Sleep on Fishers at your peril. 30th does no justice to them.

Union scored more than 2 points below Jenks in finals and a point in prelims at Owasso, but both are in next 10. Bixby scored higher than Union in both prelims and finals, and scored within a point of Jenks in prelims but didn't make next 10. In all honesty, I don't think Bixby or Union should be on this list right now based on what I saw last week, but if Union is there, Bixby definitely should be. No gripes other than that though

I'm most surprised to see Wylie East in the next 10. They are great, but I can think of another 10-15 Texas bands pretty easily that probably deserve to be ahead of them. Not to mention out of state groups.

Yeah you're right about not seeing them on the list.

Any band outside of TX, with the exception of a few at the top, is lucky to make this list right now!

In that case I won’t mention how many times I’ve been around the block. 👵 But seriously, I hope I never get too old to enjoy all this.

As far as Oklahoma bands go in this ranking, Broken Arrow is at a good place as we haven’t seen anything from them yet. I will say, I have high hopes from their show announcement/uniform reveal. It feels like a return to the Broken Arrow we love, and I have a feeling they will not finish the season in 5th. For now, though, it works.
I agree that Union is probably on their way out this coming week. Hopefully they will continue pushing and make a good showing at St. Louis and OBA. Such a historic program, I just want to see them prosper.
Jenks is killing it this year. I think they deserve a spot in the top 33 right now given their recent performances. Knowing that they aren’t attending any late year BOA events (or any at all for that matter), they are likely to fall off the list in a few weeks, so now’s the time to have them a little higher up.
Bixby is definitely a band to watch as we get closer to St. Louis. With Union on the list this week and Bixby not, it raises a few questions in my mind. Bixby has terrible luck with making the list or even the Next 10. Hoping to see them make an appearance on the list later this season if they continue to modify and perfect their show.
Last comment is kind of a spicy take, but I think it’s about time to see Mustang make an appearance in the Next 10 if not the Top 33. They are killing it this year, and I really do think they are being underestimated. The GN lineup is insane, but I think they are not completely out of the discussion. I could be way off, but they seem significantly better to me this year than in the past. St. Louis will be a decent indicator, but I hope to see them recognized for their performance level in the ensuing weeks.

Bixby is always a kind of unexpected group that escalates quite quickly come the late season. I am excited to see their show this year because they are always creative. I will agree that with what I have heard about their show, and what I have seen of Mustang’s, that neither were on this list. I understand why not, though, as there aren’t any super widely circulated videos of either yet (at least that I have seen!). Oklahoma is looking really competitive this year and OBA is going to be and interesting fight for top 5. I think we would all be surprised if BA isn’t first place, but after that it appears to be very close thus far.

I could definitely see them getting top half at Indy this year

BA will almost certainly take 1st, but it seems like 2nd-6th could really be any configuration and I wouldn't be surprised. It's still early season, but my thoughts as of right now are: 1. BA 2. Jenks 3. Owasso 4. Bixby 5. Mustang 6. Union Edit: I'll make a 6A OBA thread to not take away from this week's ranking discussions

The only thing that makes me go Hmm is Cedar Park and Rouse. Cedar park jumps from 30 to 16. Ok, I can pretty much agree with that after I saw them at BOA Austin. However, Rouse beat both Cedar Park and Vista Ridge in the finals and had a 3rd place finish at BOA Austin. I would have placed them above Cedar Park. How much weight does the previous weeks rankings hold?

How much weight does the previous weeks rankings hold? Zero: 1. Reputable advisors submit their rankings every week. These are converted into a weighted number system and accounts for a portion of the overall rankings. 2. Scores and placements from BOA competitions with weight based on how recently the competition occurred, with finals scores and placements carrying slightly more weight than prelims scores and placements. Scores and placements from non-BOA events are taken into account, just not as much as those from BOA events. 3. Strength of schedule and notable competition such as Blue Springs beating four national finalists in 2013 at San Antonio carries more weight than American Fork three pointing and sweeping captions at St. George just about every year. 4. Notable caption placements such as Vandegrift winning the music caption in 2013 at San Antonio, Harrison placing 3rd in music GE in 2013 at Grand National Finals shows excellence against leading competition.

Just speculating here, but for some voters, Cedar Park's consistency and history of success as a program probably put them above Rouse, whose success is relatively recent.

Cedar Park also beat Rouse in prelims albeit by .50. I think Cedar Park and Rouse are essentially neck and neck here so having them side by side on the rankings makes sense to me. I think what gives Cedar Park the edge is exactly what you’re saying. We’ve seen Cedar Park move forwards strongly with this sort of early success but this is uncharted territory for Rouse.

I won’t be surprised if they find themselves in the Next 10 and easily in St. Louis finals.
