Editor's Note: Many states have their own dedicated threads including Ohio and Kentucky have their own respective threads for local competitions, please use those. Indiana show information belongs in the Indiana sub folder.
Hello everyone. The marching season is upon us! Use this thread to post any and all local show results. Indiana contests start tomorrow but if you see stuff for Ohio, Illinois, Kentucky, Florida, etc, feel free to post! We all love to see what's going on. Lake Park Lancer Joust: Class 2A 2:15 PM: Warren Township North Knights Marching Festival Class 2A 1:48 PM: Oak Creek, WI Is this standard Chicagoland sizing? Where Class 2A is like 68-95 performers? Ouch. Both of these bands were over 200 members not too long ago.

Ouch. Both of these bands were over 200 members not too long ago. Lake Park is 65-96 winds and percussion, yes. Grayslake North is 100+ members for AA. Warren Township changed it to juniors and seniors only (symphonic and Almond concert band), and freshmen and sophomores can be in if they make symphonic band.

Final results from Lawrence Central can be found in the Indiana thread since the mods didn't want the contests to be consolidated in one spot. It was a great show with perfect weather. Band is back baby!

Eden Prairie's score is a bit of a yikes, and they're also down to about 85 kids. They were twice that size just a few years ago. Hopefully this is just the "year off" effect and they bounce back. And look at Blaine go! They were 6th of 8 bands in Class A at Eastview in 2019 and have historically been towards the bottom of the placements at Minnesota competitions pre-pandemic.

That's really disappointing to hear. I hope they're able to bounce back. They always struck me as a band that could really take off at some point. As an aside, their guard produced an incredibly creative and impressive show in the Scholastic Open division for the 2021 virtual season. I was hoping this level of performance would carry over to the entire band program.

( USBands) Bethel's Quest for the BestBethel, CT: Bethel High School (Waiting on results)*USBands has cancelled Group VI for the 2021 season* *For the first two weeks only, USBands will suspend Class A and Open* *For the first two weeks only, USBands will follow a rating system of Good, Excellent, Outstanding, Superior.* Group I: ( 1-39 members) Love this format and level of detail, especially since a lot of people outside the Northeast don't know how divisions work up here. Appreciate you pulling this together in this format. One point of clarity for the non-Northeast folks: USBands and Cavalcade's classification system is based on total members, whereas TOB and PIMBA's division sizes are based on playing members only (guard and drum majors excluded). However, TOB also places a maximum on guard members up to the same maximum number of playing members. For example, Division 3 is 51-75 playing members, and they are also capped at 75 guard. This is an interesting distinction, but it dates back to at least the 90s when some bands in the lower classifications fielded absolutely enormous guards compared to playing members, creating a bit of an unfair visual advantage within the division. I wish I could remember the Division 1 band's name, but they had something like 30-40 playing members and at least as many in the guard. It was kind of wild to watch. USBands cutting a division seemed like the right call, and I don't just mean for this year. Division 6 had already been shrinking since they've kept the number in the 135-140 range. Bands in the Northeast are simply not that big, and that's their primary market. Anything over 100 is considered big in a normal non-COVID adjusted year. There have been some bands historically playing up into larger divisions even without the membership to support it, so I'm curious to see where they land this year.

Those points are not normally that wide considering how early it is in the season. No videos, but pictures from their FB page www.facebook.com/rhsmarchingband . That's a very different looking Rosemount. Class AAA: 1. Rosemount H.S., MN 83.95 2. Brandon Valley H.S., SD 75.60 3. Eden Prairie H.S., MN 74.70 4. Marshall H.S., MN 71.50

It was the right call but I don't see why they it raised Group V to 100+ when it was 96-129 before. Right now there are only 3 bands in V Open Nationals and 9 bands in IV Open which all of them are from Group V bands in 2019 including Norwalk. If they had left Group VI alone this could have been South Brunswick first time winning Group VI Open Nationals (they always get 2nd place), it's has been 12 years since the last NJ band won VI Open Nationals, but now they will have to go up against Dartmouth. Back then Usbands had Group VI bands from 136 and above, then from (2007-2010) it was 142 members and + then it went back to normal to 136+, later USBands dropped it again to 130 members and above. I was alway confused on how George Walton Academy (GA) was able to compete in VI Open when they were about the size of a Group IV band.

