Haven't been on here in a while, thought I'd revive this thread. Here's a song that I think could work really well as a ballad if arranged correctly
I'm a huge fan of Elliott's work, hopefully some of you are too

I don’t know if anyone has done this piece yet in a show but “Symphony No 2: October” by Shostakovich would blow anyones mind.

I completely missed this thread and started another so I'll post my suggestion here. I know Spirit did it a few years back but I'd love to see more takes on it.

Not sure if it would ever happen, but I think with the right group and the right arrangement, Static Electricity by King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard would make for a pretty sick closer

The music is fun, but what I really want is the footwork (suspender work too):

Maybe Edit: Gods and Goddesses. 2008. Probably one of my top 2 or 3 favorites from them. I actually liked it much more than Botanika, might be taken down for that alone Apollo - God of the Sun (Mahler Symphony No. 7 Mvt. 4) Dionysus - God of Revelry (Schmitt, Dionysiaques) Hermes - God of Motion (Prokofiev, Symphony No. 5 in B-Flat Major Op. 100:II Allegro) Eros & Aphrodite - God and Goddess of Love (Beethoven Symphony No. 7, Mvt. 2) Zeus - King of the God's (October, Shostakovich) I agree with you though. The middle 3 have gotten a lot of use in BOA, the Shostakovich and Mahler pieces have not. They're absolutely majestic masterpieces though and can be picked up by anyone

I think Pruit Igoe and Prophecies by Philip Glass would make an amazing preshow like basically every Philip Glass piece does. There are probably a couple other pieces from Koyaanisqatsi that could work too but I don't feel like watching that whole thing, too artsy for even me.
I'd like to see this done sometime, even if John Mackey is overplayed
Bass clarinet heavy rock is something a little more interesting that I think could work with very niche shows
It'd take a hell of a woodwind section but
I think this could make a very nice waltz type ballad
I think this could work well with a very artsy and choreography based band like Blue Springs or O'Fallon
I think Sensemaya (orchestral and choral renditions) and Rite of Spring would go nice together, they share a lot common motifs and I think they would compliment each other if both were played in an "edgy" show.
I know we've heard Moment I Said It by Imogene Heap and Into a Virtual World by Amin Bhatia before but, they were both amazing and I'd prefer to hear them again rather than Lux Arumque or Hymn of Axciom

It literally just came out acouple days ago but… [Trinity by Snarky Puppy] would be a phenomenal song To have displayed in a show, like a part 2 before a ballad That’d be awesome

We need to hear more Polyphia on the field.
I know New Braunfels is doing “LIT” and I think there was another group mentioned on here doing a Polyphia tune, but my God, that group makes some good music.

I am surprised to not see a show that has the song, Ain't no Mountain High Enough by AUST and Loren Nine. I know Lumberton is playing it in their show but I have not heard any other group play it. I think it would go great with a bunch of show themes.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me.

There are these things called Google, Spotify and YouTube, Dan! Being at an advanced age is no excuse to not know how to do a little research. 😉

Being at an advanced age is no excuse to not know how to do a little research. 😉 If we have to use Google, Spotify, or YouTube to identify an artist or group maybe they're not that big a deal. They’re definitely a niche group. Doesn’t mean they’re not a big deal or insanely talented, nor does that mean someone shouldn’t want to hear more of them, or other lesser known artists, on the field. By your logic, if you aren’t on mainstream radio or a household name, even with questionable talent levels, you’re not a big deal. Bluecoats, for example, literally created their 2014-2018 identity off of music not many people had heard of. Music that may not have been considered a “big deal.” It was quite successful for them. Apologies for my potentially ageist jokes previously, but I stand by my statement that it’s not hard to do a little research and expand one’s horizons a little bit. I’m also painfully aware that I can’t take a joke.

Isn't this about discovering new music opportunities for an activity that prides itself on creativity and originality? How many other groups have people in this thread discovered due to their exposure to them in the marching arts or even from suggestions within this very thread? For what it's worth, anybody here that follows DCI has likely already heard this particular piece. Spirit performed it as their opener in their crowd favorite "Knock" production.

I do apologize if my teasing was offensive to the “young folks” of the group. I actually do like a lot of obscure music myself and Leander is a prime example of a band that likes to use unique and perhaps lesser well known music in their shows. If it sounds good, the kids play it well and are enjoying playing it, I’m all for it!
