Most Bands, AnyState USA - Whatever was originally planned for 2020 I can tell you from personal experience, you’d be surprised at how many are not able to field their original show ideas this year.

Most Bands, AnyState USA - Whatever was originally planned for 2020 the only caveat being that some bands may do different shows in Texas this fall from what they had planned in 2020 based on it being a UIL year. This year will be an unusual year in that it will be a UIL year for all 6 classifications in the state rather than the normal every other year schedule. This makes me think some bands (like Leander) might NOT do the show they originally had planned for 2020 although I’ll be thrilled to see Long Strange Trip this fall if that’s what Leander decides to do.

To all my Northern Friends, Your weather is here drunk on my yard. Please come down here and get it! Sincerely, TEXAS Pssh. I've grown used to the negative temperatures in the Chicago area and the possible ~20+ inches of snow we might accumulate this week. Ah, lake effect snow. Bring it on!

I used to love the cold and snow but it's just a nuisance to me now! I'll take the 100+ temps and sweat my heart out. Maybe I should set all my work aside and try to enjoy it while it's here though.

Make that 25, with a possible 16 on Thursday. And I don't own a snow blower yet. LOL.

I wouldn’t be surprised since I didn’t put much critical analysis into an off handed joke on a message board. But thanks for over analyzing a 2 bit one liner. Sometimes it is ok to chuckle and just move on.

I’m actually fine with the cold, and the snow- if we could keep the electricity and heat on! That’s the problem... cold + no heat multiplied by lots of non insulated water pipes in attics and yards (sprinklers and pools)= no fun

To all my Northern Friends, Your weather is here drunk on my yard. Please come down here and get it! Sincerely, TEXAS I'm done with winter weather. I've been in Tx for 21 years now. I'm okay with the cold, but don't want to deal with snow and ice. I'm from MA originally and have lived in PA and OH. In fact when I was in OH I lived in a neighborhood right behind Beavercreek HS and use to listen to their band practice. My kids were toddlers at the time and little did I know band was in their future.

I take it back. We got our snowboard and had a good time going down hills. Relatives spent the night because they didn't have power. Sorry that this thread has turned into one about snow 🤭

Sorry that this thread has turned into one about snow 🤭 it’s on a lot of people’s minds right now so it’s not surprising that we would veer off topic a bit this week. I pray that everyone gets back to some semblance of normal very soon!

Sorry that this thread has turned into one about snow 🤭 Well let's speculate. I'm going to guess that "Winter" will be a VERY UNpopular theme among Texas marching bands for the 2021 season.

Mason already did the ultimate Winter show in 2011. The fact that it snowed during their GN prelims performance sealed the deal.

I agree. I see Texas programs more UIL circuit centric in 2021 imo. 5a/6A programs considering BOA SA, State and GNats are looking at 7 performances in a 9 day span 1,200 miles apart! I just don’t see many school districts allowing much travel and days away from school considering our Covid environment.

Why is Wine Dark Sea so popular in the marching arts? john mackey John Mackey's picky about who performs his music, but not so much that most decent requests for the music usually go on the field without a hitch. Wine Dark Sea, thankfully, is one of the few pieces has not been too overplayed yet and I very much look forward to seeing Wakeland take on the music.

John Mackey is not in any way picky about who performs his music on the field. If you pay the money, you can do his work. He is very open about it. He gave a great interview with Andy from Flomarching at Grand Nationals a couple years ago (I think it was the year West Salem played Wine-Dark-Sea) about why his music translates so well to the field.

Woe be to the band that doesn't pay him for the rights though. He at least used to have the reputation of sifting through band videos on Youtube himself to find groups using his music without permission.

If someone was stealing your property, wouldn’t you go to efforts to deter them from doing so?