09/11/21 Eastview Marching Band Festival Eagan, MN: Eagan High School *Due to the construction of the new turf field, the venue has moved to Eagan H.S.

(WSMA) Northern Lights Marching Classic Cumberland, WI: Cumberland High School Class A: 72.700: Irondale Sr. High School, MN (Best Music, Visual, Percussion, and General Effect) 68.350: Baldwin-Woodville High School, WI (Best Color Guard) Exhibition: St. Croix Falls High School, WI Exhibition: Arcadia High School, WI
Class AA: 68.775: Merrill High School, WI (Winning All Captions)
Class AAA: 73.225: River Falls High School, WI (Winning All Captions and Grand Champs)
Class AAAA: 62.450: Chippewa Falls High School, WI (Winning All Captions) Exhibition: Hudson High School, WI
Regarding Minnesota, the Marshall H.S. that competes is Marshall H.S. from Marshall, MN in the SW part of the state, not John Marshall H.S. from Rochester. Regarding Wisconsin, there was a classification mix-up at this show, as WSMA shows are classified based on school enrollment. Irondale should have been AAAA.

Seeing them this small and with that score is depressing. As fas I know, Eden Prairie high school is one of the biggest in Minnesota, so hopeful that this is just a COVID related temporary down year.

I was alway confused on how George Walton Academy (GA) was able to compete in VI Open when they were about the size of a Group IV band. The Northeast has really struggled with fielding Group VI bands for years now, unfortunately. Some of the mid-Atlantic bands were able to round out the population, but it was still a struggle. It really is unfortunate to see such few participants even with the top division now reduced to 100 members. I suppose the idea with raising Group V to 100 members was to right-size the divisions (Group V absorbs all of Group VI and Group IV would theoretically absorb some of the smaller Group V bands). Even before this, there were very few bands in Group VI and a ton of bands in the lower divisions, so the imbalance was very obvious. I just don't think anybody envisioned practically ALL of the Group V and Group VI bands dropping quite as much as they did, though I suppose it doesn't help we're not seeing any New York or mid-Atlantic bands attending, either. Walton is one of the bands that always played up a division (sometimes two). John P. Stevens was another for the couple of seasons when they dipped below the threshold, though it wasn't quite as noticeable as they were always right on the cusp. Dartmouth has played up a division on a couple of occasions, and Mechanicsburg has also played up a division in the past. Blackstone played up a division into Group VI for a couple of years, and some of the local chatter was so they had less competition in their division in local competitions (typical disclaimer on "word of mouth" and how it could just be bogus). Their biggest band was ~135 in 2010 (impressive for a school with only ~450 students), so they were right on the cusp that year, but their other largest bands when they were in Group VI were in the 120-125 range. Liverpool has also often played in Group VI, even when their membership was in the 110-115 range. I'm pretty sure Dartmouth is below the Group V threshold this year, or at best right on the cusp. They dipped into Group IV range last year, and that's with them fielding ~20 middle schoolers as they typically do. If they played in Group IV that would mean only two in Group V, even with the reduced divisions. John P Stevens looks to be about 150 members this year based on their facebook video, and I'm sure South Brunswick is still somewhere in the 100s, though nowhere near the size they used to be in the early-mid 2000s.

I seem to recall they are usually a great small band with a huge guard, even to this day. Alleghany is definitely one of them, but not the one I was trying to remember. I do know their guard has always outnumbered their winds (35 guard vs 29 winds in 2015, for instance), so they're a prime example of why the rule exists. Great small band, for sure (lots of them in TOB). I will remember the band I was thinking of some day. I distinctly remember them having somewhere close to 40 guard with less than 40 total playing members. Going to flip through the TOB history when I have time to see if anything rings a bell.
