Add:
Johnson H.S., TX
This is a brand new school opening up in Buda, same district as Lehman and Jack C. Hays. Could we see another Weiss phenomenon?

that feeling when San Antonio has 9 more bands signed up for it than Grand Nats...

As usual, an excellent list!!!!
Every year, it seems like 2-3 big name bands sit out of San Antonio, making it just a few bands short of literally hosting the top 50ish bands in Texas on any given year. Last year, Dripping Springs, Cy-Fair, Cypress Falls, Brazoswood, & Wakeland sat out (Waxahachie too, but they've never attended, as far back as I care to research). This year, from last year's attendees, Haltom, Seven Lakes, Lake Travis, & James Martin appear to be the ones sitting out, with Dripping Springs & Brazoswood being the only ones from 2018 not jumping back in. Despite early speculation (I think for the second year in a row?) that they would finally jump in to San Antonio, still no Waxahachie on the list. Some day!!!! This competition is literally just a few bands away of hosting the best of Texas year after year...maybe adding a Semifinals round eventually will persuade all to end on a given year! Ah, a guy can dream.
On the other hand, notable add ons who were absent from SA last year:
The biggest one...North Shore! If I recall correctly, this is their first BOA appearance in two years? I also seem to remember that they were signed up for SA or maybe Houston last year but didn't end up attending? So I'm cautious on this entry for now, but it's a potentially very exciting one.
Dawson jumping back into the SA fight after at least five years out.
Clear Creek, Conroe, Wylie East all making what I think is their first foray to SA.
John Horn of course, which was already announced, but still an exciting addition to see.
Paetow is the new school in The Woodlands/College Park/Oak Ridge school district...and maybe still no seniors this next season? Still, looking forward to great things from them.

But five is a good start! I personally like the name, Grand Nats Southwest. ;-)

Vista Murrieta is very interesting here - they were close to GN finals a few years back...probably will be happy to break the top 20-25 in SA

When a Texan makes a big deal about there being SO MANY out of state bands, we who don't live in the 39th largest nation in the world by area have to weigh in.

If they bring a similar level of clean visual execution to what we've seen i the past, they could win visual and be left out of finals.

I highly doubt Vista Murrieta will win visual, but I would not be surprised to see that end up their best caption of the weekend. Also should they win visual, I very much doubt they will be left in the stands Saturday night. A rising tide lifts all boats.

This regional is so insanely competitive. I think maybe those pushing for a semi finals format to this regional may be onto something.

How in the world are they going to fit 94 bands even with the new format? I have a sneaking suspicion that since they allowed that many to sign up they are going to surprise us with something cool like that. The biggest problem is where all of the buses are going to park but they can do what most bands do during fiesta and go park somewhere else after they drop the kids off. You can have more space to store trailers and more space for warm-up that way. Alamo stadium would serve as the perfect place for the buses to park seeing that it's so close. There's enough room to have at least ten or more bands watching in the stands at one time - there is a reason the stadium is so big. I'm sure the city is fine with the buses parking somewhere else, they've always been pretty supportive of the bands here in the city. We wouldn't have such a large battle of the bands event during fiesta if they weren't.

Thanks! Still think a semis format in SA is more viable than many think. I also think it is very possible. As the enrollment numbers have grown and maintain in the 80-90, even 100 bands range then I think a case can be made after a few years. MFA won't do it without a high likelihood of hitting the necessary enrollment numbers.
