Norwin has a cool program, but something about the balance in the winds just seems off. The brass in particular somehow felt simultaneously reserved and crass. Time to get those kids into breathing block, plenty of time left in the season.

Look up their 2020 show on youtube if you want to see where they were last year. This is actually an improvement but woof.

James Madison now having trouble with their electronics in their pre-show. I have to assume there's something wrong with the venue given the number of electronics issues so far.

If I was deaf, Norwin would win this Regional. Unfortunately I'm not deaf and they sounded bad (for Norwin standards). I was going to say...Norwin (in my time) always had some of the best tone. The mics didn't work for the opening sax solo and the sound throughout lacked fullness Watch out, their director once showed up a prior forum to rip on somebody who critiqued them

Im interested in how Cleveland does just because it's about the only litmus on where the other NC bands are, most of whom nixed BOA completely but will complete with Cleveland here.
I think Cape Fear is in one but they are not particularly competitive these days.

How was Madison musically? I always enjoy them. I thought they sounded pretty good and music book was enjoyable too. Visual was definitely the bigger concern from what I could tell.

I know someone wrote they were surprised that susquehannock made finals but they have had by far the most balanced sound of any of the beginning bands. I’m in person.

I was pleasantly surprise by Susquehannock in prelims and they did nothing to change my opinion tonight. Well designed show for a band their size and I hope they don't get 12th tonight because they deserve to be higher.

MUCH MUCH better performance from Norwin tonight. Still has a lot of room to grow musically but much clearer and energized tonight. They could easily be in contention for the visual award too.

I should clarify that while I was surprised to see Susquehannock's name on the list, I didn't see them earlier today. My surprise was just based on what I know about them and have seen in prior years, where I didn't think they were previously quite at that level. Great to hear they so deserving of finals.

Congratulations to Kiski Area HS on regional win number 21 (I think I counted them all). These regionals are evenly distributed over a 33 year period. For those trivia buffs, Kiski is the band with the most BOA regionals title who has never won a Grand National title.

So you'd think Kiski and Cleveland have a shot at playing twice in Indy based on this. Kiski probably a given.
The margins are pretty big from 1-2 and 2-3.

Oh wait, it's Norwin and not Kiski at Nats. Given the margins I'd say neither Cleveland or Norwin is a given unless Kiski is super strong.
