I’ve got Munster in AA based on public enrollment numbers. Concord will be on the edge of AA and AAA. Concord is not here however. Also, want to give some love to Evansville North. Easily the best I've ever seen, or heard them. Wow wow wow! You’re right. I thought he may have confused them because I do sometimes. . I do like North’s show this year.

Anyone at LOS and able to get a peek at the draw board? I’m assuming Homestead and Castle have checked in…. Can someone explain what this is and what it means?

Wow Homestead?! Obviously the show has some cleaning to do, but I feel like they are in a good spot for Grand Nationals in a few weeks.

Can someone explain what this is and what it means? The number you pick determines where you get placed for finals, within the top 7 and bottom 7. So since Carmel picked high, they will most likely going 8th in finals, the first of the top 7.

Homestead has made a lot of progress since when I saw them on YT in September. But it’s still dirty visually and musically slightly weaker than normal.
However, they have A LOT drill! I would say more than 95% of bands attending GN this year at least. Lots of marching and playing. Not sure all of the drill is necessary for the concept but it is not an easy show by any stretch.

Ok, Homestead. There is a lot here. First of all, this is absolutely the fresh direction I’ve been craving from Homestead for years. I can really see this developing into something special by the end of the season. The design is spectacular; give this show to any Finalist-caliber group and they’d sink their teeth into it and run with it. Tons and tons of visual layering, the pacing is smart and makes sense, wonderful music arrangements of Gangsta’s Paradise.
I just don’t get the performance levels from the group yet. They sound and feel young. The group clearly doesn’t feel super confident with this new direction (yet). And, as we always say with homestead, get those high brass issues fixed!!!! But, I have tons of confidence that they will tighten up that sound this year and in years to come with Warfield at the head. The lack of confidence & salesmanship from the group was especially apparent “following” Mustang.
You’ve got a terrific show lined up, Homestead! Finally something new and current. Just clean it and get into it!

Castle is really good! Wow! But, I actually think the band is maxing out the show right now. I don’t really see anymore GE that you could pull from this thing other than what they’ve already got. Guard is a little messy though.

Being passed by Castle, Fishers and Brownsburg will be an eye opener for sure… Castle is amazing this season. The show is full of GE and is finally designed in the “right” way! Congratulations Castle!

Agree with many of the comments on Homestead, so won't add much more, although I think they are sitting outside the bubble for GN Finals. Easy lock for Super Regional Finals tonight though.
Castle sounded amazing! I think they will be in the top half tonight. Although many parts of their visual design leave me wanting more to match up to their music book better. I think they have a chance to sneak into GN Finals as well, but of course the competition is tough

Castle!!!! An excellent performance from a top notch group. Balance & blend were especially nice following Homestead. I prefer Homestead’s show for the long run, but there is zero question who is cleaner now, and it very well may stay that way. Castle really looks great, too. Their guard can spin and the ensemble proper has excellent body carriage and attention to feet. What else is there to say? Well done, castle! I love seeing this group back to these performance levels!!

Was this a change for Homestead alone? Or Indiana overall? When Warfield came on after 2019 he announced a shorter band camp, and shorter practice schedule for Homestead. They no longer practice at all on Mondays, and don't seem to take advantage of Saturdays either. It's not a covid thing. This was set pre-covid. In any event, there's a LOT of practice time left on the table that would have been previously used by the program.

Wow this definitely seems like a different Mason than usual in terms of design. First, that was a lot of running and athleticism needed for a pre-show! The brass book is very noticeably much more difficult than in past years, where to me the woodwinds were carrying the majority of the show in the past. Visual design in this show is extremely good and very worthy of competing against Avon and Carmel. I think the only thing I wanted more was a bit more volume and power (are my speakers just too low??). Also, did not think I would hear Lux Aurumque again!
Pretty unique show overall; kind of reminded me of a cross between Broken Arrow 2017 and LD Bell 2010 for some reason.

I know UIL doesn’t permit Saturday practices and traditionally bands even on the higher level leave 1 weekday off for band practice at least in Texas.

I really, really enjoyed Mason! I’ve got them well below Avon & Carmel but a good bit above the Brownsburg/Castle/Homestead/Fishers tier. A pretty clear third place finish tonight, I think.
It is a different Mason than we’re used to, and I like the branching out!! Honestly, the show isn’t quite the fun Top Gun take I expected, but I’m ok with that. It was more a subtle retelling if the story, and it worked out nicely. It isn’t in your face Top Gun, although it’s very clear what’s going on at all points. I love it! Brass was a bit more uneven and spread than I’m used to, but they’re playing a lot. And the whole group is moving a ton, that’s more drill than I’m used to seeing from Mason! They handle it all very well. All in all, a great show!! I look forward to seeing this clean up for GN.

But Texas groups aren’t foolish enough to stuff that much visual demand into that little time. :-)

Claudia Taylor Johnson and Hebron would both like a word! Did...did you just say Hebron has difficult visual repertoires? 2018 and this year both have hard drill. It's not really effective and a lot of it is inexplicably hidden, but it's a lot more than other bands in the state, especially considering their musical demand on the move.

Claudia Taylor Johnson and Hebron would both like a word! Did...did you just say Hebron has difficult visual repertoires? To be fair, Hebron did take the VPI caption at Nats a few years back. They aren’t CTJ or Avon, but still. The disparity between color guards really exaggerates the gap sometimes.

Pickerington North sounds pretty good (consistently across the past few years), but their design (especially this year) is just underwhelming and needs a bit more creativity. I think they have a lot of potential that needs to be unlocked.

Anyone else thinking there’s a decent chance Pickerington North takes one of the last Finals spots tonight? We still have North Hardin to go, but I feel like PN wasn’t terribly far off from Goshen or Franklin Central. I mean, don’t get me wrong, it’s a safe show that inspires very little in the way of emotion, but all aspects worked together well and each design entity was well though out. They seemed to be crystal clean in both marching & music! The band sounded nice and full.
