Competing for 1st (1): The Woodlands (not really a competition)
Other comfortable locks (3): Oak Ridge Pearland Stephen F. Austin
Likely finalists (8): Brazoswood Bridgeland College Park Dawson Dripping Springs James E. Taylor Keller Central Seven Lakes
Wildcards: Cy-Fair Cypress Woods Klein Oak Wylie East
Remaining class champions: Bridge City (A/AA)
Other great programs worth mentioning: L.V. Berkner Porter
Sachse Spring
It's crazy how much of a bloodbath this regional still is even with it being split in two. The fact that I only feel comfortable locking in 4 programs into finals really speaks to me how dynamic and competitive Houston bands are becoming.

Not even going to try and rank the whole regional. Even trying to rank the top 12 was really hard and honestly kind of a crapshoot. Fifteen it is... I mean... truly... second to like, twelfth place could go any which way. 1. The Woodlands H.S., TX 2. Stephen F. Austin H.S., TX 3. Pearland H.S., TX 4. Seven Lakes H.S., TX 5. Oak Ridge H.S., TX 6. Brazoswood H.S., TX 7. Wylie East H.S., TX 8. James E. Taylor H.S., TX 9. Keller Central H.S., TX 10. Dawson H.S., TX 11. Cy-Fair H.S., TX 12. Dripping Springs H.S., TX ---- 13. Cypress Woods H.S., TX 14. Bridgeland H.S., TX 15. College Park H.S., TX A/AA: 1. Bridge City H.S., TX (605 kids in Grade 10-12, so official class determination is up in the air) AAA: 1. Stephen F. Austin H.S., TX 2. Wylie East H.S., TX 3. Dripping Springs H.S., TX AAAA: 1. The Woodlands H.S., TX 2. Pearland H.S., TX 3. Seven Lakes H.S., TX It is really hard to predict this year, but you put JET, Wylie East, and Keller Central over Dawson?? They got like 26 or 27th at BOA SA in 2019, quite a feat, Also excited for how many bands will make finals that haven’t made finals in major hub cities’ regionals before. Sad that Bridgeland isn’t doing finals, I definitely could see them sneaking into top 12.

I was looking at 2019 Houston recaps as one of the factors to help shape my predictions. Time of year is EVERYTHING when predicting regional results, by the way. Bands may perform better or worse in early season than late season and vice versa.

I love Bridgeland, but they’ve never made a regional finals before, to my knowledge. They were fairly close in 2019 at Waco, and they are indeed a fast-improving program, but I still see them more as a wildcard until proven otherwise. And if they aren’t staying for finals, like someone said above… what happens then? Does the 13th place band advance?

There are many examples of bands just not being announced as advancing and then the recaps show a finalist was actually 11th. If Bridgeland already communicated this, I’m sure that will be taken into account here.

Incredibly, Dawson, Taylor, Keller Central, and Wylie East all have the exact same rating on my tracking sheet. Brazoswood is only a tenth behind them! But this regional will likely be The Woodlands and then everybody else.
1. The Woodlands H.S., TX 2. Pearland H.S., TX 3. Stephen F. Austin H.S., TX 4. Oak Ridge H.S., TX 5. Cy-Fair H.S., TX 6. Seven Lakes H.S., TX 7. Dawson H.S., TX 7. James E. Taylor H.S., TX 7. Keller Central H.S., TX 7. Wylie East H.S., TX 11. Brazoswood H.S., TX 12. Dripping Springs H.S., TX 13. Klein Oak H.S., TX 14. Bridgeland H.S., TX 15. Cypress Woods H.S., TX 15. L.V. Berkner H.S., TX 17. College Park H.S., TX 18. Sandra Day O’Connor H.S., TX 19. Spring H.S., TX 20. Sachse H.S., TX 21. Klein Cain H.S., TX 22. Porter H.S., TX 23. Magnolia H.S., TX 24. Grand Oaks H.S., TX 25. Conroe H.S., TX 26. Paetow H.S., TX 27. Bridge City H.S., TX

I posted something similar in the Katy thread, but Paetow has more or less tripled in size since 2019. I think we'll be pleasantly surprised by them. They can only go so high here, but I don't think they'll be second to last. It's also worth mentioning Bridge City placed 7th at UIL 4A State last year, after advancing for the first time in 35 years. A group to watch, no doubt.
What more can we say about music education in Texas when even the LAST PLACE GROUPS are solid programs?!

Maybe a little bit of both, Hard to predict that middle range because Wylie east, jet, Dawson, and Keller central all had different years with covid, going from making covid state all the way to not doing competitions at all, definitely could see any of them going into any spots in the middle of finals.

I’m sure the precedent has changed seeming that most recently The Woodlands couldn’t attend and they advanced 11th place and Owasso had to withdraw and they advanced 11th
