Honestly though, none of those bands are ones I wouldn't mind seeing twice though either. Yeah there isn't a power band but there aren't any flops either really imo. I could see a real battle for several places here. As of right now, I'm likely going to be attending this event. I'd say Rockford has been trending towards a power band level. They are definitely trending upwards but need a signature win on the BOA stage. This could very well be the year and show for it!

Unless Lakota East or Brownsburg pull an upset, I really can’t see anyone else winning this regional. But I like to be proven wrong!

1. Rockford H.S., MI 2. Plymouth-Canton E.P., MI 3. Brownsburg H.S., IN 4. Jenison H.S., MI 5. Walled Lake Schools, MI 6. Lakota East H.S., OH 7. Lake Orion H.S., MI 8. Lake Central H.S., IN 9. Kings H.S., OH 10. Beechwood H.S., KY 11. Dublin Coffman H.S., OH 12. Central Crossing H.S., OH 13. Noblesville H.S., IN 14. Munster H.S., IN
Another tough to predict regional, although the bands appear to slot nicely into a couple of big blocks.
BLOCK A: Brownsburg, Plymouth-Canton, Rockford I think the Top 3 are set, but less than a point separates those three bands in my tracking spreadsheet. Any one of them is a threat to win it.
BLOCK B: Jenison, Lake Central, Lake Orion, Lakota East, Walled Lake Another smashed together group sits in spots 4-8, as less than a point separate THOSE five bands. Could be a lot of movement within this group, but almost two points separates Brownsburg and Jenison.
BLOCK C: Beechwood, Central Crossing, Dublin Coffman, Kings And again, only a point separates these four bands. Almost five points separates Lake Central and Kings, but with these earlier season regionals you never know what will happen.
Munster and Noblesville seem to be the odd bands out (well, not actually out) in this regional, unless they surprise.

I hate to say, but Lake Central dropped off precariously in 2019 to a point where I think they'd be able to compete they'd be in the past. I wouldn't be surprised if they were at the bottom or near to it.
Unless the departure of Witernheimer from Munster affects them greatly, Munster definitely isn't going to be last. I don't know if they'll be able to catch Lake Orion, but I'd take them over Beechwood, Kings, and Dublin Coffman. (Granted all things same from 2019)

Based upon our list we have, here is my way too early predictions.
1. PCEP (GE) 2. Rockford 3. Brownsburg H.S (Visual) 4. Lakota East (Music) 5. Jenison 6. Lake Orion 7. Walled Lake Central 8. Dublin Coffman 9. Beechwood 10. Munster 11. Lake Central 12. Noblesville 13. Central Crossing 14. Kings
I could honestly see any of my top 4 winning and in any order. The thing I notice about several of these groups is that they tend to be slow starters so that they peak at the end of the year. I'm honestly not familiar enough with Rockford enough to know how they start early season but know they have been peaking at the right time these past few seasons. Like I said before, the parity in this contest is very close and expect a heated contest which I 100% approve of.

The Illinois events will be a doozy: 9/18, their class will be Lincoln-Way and Lockport Township, 10/16 at Lincoln-Way, their class will presumably be (at the least) Lockport Township, Marian Catholic, O'Fallon Township, Prospect, maybe Plainfield North, plus maybe more. I think if they're within shouting distance of Lockport and Lincoln-Way (like under 2.5 behind), they've got a shot at finals here.

Normally I would wait until the official list rolls out, but since it’s a small regional and I don’t see the official list being much different… 1. Rockford H.S., MI 2. Plymouth-Canton H.S., MI 3. Brownsburg H.S., IN 4. Lakota East H.S., OH 5. Jenison H.S., MI 6. Walled Lake Schools, MI 7. Dublin Coffman H.S., OH 8. Lake Orion H.S., MI 9. Beechwood H.S., KY 10. Munster H.S., IN 11. Lake Central H.S., IN 12. Central Crossing H.S., OH 13. Noblesville H.S., IN 14. Kings H.S., OH Kings is being WAY undervalued in all of these predictions. While they’re a little bit smaller, they’re one of the best programs currently in SW Ohio. They haven’t done a Regional in a few years, but they added Susan Bass (retired former director at Mason) to their staff in 2019 and dominated the MSBA Class AAAA Championships. I don’t think they’re going to win the Regional or anything, but I think they’re going to surprise those of you who have them at the bottom.

The real question I have about this regional is, is it Lake OR-e-un, or Lake o-RI-un?

Kings had certainly been good in the past but without a BOA show in awhile, it's tough to judge them ATM. MSBA sheets and criteria is very different from BOA sheets. I definitely think they could jump up a few places. That would not surprise me. Especially if what Alex said was true and Lake Central is now down to 30 winds...😬😬😬. Big RIP to them. So sad such a dominate band has fallen on hard times. This is what happens when a school doesn't care about a program anymore.

The level of judging rigor varies, but the sheets are more like BOA than any other local sheets I've seen.

Patterned yes. But while there are ind judging spots for music and visual, they don't have those judges. Plus the way they determine caption awards is wonky. And we've already discussed the potential quality difference in judging it. Not really a knock on the circuit but BOA generally gets the best which is why they are at the forefront of the activity and so highly regarded.

Here are my predictions as of now. Rockford has been on an upward trend since 2018 and I think that will continue. Brownsburg and Lakota East are always solid. I have Walled Lake up here with the potential to be higher because they consolidated high school marching bands this year. The band used to be just Walled Lake Central HS, but now they've added Walled Lake Northern (or Western, I can't remember) so their numbers should be quite large and they'll be in AAAA. Same staff I believe. Jenison and PCEP are always solid, and have been neck and neck the last few years. Going off of this regional in 2019, Jenison beat PCEP head to head, but I could see either of them edging out the other. The rest of the list is kind of a crapshoot for me but I know that Dublin and Kings are really good groups. I know MSBA is a bit different than BOA, but Kings won the AAAA MSBA championship in 2019, which is the 2nd largest division. I could honestly see Lake Orion anywhere from 5th to 10th, but I had to put them somewhere. I always enjoy what they bring to the table and I'm excited to see them. As for the rest, Beechwood is always good and the staff knows what they're doing at this point. The last 4 groups could shuffle any way. It's hard to predict with our last results being 2 years in the past, but I did my best here.
1: Rockford H.S., MI 2: Brownsburg H.S., IN 3: Lakota East H.S., OH 4: Walled Lake Schools, MI 5: Jenison H.S., MI 6: Plymouth-Canton E.P., MI 7: Dublin Coffman H.S., OH 8: Kings H.S., OH 9: Lake Orion H.S., OH 10: Beechwood H.S., KY 11: Lake Central H.S., IN 12: Central Crossing H.S., OH 13: Munster H.S., IN 14: Noblesville, H.S., IN

Brownsburg had a pretty good show in 2020 (it was sort of A la BA 2013 Utopia). I'd say they are about even - might come down to who is just stronger early out of the gate. Both were in the teens at semis in 2019 - no small feat.

St. Edward (from Lakewood, OH) is a football powerhouse. It's extremely strange if they don't make a deep playoff run (probably 10+ state semifinal [or better] appearances since I started HS). Not sure if their band has ever been to a BOA event, but that's 100% just off the top of my head
