Eh, it's just like being able to watch a band on the field and notice immediately which trombone player is out of step. The thing which is different sticks out We’re also all human and humans make (or don’t notice) silly mistakes sometimes.

But then I couldn’t UN-see it. 😬 No worries, ok? 🤗

That's why having someone else proofread your important writing is important. Here, not so much.

I think this’ll fill, if not slightly barely.

I think this’ll fill, if not slightly barely. Agreed. I can’t see this regional being less than 15-18 bands.

Texas bands that aren't in one of the major metropolitans (A/SA, DFW, Houston) tend to not have public calendars online for one reason or another, so McAllen and Midland always seem really small until the official lists get released.

UIL judging ≠ BOA judging If you want to play that game they entirely missed finals at the TMC with a very similar judging style That was a very rough performance for them, I think I remember hearing they were the first to go on after a very late night at football. Also making 5A state finals is no easy task (look at who missed, both Colleyville Heritage and McCallum were incredible), so a low finish in finals shouldn't cause a reason for worry at a relatively uncompetitive BOA event.

Add:
William J. Brennan H.S., TX
Another band making their BOA premiere! This San Antonio school is in the same district as Brandeis and O'Connor and has had a lot of success in recent years competing in various USBands competitions racking up a respectable amount of medals. They will also be attending BOA Midland this year as well as 3 USBands competitions, so they've got quite the ambitious schedule for the fall!

So many solid programs in this area and I expect great things for these NISD school in the future! Growth and splits have stunned all these programs in recent times. NISD is one of the largest ISD’s in Texas with literally multiple high schools within 5 minutes from each other. Harlan HS added to the mix just 2 years ago! It’s amazing that most have stayed competitive considering. Great things from NISD for 2021!

October 2 - US Bands Houston
October 9 - US Bands Liberty Hill
October 11-15 - Northside Marching Band Festival -- Unscored
October 16 - UIL Region 29 Marching Contest

Now that we have official lists, I'm finally comfortable making predictions... at least as comfortable as I will ever be for McAllen.
The finalists seem to change drastically every year, and not just because there are drastically different bands.
Locks (8): Del Rio H.S., TX John B. Alexander H.S., TX Louis D. Brandeis H.S., TX (AAAA) Pioneer H.S., TX Roma H.S., TX (AAA) Sharyland H.S., TX (AA) United H.S., TX Weiss H.S., TX
Likely (4): Georgetown H.S., TX Grapevine H.S., TX Harlingen H.S., TX Harlingen South H.S., TX
Wildcards: Hidalgo Early College H.S., TX Rio Grande City H.S., TX Robert Vela H.S., TX

Most recent numbers from Department of Education showed Roma with 1,107 in 10-12, safely in AA (as of 2019-2020 school year). Roma seems to have a lot of dropouts(?) after freshman year, probably due to having a large economically disadvantaged population: 9th: 635 10th: 382 11th: 374 12th: 351

However, I swear they should have been AAA a couple times given their enrollment size pre-2019. Maybe there's a special circumstance we don't know about, but always found it strange.
