And now a comparison to the final confirmed/rumored list compiled by the forums prior to the schedule release.
Not on lists but attending - Harlingen, Harlingen South, Santa Rosa
"Confirmed" but not attending - William J. Brennan
Rumored but not attending - Edinburg North, Gladys Porter, James Pace, Juarez-Lincoln, Klein Collins, Mission, San Benito
The previous comment about the difficulty in finding good information for early season in Texas was spot on.

You'll have to be more specific. I say a lot of ridiculous stuff. 😜

This should be a good chance for Brandeis to get some nice quality feedback and finish nicely at the Area H contest.

They'll find a way to be AA I'm sure. Lol. It's happened a couple times now. Most recent numbers from Department of Education showed Roma with 1,107 in 10-12, safely in AA (as of 2019-2020 school year). Roma seems to have a lot of dropouts(?) after freshman year, probably due to having a large economically disadvantaged population: 9th: 635 10th: 382 11th: 374 12th: 351 This is true. However it’s also true that Roma’s freshman class that year specifically was slightly noticeably larger than other years. It’s very impressive that Roma manages to come out and be so competitive when they’re an exception to the large suburban school domination we see. People talk about rich suburban schools dominating the Texas circuit and I think Roma might be the best example of a school beating the odds. It’s the closest example we have right now I think.

Can you confirm if my edit is accurate? Unsure how the math works with everyone in the first block performing 15 minutes later with the same amount of bands and the same start time.

The potential for bad weather in this area next week is high unfortunately. 🥺 Let's hope the "scattered thunderstorms" remain scattered. 95ºF with 60% humidity is terrible enough.

Shameless shilling time, check the HornRank contest page for McAllen and see my summary of the bands to watch for this weekend. From now on my notorious novels will be posted there instead of on the forums.

I would generally do a final predictions prior to seeing performances, but I just don't know enough of these groups to give a decent guess. I do believe Roma will take it though followed closely by JBA, Del Rio and Weiss. Hopefully the show will go on. Weather co-operate with us this year please!

Brandeis will be up there too, they're my favorite to win it all after their fantastic 2019 season.

Gonna be a hot one! Updating my predictions as we approach Saturday, after seeing quite a few performances. I think any of the top three could win. This contest is infamous for its unpredictability and, dare we say, inconsistency in terms of results, so it will be exciting to see how things actually end up. I expect this list to be completely different to the actual results.
1. Roma H.S., TX 2. John B. Alexander H.S., TX 3. Louis D. Brandeis H.S., TX 4. Weiss H.S., TX 5. Del Rio H.S., TX 6. Pioneer H.S., TX 7. United H.S., TX 8. Robert Vela H.S., TX 9. A 1. Santa Rosa H.S., TX
AA 1. Roma H.S., TX 2. Pioneer H.S., TX 3. Hidalgo Early College H.S., TX

That's gotta be hefty penalty for Georgetown, shame because of how good they are performing. I will be heartbroken for the kids if they miss finals because of it.

Haven't been able to catch the stream, what happened? They had issues with their synths, didn't start performing until 8-9 mintues into their block. Unfortunately it looks like Weiss is experiencing similar issues, they still haven't started and their timeblock started at 12:15.

Haven't been able to catch the stream, what happened? Had about a 8 min delay due to the electronics. A bit ironic given the show is about electricity. Got to feel for those kids, but once working they were able to step up and perform well!

However not as long of a delay as Georgetown. Weiss had a very good performance once started!

It's 95 deg. in McAllen currently with high humidity and a feels like temp of 102 deg. Would not be surprised if the heat is getting to some of the electronics.

Definitely, wish the directors had planned ahead for this. This is far from a new issue in Texas, in 2017 Westwood had to perform at BOA Austin prelims synthless and barely missed finals (not due to a penalty though). Bringing some sort of shading for your electronics is absolutely necessary for early season Texas contests.

The McAllen contest was delayed an hour for heat issues, the fire marshal came out and told them to close things down for a bit. A mom is saying on txbands that there are a lot of kids being treated for heat-related health issues. Really hope the contest can get started back up soon enough, but the health of the performers always comes first.
