I noticed on Homestead's band website that they are still hosting their Fall festival and the ISSMA show in 2021. I am a bit surprised considering the construction taking place there and the fact that the parking lot is all torn up. But they show them on their calendar. They also have a couple of band camp photos. Numbers seem a bit down by my count.

It's not a surprise to me that they are still hosting these events. ISSMA does not like to change venues if they can help it. As for numbers, I'm generally not at all worked about that. I'm sure a lot of programs are having a lower year due to the pandemic having bands miss a year. Plus, they don't need 250 to still be great ya negative Nancy lol

They are not any lower than last year number wise and have the same number of winds on the field as 2018 & 2019 (135 range). Stop your worrying π€ͺ
It will be interesting to see how the competitions are handled at HHS. Itβs definitely a huge mess around the school right now due to the construction and it certainly seems like it will be a logistical nightmare for the parent volunteers. I am sure it will all work out in the long run though.

Don't you try and have a parade in my rain storm. But I guess with regards to the competitions, it's great that they are still holding them. Good fund raisers and all. But the normal areas where they would be parking band busses and trucks are are under construction. I suppose they'll figure it out. Interesting to see them going down to Lawrence Central for their first competition. Obviously this has a lot to do with Warfield being an alum, but still it will be interesting to see who else is there and will be a good departure from the usual early season routine.

It'll definitely be a good early feedback from some well regarded judges. Avon and other big name groups wouldn't go otherwise really. I'm just hoping Homestead will be able to take at least one caption from Avon in a regular season invite sometime haha. Love Avon but always gotta root for my Alma Mater!

ISSMA does not like to change venues if they can help it. And locks themselves in to some marginal venues because of it.

So when I stopped by Homestead a few days ago, I wanted to check on the progress of the renovations (which are coming along nicely) as well as the parking situation since that was a concern. Overall, I think it will still be okay. Most of the parking is still available at the 9th grade academy side and the parking that was torn up by the school already has it's replacement finished across from the band practice field. My guess is that that is where the new bus parking will be for bands. If so, talk about either learning how to tune out distractions from other bands as Homestead practices (as they often do before home performances), or intimidation to those bands watching them practice lol. Additionally, the parking across the street at Summit middle school hasn't changed much either. If additional parking is necessary (such as they are needing more bus parking and take up these spots), I'm sure the spectator parking could be moved from these places to possibly the Catholic Church St. Elizabeth Anne Seaton across the road or the park/YMCA. It's a small hike and they could probably do shuttle service for them as some schools do when spectator parking is not generally close.

I could see that new lot being used for band staging. There is also an access road that runs behind the football stadium connecting the south football parking lot (near the old Indian Meadows building) and the new north football parking lot. It really is amazing to see the school changing. The view from the stadium really is different these days.
