Well...boredom has set in. Anyone want to join in? What past shows do you remember fondly as "fun" shows - something that was different and made you smile? My top-of-mind list: - Lawrence Township 2018
- Jenks 2018
- O'Fallon 2017
- Mustang 2019
What else? I need something new to search for on YouTube.

The Wizard of Oz/The Wiz or shows that were inspired by that always gave the students/members and audience a lot of entertainment. Here is a look at 4 four shows that hit a high note with the audience in their interpretation of the Wizard of Oz.
1986 Sky Ryders DCI Finals
Their show was "Wizard of OZ". Back in the 1980s, themed style shows were very much in their infancy, still being developed. The 86 Sky Ryders took the idea of a theme show to new heights. The use of props and characters in telling us the story was in many ways ahead of its time.
1991 Northmont HS BOA Grand National Prelims
Their show was "Selections From the Wizard of Oz and The Wiz"
This show used electronic sounds and voice over which were very innovative for the time. In fact, this and PCEPs show this year may have been the first to use amplified vocalization (Northmont's was a recording while PCEPs was a live narrator) at Grand Nationals.
1996 Plymouth-Canton Educational Park BOA Grand National Semi Finals (their finals performance is not online).
Their show was "The Road to OZ"
Notable for how they used the bicycle props in the design and some of the body movements done by the band, very innovative for the time.
2010 Broken Arrow HS BOA Grand National Finals
Their show was titled "Zo- Inspired by the Wizard of Oz"
This is the best arranged, designed, performed and most entertaining Oz themed show I have ever scene.

Broken Arrow 2019- What more should I say! Seeing this live was absolutely incredible and is one of my all time faves from them!!!!!
Haltom 2019- not necessarily a "fun" show but had some groovy and extremely catchy Latin American music perfectly executed by a killer band!!!
Ofallon Township 2018- I love this show soooo much, and I love the band even more. So glad they were finally able to make finals. They are an amazing group of kids!!!
Franklin 2019- Had somewhat of an off year this past season but still produced a fun, underrated show! That ballad got some funk!

Mason 2013 is my vote. Just such a fun show the audience loved and they got better at every run at GN.

Probably not the point of this thread, but yeah entertaining to watch in a video like this. And yes there has been some colossal falls at Grand National Finals over the years.

Tarpon Springs 2018 - βRP1β Such an incredibly imaginative show that is just overall entertaining to watch over and over and over. During their season they would let people vote on a different ending they had for their show which is definitely an innovative concept. I find this Marching Show to be one to represent the 2010βs era of the Marching Arts.

Every time I see a dinosaur costume, you know what show I'm reminded of. They might not have gotten in the top half of finals at Indy Super, but they definitely got first place in our hearts.

Thatβs awesome. Reminds me of last year when Cedar Park was rehearsing one night in the stadium and the lights suddenly went out. It didnβt stop the band from finishing the show, and several parents and even a few band kids happened to catch it all on camera. Someone then took the three videos and combined them into this montage. Pretty cool to watch.

Eastland, TX HS Band had a similar incident like Cedar Park, although the lights went out at the start of their show at a football game.

Camdenton 2018 was Red Hot, but it's still awesome to be included that was my senior year and San Antonio was my favorite high school trip! I wish our 2017 show was on youtube. That was Tickled Pink, and it was the first show that got us into super regional finals! That was also the first year of the infamous backdrops. The musical selections ranged from Pink Floyd to Danny Elfman, and we had a stellar saxophone solo to Pink Panther (I love hearing people say "Oh, you were in the Pink Panther show!"). That same student played the sax solo in 2018 and the soprano in 2019. Oh, and I rode a bright pink bike! I think one the most interesting shows I've seen live was O'Fallon Township 2017, "White Canvas". I believe we were watching them in the stands at the Golden Regiment Invitational that year when I saw a tenor player wipe out, and I'm pretty sure he might have cut himself on the drum, but maybe my memory has made it more dramatic. For some reason, that was one of my most prominent memories from that year. I wonder how he's doing. And, of course, the most fun I've had watching a show live while I was in high school had to have been Jenks 2018 "Carman". Not much to say here other than that you really just had to be there- if a show could win purely on performer energy and audience connection, Jenks would be the Grand Champion. If you've seen this show, then you know who I'm talking about when I say those two young men in color guard SOLD that performance. I remember watching finals in the stands with my mom, my brother, and my best friend and her mom. The band went home, and we decided to stay. My younger brother was a freshman and he'd passed out by that time, but I remember how excited my mom was watching that show.

Back in the day, a show that got much buzz as being a fun show was 1994 Union's 'Batman'.

Ohh I remember that Pink Panther show! It was so good! Are you in this FloMarching clip ilikeguard? You canβt see me but yes! I was the line leader back then. I got very sick the beginning of the season and couldnβt march, but they found a way to get me in and itβs one of my favorite experiences. I might have written that dance too, but I donβt remember π

It was O'Fallon's second competition on the tarps so they weren't quite comfortable yet on how to get them down smoothly and step over the seams. One of the guys tripped on a seam during prelims, fell backwards, and he got hit in the face by his quads. His strap broke, so he carried them and marched the rest of the set. He had a small cut over his eye but got stitched up during the break and was on the field for finals.

I can't believe this was 20 year ago. Yikes! When I saw the final end of season product of this show, I thought to myself, Whoa that must have been a fun show to do. I also thought, WOW how insanely difficult. One of PCEP's most difficult shows they ever did. So if a show can be both fun and incredibly difficult to perform and hard to learn, this would be that show.
2000 Plymouth-Canton Ed Park "Reflections On Obsessions"

Are You Ready For Some Baseball?
This is 1994 Reeths-Puffer HS marching band, their baseball show. Very 'out of the box' for 1994. The audience, which included me, loved it.
This was their performance at the 1994 Michigan State Finals. They won Flight II, which was their first of many state titles.
