I absolutely LOVE that Brownsburg show! It’s beautiful. Does anyone know who the designer is? 100% Wes Cartwright You are correct.

How in the heck did Greenfield Central get third to last at Dayton with that show?

For now, I've got Greenfield Central over Greenwood. Waiting to see how Munster compares to these two for next week's Class B Semi-State.

How in the heck did Greenfield Central get third to last at Dayton with that show? Just my opinion, but didn't think they sounded particularly great and music book seemed to be a weird compilation of familiar DCI shows.

It is definitely not their best show nor the best execution they’ve ever had. I also never saw their performance at Dayton, so I guess I was just surprised to see them fare how they did.

How in the heck did Greenfield Central get third to last at Dayton with that show? Roughly 2 minutes on the field that stopped abruptly halfway through opening piece. Judges were going to prefer shows that had more content on the field.

First time I’ve been able to see FC this season, and what a huge surprise!
The show is delicate, raw, and bizarrely-paced in an intriguing way. The group sounds great and the guard looks TERRIFIC. Tons of detail in the wind book being executed already. I actually have the hanging around Center Grove in the low 80s at the moment. Having watched many other bubble groups today, I’d like to think they’d be safely in finals tomorrow night.
Greenfield was nice. I can see how the scoring hasn’t necessarily gone their way this season. It might not today, either —- a nice run that seemed to just fall apart at the end. Or maybe they just haven’t cleaned that far yet. Lots of balance & blend issues in the winds, and guard was a weaker factor than I remember. Percussion from all areas was absolutely terrific, as usual. Tons of depth in the front ensemble writing. I could see Greenfield finding the success they want at both ISSMA and then BOA GN, just depends on where they take this show. I’ve got them mid-70s today, whereas I’ve got Greenwood landing in the upper 70s with Decatur. I’m excited to see how munster compares in just a few bands!

This Avon show is so old school and I love it. It’s like Boston Crusaders and Massive (Avon 2008) in one. Honestly it’s very DCI. Trumpets lost a little focus going into that hit in the ballad but I think it was just a concentration thing.

Avon is a finals lock for me (what a shock!!) The trumpet soloist sounds amazing in the beginning, and very good sounds from the winds in general. I feel like their brass is a bit more balanced and tamed than usual (probably in a good way). It's also surprising how little props there are on the field, so I'm very curious how this show will hold up to other GN finalists, but there's no doubt Avon is executing at the highest level.

Avon is lovely! Demand on demand on demand, as always, and I appreciate the crazy things they’re asking their kids to do. Doesn’t strike me as the most innovative show ever, but maybe they wanted to play it a little safe coming out of Covid. It could certainly win it all at GN, but I think in the end there will be some fresher designs from other groups at the top.
By The way, Shostakovich & Avon?! That is a perfect match. Why haven’t we gotten much of that before?! Fire of Eternal Glory is going to sound absolutely magnificent from that horn line once it’s cleaned up.

Carmel is so clean. They should definitely take performance captions. However the ballad pacing isn’t my favorite, and the closer leaves me wanting more suspense… otherwise is a lovely show.

Carmel another obvious finals lock. The opener is quite a visual feast and color guard is amazing as usual. I'm a bit conflicted on the show though... I feel like there are a lot of extremely amazing moments, but then other times, I feel like the show doesn't quite make sense to me. There was also a lot to look at, so maybe I just missed something. Overall, I found Avon's show much more intuitive in GE and also thought Avon executed better overall.

Avon was lovely, but Carmel is pretty clearly ahead today, at least by my eyes & especially ears. This is a monster show that is fresh, innovative, and chock full of luscious, slow builds. Also, Rachmaninov & Carmel is as perfect a match as Shostakovich & Avon is.
No one is going to convince me over the next month that Carmel’s entire ballad is not one of the most musical, well-written chunks of design we’ve ever seen on a football field. It’s three minutes (give or take) of rubato tempo pushes and pulls, delicate dynamic ebbs and flows, all leading up to a glorious pay off. There is so much nuance in the writing throughout that ENTIRE movement! I’m in love.
Also, their full ensemble sounds terrific. Yes, a few spots here and there, but their overall control and blend for this point in the season is beautiful. Don’t even get me started on that guard.

How's the multicam viewing? I just came across a Flo multicam video I'd not seen before of a 2019 show at the Indianapolis Superregional, and nearly every shot choice was wrong. To take one example: I'm not a fan of lengthy closeups of soloists, but I want to see them at least briefly, and in this case, there was one soloist who played more than any other in the show -- at one point for more than 40 seconds completely unaccompanied -- and there wasn't any closeup of her at all.

Fisher’s show is so interesting. I don’t like jazz but it really works here in the snippets they use. If they can clean up the music they will a force come grand nationals. Love the reuse of the water bottles for the props, you can hardly tell.

Fishers of course solidly landing in the back half of Finals for tomorrow, and should look great going into GN. What a show! I don’t think they will QUITE end up in the Homestead-Castle-Brownsburg tier at the end of the season like I had initially suspected they would. But for the first time, I feel like they’ve fielded a design that looks like it belongs (or could belong) in GN Finals, and that’s a huge step for the program. It’s not a flawless design masterpiece YET, but all the ingredients are there.
Also, their brass sounds brash, aggressive, and sharp! I’m all about it! They’ve got a meaty music book and they sound great. And that world class guard!!!! All the ingredients are there. Fishers will clearly land in the teens at GN. I don’t know if this is QUITE the show & the year yet, but they are so close to breaking into that upper tier.

Idk… I like Fishers more than Brownsburg atm. Fishers show has much more GE and features such a variety of ensemble moments (love the trombone choir playing “somewhere beyond the sea” with the battery - so clever!). I felt like Brownsburg’s music was fine but more repetitive. Both have cleaning to do.

Munster was a nice way to close out todays prelims! Whoever took over the program for Winternheimer is clearly maintaining. Also, that flute player!!!!! Wow. What a talented individual. I personally have them ahead of Greenwood & Greenfield today, not that they’ll be in the same class for BOA, but these are some nice bands to top off Class B in ISSMA —- looking forward to Jasper & Evansville North tomorrow! Pendleton Heights also impressed me today.
