Brownsburg is definitely a huge stand-out out of all the performances so far.

Wow, I can’t believe how small Lake Central is What happened? Several director & staff changes in such a short timespan created extreme instability within the program. On the other hand it’s amazing to see how much the Brownsburg program has grown in the last few years! This is a great show and they are the front runner for the gold today IMO. Great prelims run!

The foodie in me loves PCEP's show design and costumes. I don't think i've ever seen a band pull off a restaurant-themed show?? Anyhow, the show is very demanding and entertaining; hopefully they will be able to clean up everything by the end of season, but right now it is lacking a bit of precision and finesse.

Walled Lake is definitely not as big as I expected considering the combined bands. Makes me sad to know numbers in participation are dwindling in many schools across the nation Keep in mind that most programs are smaller than usual due to COVID. While some of the strongest BOA programs are at roughly the same size pre-COVID, the overwhelming majority of programs (in and out of BOA) are smaller, and I anticipate them staying smaller for at least a few more years (e.g., think about all the beginning band kids that didn't sign up last year or this year due to remote learning).

There was an indoor percussion group as well that I was thinking of… maybe it was an Italian restaurant? It bothers me that I can’t think of it. I know it was a Josh Wendt group if that helps.

Depends on Rockford and Lakota East's performances first Through all the performances up til now, would you put them 2nd behind Brownsburg? Sorry, I want to watch performances but unable to. Jenison's show design was absolutely fantastic. I'm really enjoying the programming from the past two years and hope that design team stays for a long time. Is it the same staff they've had for years prior? This year feels like quite a departure from where I remember them being as recently as even five years ago (to me that's a good thing - it was really fresh). There are some very noticeable areas for improvement. The things that could be holding Jenison back right now are easily fixable in my opinion, but I worry about one in particular that I feel has been an issue for years. Their high brass performance is lacking quite a bit of control and clarity. Right now they're simply not matching the performance from the woodwinds, for instance (the woodwinds were absolutely the highlight for me!). Need to work on intonation and air support quite a bit. There were also quite a few small tempo tears between the percussion and winds, mostly from the front ensemble (the auxiliary in particular). The drumline is also noticeably smaller, and the snare tuning creates an awfully thin sound that isn't quite balanced with the full ensemble. The heads seem too cranked. I'm waiting to see how others do this afternoon, but right now I have them outside top 3 until they are able to address some of those items. I could see this show turning into something really special by the end of the season.

Beechwood was sounded quite good, especially given their size.

Beechwood was sounded quite good, especially given their size. Agreed! I am very surprised by the volume and quality at that size. It's really disheartening to see them out there with about half the winds they had prior to COVID, but it seems like they have a really solid foundation for future years. Easily in finals so far, in my opinion.

There are a lot of fantastic moments for Lakota East, especially as a full ensemble. I don't see them ahead of Brownsburg, but should be top 3.

Thought Kings was doing a great job keeping in balance and control until the big hit in the ballad. They definitely had a shot for finals until that moment

Rockford was REALLY good. Music caption will likely go to them tonight. I think GE may go to Brownsburg, but overall Rockford's show was much cleaner and better executed.
My predictions going into Finals: Rockford Brownsburg Lakota East Jenison Goshen Walled Lake PCEP Lake Orion Dublin Coffman Beechwood Nordonia Bourbon County

Rockford was pretty darn strong. They had a couple of balance issues with the electronics, but it was a really solid performance. I'm thinking top 2 is them and Brownsburg, with Brownsburg on top. From there I'm kind of stumped, and can see any combination of Lakota East, Jenison, Goshen, and Beechwood in the next group, though likely in that order (I missed PCEP so presume they slot in there somewhere).

Brownsburg, Lakota East and Rockford are my top 3 after watching prelims. I also think Walled Lake and Jenison should place fairly well.

I'm unsure of where Beechwood would place as they executed really well, but not sure how high GE will be. I can definitely see them as high as 7th. PCEP honestly was a bit of a mess... you could tell the music was very difficult, but there was a lot of blasting out of control (serious balance and intonation issues). Not sure where they will place either based on how judges value music difficulty over execution and GE.
