higher in design and execution.

Interesting development in the fact that Vista Ridge no longer has BOA San Antonio on their calendar, instead having a "Bi-Week" on that Friday. Something else that is of interest is the fact that have added in 5A area and state onto their calendar. Realignment and reclassification in Texas only happen every other year, so this would be a very out of the norm drop. Even my friends at VR don't know exactly what this means. Drop to 5A? Possible saving of money for a Nats trip? Only time will tell.

Apparently that’s not the case given recent information from someone who can view the private calendar.

Thought it was legit considering a VR student was who told me about it in the first place. Edit: obligatory "good thing I switched out of my journalism major" joke

Three out of staters so far. Is this a new record for most out of state bands at San Antonio?

If Vista Murrieta has a show like that 2016 show, they have a real shot at finals. I see them in the 12-20th range.
