Can we appreciate the fact that all of the out-of-state bands made finals? I’m sure this experience feels well worth the trip for all of them!

Paragould in the top half!? Not at all surprised. They had a great run. I would say 5th or 6th.

If I’m correctly understanding what you’re asking, the wind and visual designer prefer to keep their clientele close to the chest but Cole Williams does the percussion book, Brian Dutton I believe helps with programming and colorguard. I can’t remember the show name but it’s electricity/Tesla inspired.

Final predictions after this weekend’s contests (and Catawba Ridge’s “surprise” dominance in South Carolina): 6. Catawba Ridge H.S., SC This aged remarkably well. Y’all thought I was cray cray.

This, however, did not age very well. I think we all underestimated them! What a phenomenal day they’ve had.

I admittedly only caught Tarpon from this regional today, but I'm really surprised to see Stoneman Douglas' name down in 12th. I always thought they were a strong band and that the addition of Dean Broadbent and Flanagan's old director would result in even more competitive success. They have some pretty big names on staff this year.
Edit: Not sure why I just noticed this, but also interesting to not see Park Vista in attendance this year.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe the former guard director went to Park Vista, but no idea if he is still there as the only one I see on their staff page is Adam Sage (listed as co-director).

Congratulations to Tarpons Springs. This is regional win number 23. WOW! Tarpon has the third highest number of regional titles, behind Norwin (29) and Carmel (24). Tarpon won their first regional title in 1998. Since then, they have won at least one regional title every competitive season except three (2007, 2013 and 2019).

I believe Catawba Ridge is the first band this season to overcome the break to place in the top half from the bottom half.

Why was Park Vista not here? Scheduling conflict. Their FMBC home show was yesterday. These local show results from last week suggest that Park Vista may be in a rebuilding year. I wonder if we would've even seen PV in finals had they competed in Orlando yesterday. (FMBC) John I Leonard Lancer Jamboree Greenacres, FL: John I Leonard High School Class 3A: (70-99 members) 76.450: Jupiter High School, FL (Best General Effect and Color Guard) 76.000: Park Vista Community High School, FL (Best Music and Visual) 73.000: Cypress Bay High School, FL (Best Percussion) 58.300: Lake Worth High School, FL [...] Class 5A: (146+ members) 80.750: Stoneman Douglas High School, FL* (Winning All Captions) (Best Color Guard and Percussion) (Orlando)

But since Independence (6th in prelims) didn't participate in finals, Bellevue West was in the "top 6" going into finals.

Was able to watch Tarpon and Timber Creek. Neat to see Tarpon's modern take on the Wizard of Oz inspired show. I was also impressed with Timber Creek. I will admit I got them confused with Cypress Creek at first. Timber Creek was a finalist at a couple of the Florida regionals in the early 2000s (Cypress Creek had much more success back then, hence my confusion). Since BOA's 2018 return to Florida, Timber Creek has returned to BOA regional finals. This year was a notable improvement over 2019. While I was sad not to see Park Vista, I was happy to see another Florida band rise up the ranks (perhaps a band to keep an eye on in the coming years).

It was a long day. Seems strange to say that this was a competition I have been looking forward to all season, but it snuck up on me extremely quickly and unexpectedly.
Unexpected construction in the stadium had changed the logistics of the event significantly shortly before the event started, and that became very evident throughout the day. The parking situation quickly forced half of the bands' trucks with pit equipment to park on the other side of the stadium, away from the designated warm-up area. At that point, the call was made to allow the pit to warm up and practice on the other side of the stadium instead needing to to haul their instruments in a 90° heat in high humidity. Thankfully, things seemed to go smoothly for the remainder of the prelims.
Congrats to Tarpon Springs on the regional win.
A special thank you to Oakleaf, to whom I had asked a lot of them over the course of the day and gracefully accepted each odd request. Congrats on the regional final finish.
Thank you to UCF and the UCF volunteer coordinator, for sending their volunteers. For how Superman/woman/them-esque the BOA staff can be, how well a regional is run can be make-or-break on the volunteers. For the entire day, the UCF band members all received, performed, and exceeded beyond their roles graciously and splendidly. A special thank you to the 5 members and an alumni that had stepped in and helped during the finals when warm-ups were in absolute dire straits- a serious deficiency was totally neutralized by your help. (Thank you also to the extra UCF volunteer that was also working during finals near the stadium)
This is the end of the road for me this season as far as volunteering goes. Aside from all circumstances, I would've been on pins and needles days before the event not long ago. Life was still a little difficult so band was one of the few things I had to look forward to. My schedule would've been filled all season long with these events, but we all know how the past year had turned out.* Seems strange to be in such a different period of time, but after this weekend, I'm happy that volunteering has been in life as long as it has already.
*(I'm happy to say that wasn't the main reason for me cutting back on volunteering this year, but rather due to multiple positive life events that require my time and attention.)

They already changed band directors a few years ago, but that new director recently left as well, so they have to undergo a second band director shift. That fact, combined with COVID, may have made it difficult to advertise to incoming freshman and to maintain current members. PV also recently got a new principal, which I imagine could have added extra difficulties for a new band director. Park Vista is now a 3A band in the FMBC circuit, where they've been a 5A band every year they've competed at BOA. So this really is a rebuilding year for them. As a PV alumni, I really hope to see them rebuild soon.
