Tragic backstory aside this is a pretty surprising addition. I don’t think we’ve seen Crockett on the BOA scene or the marching band scene altogether in the last few years.

Let's hope we don't see a repeat of '93. Impossible. Thankfully this is BOA. I don't think BOA would do them dirty like UIL did.

Thankfully this is BOA. I don't think BOA would do them dirty like UIL did. True but you can see why they have been loathe to dip their toes in BOA waters in recent years. Can you imagine if...well, never mind.

It's exciting seeing Crockett making this trip, they've been one of the fastest improving Austin ISD bands in recent years. It is always a bit uneasy seeing them on lists because of their past experiences at large contests... let's hope history doesn't repeat itself.

I mean… they’ll at least be a shoe-in for a class medal, considering there’s currently only one other band in Class AA with them.

Drop: L.D. Bell H.S., TX
Sources say it's just an expensive event to attend. Added with UIL State on the same week, it would be a logistical nightmare and the district would not allow kids to miss almost a week of school for band.

I’m so sad!! and now I’m concerned that we won’t see Hebron or Marcus either for the same reasons.

UIL is bad and should feel bad You would think that an organization that includes INTERSCHOLASTIC in their name would avoid holding events that cause EVERY participating student to miss significant school time.

Interesting point, I agree. Although UIL State does alternate so at least it isn’t every year - except with coronavirus messing up everything and now they’re going back to back. Even WGI will push finals events to Sunday. UIL is the only one I know where major contests are during the school week. I am aware of a few others during the week: Arkansas assessments are on Tuesdays, Cobb County Exhibition is usually during the week, OBA seems to have some contests during the week (could be wrong). Anyway, I do not think it is a good idea for Bell to skip. I think Marcus and Hebron will survive just fine but I think Bell needs it for momentum. Not to mention since 2014 they’ve only made it to state once.

If BOA San Antonio would just let the 6A bands go to prelims on Saturday this year, that would solve a lot of the having to miss school issues!

The bands that wouldn't have a shot at a Saturday time slot would be those in the San Antonio and Austin areas (that didn't win a contest per the second bullet point):
The day of a Band’s Prelims Performance will be based on a participant's choice of Day of Performance and Distance from the Event criteria. The established criteria and procedures are as follow: •The Super Regional Application form will include an option to automatically designate Friday as a preferred day of Performance. •Any BOA Regional or Super Regional Champion, Grand National Champion, or Grand National Class Champion from the previous season enrolled in the event may choose its day of Performance (Friday or Saturday). •Bands that request a Friday Performance draw slot on their enrollment application will be assigned to perform on Friday. •The thirty (30) Bands that are the farthest distance from the Performance venue will be given priority for a Saturday Prelim Performance time.
Additionally, after Saturday slots have been filled, the remaining participating Bands (those geographically closest to the Performance venue), will have a Prelim Performance time on Friday.
So for some of these bands I am skeptical of the "time away from school" angle, but can see the "cost" angle.

I guess that means Leander gets a Saturday slot if they want it! 😁 #classaaagrandnationalchamps19

Confirmed: John B. Connally, TX Another band to round out the Texas Class A BOA scene! That’s the Connally in Pflugerville ISD, no? Aren’t they 5A in UIL? Unless I missed them becoming a small magnet school in the district over the last few years or something. Or did Weiss take that many students from them? It’s hard to keep up with all of the Texas schools!

The most notable non-confirmations yet are probably Hebron, Marcus & Lake Travis.
Wouldn’t be surprised if we see both Hebron + Marcus out of SA this year with how unrelenting their district has been.
Lake Travis hasn’t released anything of note on their contests this year so it’s up in the air but I’d be surprised if they didn’t attend. They could be banking on a UIL State spot now that Leander’s out of their area.
I would not be surprised if Prosper traded their SA trip for a St.Louis trip because of funding, and I do not blame them if they did.

Yes if I was a gambler I’d lay odds on Hebron and Marcus skipping San Antonio due to UIL being Monday and Tuesday of that same week down at the Alamodome. Two trips in one week? The district probably said No.

What's truly baffling about that is the district apparently preferring the kids missing that entire week of school.
Doing BOA SA and GN makes way more sense.

It does make more sense... but I believe like many state circuits, school districts make enrollment in those almost a requirement. I believe the issue is they miss the Friday of school before.

Carmel did just fine skipping a year of ISSMA in Richard Saucedo's last season.
