Only Marshall uses that class system, and it's actually based on band size from smallest to largest. The MBOS circuit in Nevada does the same thing only with gemstone names.

Oh I figured it was still based upon some kind of system like school or band size, but I just like the fact that the naming convention doesn't overtly contribute to some kind of bias at first glance if you are not familiar with all of these groups. You hear A vs AAAA or A vs D and for many make an automatic assumption that that smaller class is going to be....well....not good. You tell me Ivory vs Gold....I have no idea lol.

Yeah… my jaw dropped when I saw those results. Having not seen any videos from either group, I wonder if it’s a fluke or if things have really changed that much between the two groups.

To another point you had, I would argue Oak Creek is truly neck and neck with Greendale. Where Oak Creek far exceeds Greendale in musicality and quality of sound, Greendale far exceeds Oak Creek in design and GE. If Oak Creek brought their design aesthetic out of the 90s and into the 2020s (the statement is true for most marching bands in Wisconsin) they’d handily be the best band in the state by a good margin.

I don't have the classes for Irondale. Since classifications at most Minnesota contests are at the director's discretion, some bands change classes during the course of the season. Everyone before the intermission should be Class A, and I expect Marshall would be the only AAA (Lakeville South was AAA at Waseca, but is signed up for Class A at Rosemount and look to be Class A here). That leaves the others as AA, presumably, with the only question mark for me being Osseo, who is usually Class A.

This is an absolutely mind-blowing result. Pre-2020, Mukwonago was a small band with a killer drumline but not much else. Oak Creek was a powerhouse of 200 kids, probably the 2nd-best band in the state after Greendale. Mukwonago's last full season was in 2017: at state championships, Oak Creek beat them 87.875 to 71.175. Mukwonago competed only once in 2018 and not at all in 2019 that I can see.

I wonder if Mukwonago has gotten a lot better, Oak Creek has fallen off drastically, or both. I'll be watching their scores this season.

I wonder if penalties are at play here. For example, look at the differences in the score margin between Sauk Prairie and Portage within 24 hours of each other:

Ironically, the 5th Sioux Falls school is Jefferson, which just opened a month ago. But yes, as Dan mentioned, the president schools are the public schools, O'Gorman is a private catholic school.

Their school was plopped down in the highest growth area of Cary. And they have the only truly established band director in the town for now.
