I am certain that BOA will get by just fine without Illinois bands. It is Illinois State that may see an exodus, depending on the groups who have limited history at that event and prefer the BOA experience instead. (Unless they do a surprise reveal with others, which I find to be unlikely)

That show never drew the same participation numbers as the other three and with the increase in regional finals to 12 bands it doesn't really matter anyways. So while I'm doubtful that it will return, it could be announced with the rest of the schedule.

You’d expect the Orlando Regional to be a Super Regional because of where it’s hosted, but sure enough Camping World remains a Regional.

Just my opinion but I think they're hesitant to make Orlando a Super because of the ever present threat of rain. Making a show a Super Regional draws more groups from further away simply because of the prestige, whereas a regular regional tends to be more...well, regional. Obviously some regular regionals do draw the occasional band from outside of the geographic area, like Broken Arrow and Brownsburg going to Orlando last year, but those tend to be the exception rather than the norm. So its easier to make the decision to cancel a show for weather when most of the bands are from within a couple hours drive rather than a bunch who have 12+ hour rides or even fly in.

We’re likely never going to see an outdoor super regional. Rain is too much of an issue to deal with and highly unpredictable at times.

Has anything like this happened in Illinois in the past? I would like to hear your thoughts since you are more knowledgeable on what type of events the schools would likely attend.

Sigh. That's Illinois State. Dan, How do you think this will impact scheduling in Illinois? Will schools opt out of ISU to go to a Super Regional event or vice versa? Has anything like this happened in Illinois in the past? I would like to hear your thoughts since you are more knowledgeable on what type of events they attend. Good question. There's been a few times where U of I or ISU has conflicted with the super regionals. 2007: ISU/St. Louis - Only Prospect and O'Fallon attended St. Louis. This was the last year Prospect didn't attend ISU. 2009: St. Louis/U of I: Morton, Marian, Metamora, Salem, Lincoln Community, Normal West, O'Fallon attended St. Louis. Out of that group, the only real surprise was Morton, as they were perennial U of I attendees and champions in their class. 2014: St. Louis/U of I: Normal West, Lemont, East Peoria, Lincoln Community, Plainfield North, Collinsville, O'Fallon, Lockport, Naperville Central all at St. Louis. 2015: St. Louis/ISU: Normal West, Normal Community, O'Fallon, Belleville East, East Peoria. Both Normals performed Friday afternoon and went back home and performed at ISU the next day. 2016: St. Louis/ISU: Monticello, Mahomet-Seymour, Rock Island, East Peoria, Metamora, Normal West, Collinsville, O'Fallon, Belleville East. Again, Normal West performed on Friday and at ISU Saturday, making finals. 2017: St. Louis/Indy/U of I: Normal West, Normal Community, Monticello, Herscher and Plainfield North all did double duty, performing at U of I and one of the respective regionals. 2018: Indy/ISU/U of I: Romeoville, Wheaton Warrenville South, Lockport, Naperville North. Lockport was the only one to do ISU and Indy. 2019: Indy/U of I & ISU/St. Louis: Some bands did both. Long story short, I don't know what's going to happen. Hoping we get another regional that makes sense around the normal schedule. There will once again be plenty of shows (too many?) to go around with new ones added in, not to mention Morton (at least) going prelims/finals. It'd be nice to see U of I possibly go to a prelims/finals show to compete with ISU, but I don't forsee that happening. If they host and everything returns to normal (hopefully), they're looking at an October 9 or 16 date.
