now you got me curious about this Munster Band! Right on the Illinois/Indiana border. They've made ISSMA Class B state finals for 9 consecutive years, and they've placed 4th three years in a row. They were planning on doing three regionals and Nationals last year as well. They're a pretty good band who (depending on who signs up) could make finals at Cedar Falls and Toledo, and could win their class (AA). Making semifinals wouldn't be out of the question in my opinion. Here's their 2018 show. |

Pretty poor response from them over their placing. |

I believe they tie with 9th place in music beating so many good bands like North Hardin, Centerville, Center Grove, Marian Catholic, and Homestead.  . They were spectacular at Indianapolis. |

Music GE's had them 12th (!!!) and 22nd for 18th music overall and that was still enough to get them 25th in GE overall despite a 48th in Visual GE. If they can pull a decent visual program in the next few years, they'll be making Indy Super finals like no tomorrow on top of having a great shot at placing in AAA (winning is another question as long as Blue Springs exists). Great call by their director to bring them to Indy Super as a test run in 2019. I imagine they were feeling incredibly encouraged after the results came out. |

Probably feeling encouraged... but we all know they play well and i’m sure they know their robust concert program is working - and has been for many years. Trying to get the visual and GE up is no easy task. We’ve seen many flop. Not to be a downer but it takes a huge effort to improve those aspects of a band program. Especially when directors are trained as MUSIC educators. Not graphics designers or cross country coaches. Not faulting bands in this position just stating that it’s difficult to move up in those categories with or without great staff. |

Lockport Township H.S., IL will not be attending. They will be attending the ISU competition on this weekend.
Lockport Township has posted their season schedule. Looks like they are only attending local competitions this year.

No BOA for Victor J Andrew! Staying close this year around the chicagoland area. I don't think we'll see much in the way of BOA participation for the great state of Illinois this year, save for Lincoln-Way, Marian, Prospect (maybe?), Lake Park (Indy), Morton, Edwardsville, O'Fallon, Mahomet-Seymour, Normal, Plainfield North, Danville (for the first time in God knows how long) and....that's about it. Between COVID, U of I changing dates twice, and having 45 shows in the state (which is way too many), it is not a great year to participate in BOA events if you're from Illinois. |

DeKalb is a pleasant surprise.
However... Jasper attending is huge (at least in the ISSMA world). Jasper has been a fairly competitive program in B for many years under Goodhue, but elected to skip BOA. There's been quite a bit of director shuffling so far in B that makes Jasper's attendance pretty interesting to watch. If I had to guess, they would be AA.
Regardless of whatever all that implies, it's always wonderful to see new faces and I'm glad Jasper is finally making that splash.
