A few people did stuff like this about two years ago, but with everything starting up again, it might be interesting to see where rankings in each state stand at now:
A couple states that didn't get a ton of talk last time around:
Georgia (would really like to see people's thoughts on this one) North Carolina Tennessee South Carolina Florida California

I think it's a tad too early to make any proper rankings, but I think it'd be extremely interesting to see how the 2019 state rankings these forums did look like in comparison with how they'll look in mid October of this year.

I'm more than willing to do this once there is some data on the season. Most states just started last week or the week before. California doesn't start until October.

Will you do something similar to your rankings from other threads? As in, use multiple years of scores and data from local and BOA shows?

Would love to see the whole calculation/overall rankings things I’ve seen you talk about.

I'm gonna take my shot at a few states, I know I'll be WAY off on some of these because no one knows how COVID affected some bands, but I wanna see how bad my rankings look by the end of October.
Georgia 1. Harrison 2. Walton 3. Kennesaw Mountain 4. Mill Creek 5. KellGrove 6. Milton 7. Alan C. Pope
South Carolina 1. Wando 2. James F. Byrnes 3. Summerville 4. Fort Mill 5. Nation Ford 6. River Bluff 7. Clover
Florida 1. Tarpon Springs 2. Park Vista 3. Stoneman Douglas 4. Windermere 5. Timber Creek 6. University 7. West Broward

I tend to only include local shows (not BOA) in local rankings. I keep separate rankings for each year and generally only pull in prior years for "overall" rankings.

Michigan Top 5 (it’s early in the season)
1. Rockford 2. Jenison 3. Walled Lake Schools 4. Plymouth-Canton 5. Reeths-Puffer
A more detailed list will come as we get further into the season, but for right now, this is the Top 5, and Lake Orion is probably 6.

Ohio Top 12
This is early on, and I am certain that I’ll have to update after next weekend’s Toledo regional. I also feel like I’m missing a band or two, but this is just off the top of my head:
1. William Mason 2. Centerville 3. Lakota East 4. Lakota West 5. Worthington Kilbourne 6. Miamisburg 7. Forest Hills 8. Milford 9. Dublin Coffman 10. Hilliard Bradley 11. Kettering Fairmont 12. Central Crossing

I'll do Austin Area early rankings now that we've had a couple contests. Order is based mostly on results, the tier gaps I put are based more on opinion.
1) Vandegrift ----- 2) Rouse 3) Cedar Park 4) Vista Ridge 5) Cedar Ridge 6) Leander ----- 7) Round Rock 8) Westlake 9) James Bowie 10) Westwood ----- 11) Weiss 12) Lake Travis 13) Johnson (Buda) 14) Hendrickson ----- 15) Anderson 16) McCallum 17) McNeil 18) Dripping Springs 19) Jack C. Hays 20) Austin 21) LASA 22) Georgetown ----- 23) John B. Connally 24) Hutto 25) Pflugerville
Next 5: Bastrop, Burnet, Crockett, Lehman, Stony Point

I also feel like I’m missing a band or two, but this is just off the top of my head: ... 12. Central Crossing One quick thought: Central Crossing was fourth on Saturday behind three bands not on your list. Sure it was OMEA, but I bet the majority of people here, had they been at that event, would agree with me that the judges' decision was 67% correct. Maybe later in the season Central Crossing will be better than Beavercreek and Brunswick, but they're not now.
(And a week earlier, Brunswick lost to Amherst Steele, although it was close and I thought it should go the other way. Then later on Saturday, Nordonia was fourth behind Beavercreek and Brunswick with a score two points higher than what Central Crossing had earned vs. those bands earlier in the day, but not knowing the top scores that evening, I'm not sure how the gap differed. Personally I thought Nordonia was comparable to Central Crossing in quality.)

It’s really rough seeing Dripping Springs so low on the Austin list. I’ll look at it in greater depth later but I’m honestly stumped on what happened to them.
They didn’t have any major director changes or anything like that and yet they’ve been slipping in quality a little. They were the main challenge to the LISD’s UIL dominance before but not so much now.

Gotcha, I don't think it was anything in particular, every band goes through ups and downs even with the same staff. The depth of competition there was at 5A state in 2019 compared to 2017 also shouldn't be understated.

IIRC Dripping Springs was David Duffy's band a few years back when he moved to Texas. After some complications between him and the administration (some of which he had no control over), he decided to move on.
David Duffy works with Jeremy Spicer often and helped coordinate Vandegrift's program. He's very plugged into the activity and the loss of his connections hurt Dripping Springs considerably.

You are absolutely right. I knew I was forgetting at least one band. I’d definitely have both Pickerington North and Beavercreek ahead of Central Crossing.

I don't remember how long he was there but it was not of significant duration.

Missouri
1. Blue Springs (AAAA)* 2. Camdenton (AA) 3. Nixa (AAA) 4. Fort Zumwalt North (AA) 5. Grain Valley (AA) 6. Blue Springs South (AAA) 7. Rockwood Summit (AA) 8. Kickapoo (AAA)
9. Lafayette (AAA) 10. Lindbergh (AAA) 11. Timberland (AAA) 12. Wentzville Holt (AAA)
By BOA Class:
A 1. Hollister
AA 1. Camdenton 2. Fort Zumwalt North 3. Grain Valley
AAA 1. Nixa 2. Blue Springs South 3. Kickapoo
AAAA 1. Blue Springs*
Interesting Points: - As of 2019, there were no class AAAA competitive bands in Missouri that participated in BOA. The largest school district in the state is Blue Springs, which as of 2021 is now a AAAA band, with roughly 1800 students 10-12, firmly cementing it in the largest class. - The bands ranked below Kickapoo received a II rating at either St. Louis or Indianapolis in 2019. Kickapoo and above received I ratings. - The largest class representation in the top 12 is AAA, with 7 bands, followed by four bands in AA. A is not represented. - There are two Grand National semifinalists from Missouri, and one finalist. (Camdenton and Blue Springs, respectively).
*When compiling this ranking, Blue Springs was in class AAA in the competitions used; however, for ranking purposes, I am placing the band in its 2021 current class.
Analysis was conducted via scores from three 2019 BOA events: St. Louis, Indianapolis, and Cedar Falls.

Their first competition of the season is BOA - Cedar Falls. They have cancelled their first two local contests in the Chicago area. We will have a better idea of ranking after the Lincoln-Way Invitational in mid-October. O'Fallon Township is participating at this contest in the Chicago area, along with Marian Catholic, Lockport Township, Prospect, Victor J. Andrew, and Lake Park. [/quote]

Marian Catholic is currently experiencing transportation issues. This has been major issue with public school bands due to bus driver shortage. Many bands are having to drop out of comps last minute. Schools are having to use charter bus services. A private school, like Marian, who are going through enrollment issues must feel this even worst. I would have loved to see then debut sooner, but Covid-19 effects bands in different ways.
