I watched the Brownsburg livestream and I will say I'm not all that impressed with Carmel. It's early season and you can never count them out, but I see them struggling this year at nationals given the lineup.
The real stars of the night for me was Brownsburg in exhibition. Their sound absolutely blew me away, especially for this point in the season. Their show design kept me on the edge of my seat. I'm expecting Brownsburg to have their best year yet, maybe even making a late season push at grand nationals. That BOA Toledo title is looking very wide open and Brownsburg seems like the clear favorites based on their Saturday performance.

BOA should just mail Brownsburg their first place trophy right now.

It's early season and you can never count them out, but I see them struggling this year at nationals given the lineup. Well, it's only one non-BOA show, so the algorithm is frowning at the tiny sample size and the p-value is insane... ...but based on the results of the Brownsburg show, Carmel is (so far) statistically on track to score 93.350 at Grand National Finals. An outstanding year for most bands, but that would be Carmel's lowest Finals score since 2010 if it holds (and almost certainly not good enough for the Top 5). But really, all of the algorithm's numbers are served with grains of salt until mid-late October because there's just not enough data in the spreadsheet.

Considering the Covid climate we are all facing your statistical 93.335 might just be enough to win GN. Young, Wever and GAINES account for 60% of that BOA score! My Texas sensibilities tell me they are legacy design and will always bring it year to year. I would not be surprised if they even take BOA Nats. Definitely Top 5 imo.

I agree it is to early to prognosticate. I was at the show, and while Carmel didn't set the world on fire, the potential is obviously there. They didn't have enough of the show on the field to tell a story yet.
